Pryme72:???
55 players left. 10.5k for first.
I just moved to this table so no reads. Do we call everytime? Or should we just continue to abuse shorter stacks and slowly move towards the FT? Keep in mind the BB is only 30k and I have about 1 million. Villain is also technically in a steal spot.
EDIT: Results now posted on page 2. -
this. ppl show up with worse aces and KQ sometimes.
it's the 3r. don't fold ak to one raise -
Call. Thats prob the only answer your getting, so results?
-
Stuff like this just screams like pockets sixes or AJ. I'd most likely call without some sort of read.
-
I cant see myself folding here. I think villains range is just too wide. Worst your at is 50/50 while a lot of the time you could be dominating here!
-
Before posting results; does anybody argue that it isn't worth risking such a large stack on what most of the time will be a coinflip? Especially if we feel we have a skill advantage over most of the field?
Option 1:
Call. If we win we are one of the chip leaders and will more than likely secure a top 3 spot. But if we lose we are out with a gay payday when we had such a nice stack to continue playing postflop poker.
Option 2:
Fold AK SUITED preflop! This is playing a little safer because of the substantial money on the line. You get to continue playing a little postflop poker and pwning noobs gradually. -
no. the 3r is a huge crapshoout and blinds go up fast, if you win here use youre huge stack to put pressure on the smaller stacks who are trying to make the ft and rape the ft bubble
-
sfobv u called and lost to 22.

I was leaning towards folding with the idea that really you don't want to race here.
For those who said call, can we get some ranges? What % of the time does this guy need to have pockets to make it a fold? (assuming if you could see his hand and it was pockets you would fold)
Pockets 80-85% of the time would be my cutoff. Rather keep my million chips and keep playing.
Some/all of those who said call are better than me so I'd like to hear more. -
lol @ option 1. I don't care how big an edge you think you have on field you aren't locking up a top3 finish. If this were the case you wouldn't be asking whether is a call or fold because you would have to be a complete moron to fold.
-
I'm leaning towards a fold. I know the structure has gotten pretty quick recently in the 3r now that they have 10 minute levels, but in my experiences late in the 3r there are a number of players that are ripe for the picking that can really be taken advantage of.
Sure this is a great spot to chip up, but you're likely racing or a fair amount of the time crushed. There is a small chance he has AJ or KQ or something, but I think its very very slight.
Also, there is no way in hell you lock up a top 3 finish with 55 players left by winning this hand.
fwiw, i've finished in the top 20 of the 3r 7 times with 3 wins. -
Yeah I guess the top 3 spot wouldn't be secured but it would definitely be A LOT closer within reach. I guess that's kinda what I was going for heh

Thanks for the opinions so far! -
I'll go ahead and post results for those interested.
When in that spot my instincts told me to make the call. I play to win outright everytime and I knew winning this pot would bring me so much closer to that goal. However, the result had me trippin' a little bit.

As usual, Chad Batista with the spot-on advice. In hindsight I think I should've folded. -
lol at anyone folding this. This structure is terrible, these players are terrible. You have a 1M chip stack. 35bbs-ish? i can see folding for a 50bb+. If his 99 is face up I call. If I see the flop and his 99 I call (we flopped a flush draw for those of you too lazy to read the results). This partic tourney has a terrible structure, so only in this situation I think its a terrible fold.
-
when are you ever crushed here, this is ak, aq, aj jj> 99%of the time, I think this decision depends alot on your table. If i am running over the table with little resistance then I will probably fold, but if you are getting played back at call and win a flip.

im snap getting it in. even though it is a 3r and people sometimes overjam there aa kk, his range is just so heavilly weighted to like 88-jj and ak aq type hands i cant see folding here. especially since the structure is so fast and bad in this cant pass up this spot ever.
i cant imagine chad being serious. if this was a tourny like the wednesday 300 on stars with 20 min levels and extra levels AND we were deeper i would fold. but in this tourney we will be under 20bbs in like 10 minutes. yeah were flipping here so often but there is plenty o dead money in there and also if we win this we are STACKED and can really abuse the rest of the stacks at our table. people nit up sooooo much deep in these low buy ins, if we win the flip we can straight up abuse the tournament
