1060 entrants
14 remaining (7-handed)
Blinds 4000-8000 (400)
going to 6000-12000 (600) in 2 mins
Currently in 12th place with around $45k in chips.
Chip leader around 330k
In Big blind.
Action folds around to button who has been raising many pots (this player is 2nd in chips at the table behind chip leader, also at table), though have only played with this player for 20-30 mins.
On button, this player opens for $30k, I have A of hearts 7 of hearts.
What action do you undertake?
This is a low buy-in MTT where 1st place is around $1k and 9th about $80. -
Fold. Way too expensive for a medium soooted ace.

fold definetly... 2 reasons
1 you prolly have about 10-15 more hands before you are all in blind, I would hope for a better hand to go all in with or a better spot to push.
2 one of the biggest strengths you have as a short stck is the all in push. with 45k in chips you still have enough to make any of the other stacks to pick up a legitimate hand, and you will often have the whole table fold. I hate a play of calling with a mediocre hand that is at best prolly a 60/40, but there is a good chance you are domiated by a stronger ace or pocket higher that a seven. the all in is a little tricky as you want to try taking other short stacks blinds. If the bb is 12k a big stack might not need a huge hand to cal an extra 33k if he is already in for 12k.
So I would say no... I would prefer to be the one pushing if I have an un made hand.... -
What if the very next hand, in small blind, you are dealt 22, and the same original raiser from above makes it $30k, what then?

Folding is the right play here. As mindtrip says, as a short stack your most potent weapon is the fact you can go all in and force the big stacks to have a big hand to call you, allowing you the opportunity to double up a couple times and get back into the hunt. Therefore, you want to hold on to your chips until you have the position/situation to be the aggressor. When I'm debating on whether to call a raise and I'm sitting with Ace-trash suited late in a tourney, I ask myself if I'm willing to go broke with that hand.... almost always the answer is NOT. I don't want to lose the rest of my stack calling some big bet with Ace-trash and getting pot-committed, suited or not. But any Ace, certainly Ace-x suited, is good when you're M is down to 1 or 2 and you're faced with being blinded out. 2Slick

Push with the A7 suited. 7 handed this is a very good hand.
You are in 12th place ninth is only 80 bucks, you have to make your move. At this time you can't afford to wait for AA or KK, you will get blinded away. Unless you are satisfied with the 80 bucks you have to go for it here.
never let your M get blinded to 1 or 2. -
Easy fold. You never want to play a medium ace in this situation. If he has a pair or an ace, you're basically screwed. Its always better to be first in the pot with 3,9 than to come over a raise with a bad ace. The type of hand you are really looking for is something with options. a J,9 of hearts, or a 7,8s type of hand.
