1. I urge everyone to join us on Thursday, June 15th in writingCongress to express our outrage and opposition to this bill and alllike it.

The process will be very quick andpainless. For those who doubt it's effectiveness, having seenfirst hand the inner workings of a congressional office I can tell youthey are received and counted. You may feel your voice will not beheard, but as a community we can raise the volume to a level thatcannot be ignored. I have already traded several e-mails with my localCongressman Jim Cooper (D-TN) and he actually sent me a non-automatedresponse. Believe it or not, when constituents speak up, electedofficials do listen.

Spread the word, let's beat this thing!
2. Whoever wrote that editorial piece did a damn fine job, that is great writing!
3. Way to be persistent Lenny! We need all poker players to be as strong willed as you are about this. If we are passive and silent, playing online poker from your own home will be illegal.

Get those letters written! I know some guys, like myself procrastinate. If you have to ask a wife, girlfriend, brother or sister, get your letter to Congress drafted. You can re-write it, sign it, and send it mail or email June 15th.

Don't Dawg This Guys & Gals !
4. just out of curiousity....when did we become a communist country? We're now being dictated to what we can and cannot do for a living....how much money we're allowed to make and what we can do on our free time. Our government is out of control. At some point the american people are going to take a stand against this.

5. is there a form letter we can all use?
6. On Thursday the 15th we will have a form letter, provided by www.pokerplayersalliance.org that you will be able to send to your own Representatitive, and Seneators with a few easy clicks.

In addidtion to that, if you want to Call or Write your Reps. please do so. The main idea is to get a large wave of protest on the one day so it makes the biggest impact possible.

We would love to have more time to prepare for this campaign, but the House of Representatives could literally act on this legislation at any time, so this is an EMERGENCY CALL to the Online Poker Community to take action this Thursday.

Read the letter we are sending

7. f*ck the government. f*cking pigs. thieves. etc. What are the odds this nonsense will pass/happen?
8. I was typing this as a response to a Private Message I received, (questioning whether this was the first step towards regulation of an industry in need of it) but it is wayyyy, too long, so I'll post it here:

If you read the text of the Goodlatte bill you will see that this is no step towards regulation, it is an out and out attack on gambling in gerneral and poker in particlular as Destructive and sinfull. It's pretty scary actually. There are far more reasonable bills and propositions out there that are proposing regulation, this has no intention to protect the consumer, but rather to CRIMINALIZE the individual, which is unprecedented as far as the Wire Act or any other legislation of this type goes.

Initially the US casinos were supporting ways to limit US access to offshore gambling because they see it as competition, but now I believe Harrah's and MGM (or two BIGGIES) have come out against the bans and in favor of study and regulation leading to legalisation for the domestic gaming industry to have access to the online market.

http://www.pokernews.com/news/2006/5...tion-study.htm

We do have allies in Congress who think this is ridiculous and a complete overreaction to the minor probles online gaming presents. Just refer back to Rep. Barney Frank who was as outraged as I am at the paternalistic and invasive tack that the Goodlatte bill and similar legislation takes on this issue.

9. The harder we fight against it, the lower the odds....

Just imagine, if you could send enough e-mails to pokerstars you would reduce the number of times you got rivered (please do not send e-mails to pokerstars asking not to be rivered), that's what Congress is like, and this bill is one GIANT BAD BEAT if it were to pass!!

It's an election year so the House of Representatives in particular is scrambling to get re-elected, so they are more responsive than usual. If we get 10,000+ e-mails and phone calls on Thursday, I gurantee you we will have an impact. I'd like to say we'll get 100,000 or a million, but we have to start somewhere.

Let's shut Goodlatte, Leach, Kyle (and those who want to dictate what we can do with our own time and money) DOWN!!

10. Pretty shocking that this bill is about more government intrusion then less, and one of it's major theme's is a lie-terrorism and poker-just a blatant bold face lie. They know it and they continue to propogate the lie! How do you make this also a morality bill when in enacting the bill you keep telling a bold face lie-way to go on the morality high road!

The other shocking issue is that the right thing to do is to allow American casino's to have online poker and to catch up to the Internet Revolution, but instead we do the exact opposite and will stay light years and large revenues (companies and government taxes) behind other countries that have embraced the new technology era.

I truly understand why Pilgrim's had witchhunts on this land-after being dunked in the water, if they came up from the water dead, they were not a witch. This bill seems to really take the ole pilgrim approach, as opposed to really getting their arms around what needs to be done as we move forward on the Internet!

It's amazing that this bill is sponsored by the party of Reagan-obv these people have totally forgot his message!
11. Thank you guys for making everyone aware of this. This bill is not only important to poker, but important to keeping our government from swelling like it has been. We are supposedly a country of freedom, yet in this modern era it seems as if there is a new bill every day compromising our freedoms and privacy. This issue should not be taken lightly.

12. "That government is best which governs the least, because its people discipline themselves." – Thomas Jefferson

Don't hate on me, but...

I'm a republican and a lot of my close friends are republicans and we are ALL poker players on one level or another. What sickens me about this law is it goes against every republican philosophy or teaching. The above qoute by Thomas Jefferson is EXACTLY what the founding principle of the republican party WAS supposed to be about. We are, in philosophy, the party that supports states rights and LESS government. So what happened?

Well, besides the obvious of these good for nothing legislators and their "lobbyists." The party in general has a crisis in dealing with the Jerry Falwell/Pat Roberts faction so called the "Cristian Coalition." You know, the same people who said that we DESERVED the hurricanes and the 9/11 attacks due to our sinful ways. These are the same people who in one breathe will condemn gambling such as poker, blackjack and basically anything online, but will praise the work the state lotteries and horse tracks are doing for the country. See, and this isn't another poker player who is bashing christianity because I AM A CHRISTIAN. The real problem is that gambling at it's base has nothing to do with christianity, but it's percieved as sin because of the things that can surround it, if peoples lifestyles get out of control. After much research, I have to tell you....IT'S NOT A SIN. Try to find a true clear cut passage in the ENTIRE Bible and you will come up with ZERO proof that it is.

The other problem is then, okay, it's not a sin, well...IT MUST HELP THE TERRORISTS!! Ummm, sorry John, but no. The thing they fail to grasp is how closely monitored these sites are already WITHOUT being regulated in the USA. How often, espeically lately, have we heard reports of people getting caught with multiple accounts, colussion, etc. and then being completely BANNED from their favorite sites? I don't know about you, but it seems a lot. So what is our basic conclusion about that argument? One word. P-R-O-P-A-G-A-N-D-A. When you're bill doesn't look like it will pass, OH, say it will help stop terrorists. It's just downright sad.

In conclusion, I apologize for the generalizations. I don't have time to write my book on the failings of the "new" republican party. I am also going to go on record and apologize for those republicans that forget to do their research and are supporting this bill on blind faith alone. It's the only thing that I can see them doing to support this garbage bill. It disgusts me that these people claim to have the same beliefs and principles that I hold dear and are trashing the very fabric of what the Republican party USED to stand for. It's WE THE PEOPLE, right? Well, the number of people who are FOR internet poker compared to those who are COMPLETELY AGAINST it is huge. Goodlatte and the republican party need to wake up. They need to do us all a favor and remember where they came from and what being a "republican" is supposed to mean. If not, form another party because us republicans with a brain are sick of you ruining our reputations. thank you for your time.

Gl all and God bless:)

13. Great post, Tenor Time.

I am a Christian minister and a Republican, and you are dead right about both the current state of our party in Congress (particularly the Senate) and also about what the bible says about gambling.

I'm sure you are aware how Judas' replacement was appointed - by drawing lots. That's right, they gambled to decide the 12th apostle in the book of Acts.
14. Great job writing this up Lenny. Great job Dan on the Press Release and organizing this with the PPA.

I want to urge everyone to tell ALL of their friends who are remotely interested in Poker, or for that matter maintaining personal freedoms, to come to the site this Thursday, June 15th, and send a quick letter to their Congressmen.

You can send our templated email or compose one yourself. Either way, just send something, and let's do it all on the same day to increase the impact as much as possible.

15. say this bill gets passed... wouldnt there be a huuuuuuugggeee flock of people into the casino's after online is banned. I dont know if this is a good or bad thing for casino's but im sure the lines for a table would be outrageous.

16. Another response to a PM, regarding whether the bill would criminilize the individual bettor.

I was not 100% sure of that, but the language of the bill is very aggressive, and the implications for seizing of funds is certainly dire for the individual bettor.

17. Not necessarily, I think the convenience of online gaming has brought millions of people to Poker that would not otherwise have ever stepped into a public cardroom.

If you're worried about the casinos backing this bill, I doubt it. They want a piece of the action, not a blanket ban. Read the article from Pokernews about the American Gaming Association's stance on the issue.

18. To me this bill is about 1 of 2 things:

1. A politician looking to make a name for himself; or

2. A politician looking to impose his religious/moral beliefs on the masses.

Either way, I have no use for him, anyone like him, or his bill.
19. I am so frustrated with our government trying to control what we do. I am a dual citizen of England and the United States, and may be forced to go to England if our government does not start leaving us alone.
20. Response to a PM regarding E-bay's involvement:

I too am annoyed at E-bay's support for this ban, but I rarely use E-bay anyway (once I think), and my much bigger concern is the legal battle.

If anyone wants to let E-bay know your disapproval of their policy, please do but I don't think we'll be hosting a dedicated campaign directed at them.

My feelings towards e-bay= annoyed

My feelings towards the Internet Gaming Prohibition act = outraged

21. I was talking to one of my friends who works in Congress as an intern, and he said phone calls are much more effective.

Does someone on here want to aggregate a list of numbers, and we can all hack away at these Republicans?

23. Absolutely, CALL CALL CALL your Congressional Reps! This is a huge step too. We are hosting a quick easy way to do, but for those of you who are as fired up as I am, pick up the phone and call on Thursday as well! The Poker Players Alliance contact your reps tool also has phone info, easily searchable:

24. Nice write up! I am a socialist; I am NOT a "libertarian". And even I THINK this ban is a ridiculous infringement on personal liberty (of course, even us socialists still value personal liberty, we just think it is ONE VERY IMPORTANT value among several very important values).

Move to Canada! Long Live Freedom!

(in 2011 the next issue: the nutri sweet lobby will convince congress to PROHIBIT the evil white powder, SUGAR, for all of your health concerns, for family and as a way to fight terrorism. If you're a patriot and if you love your family then you'll agree its in your own good...)

25. I think we're missing the most important group of people to get the word out to, our fellow poker players. It would be worthwhile, at least a few times a day, to let the people we see daily on the poker tables know what's gong on. It's highly likely that the majority of people are not aware of the fact that the government is attempting to get this passed. I personally had no clue until after I joined the P5s community. These are the people who are most likely to jump at the attempt to stop the ban on their hobby/profession, and these are the people we see more than anyone.
26. Lets spread the word out and make waves. EVERYONE DO THIS!!!!!!!
27. just noticed that did you? the problem is how politics is conducted. $ is the key, in other words we need to get the $ OUT OF POLITICS. It is an all pervasive drug more adictive than heroin that controls the elections by giving the advantage to corporate yes men who have the money. the lobbyists get their way and the politicos get their $.the government intrudes into too many of our daily lives and choices as if they know better than we do.this gambling ban is the same ...there is no money being given to the government so the ban is effected. all the indian and regular gov sanctioned casinos are ok because they pay for the right to be ok because some stuffed shirt says they are.make the payoff get the deal simple as that.
28. Thats a good call Scary - telling everyone at your poker tables to join the cause in way that they can may be the most effective thing we can do.

29. Thank You to all at P5s admin who have taken up this serious issue and are trying to make a difference.

As a lifelong rebublican voter and volunteer, I am disgusted that my own Senator-Turncoat Kyl (R) AZ has taken a lead role in the Senate in this matter. I certainly remember the days when the (R)s stood for less Government intrusion in our lives.

I will be sending a letter to my Congressman--and my Senators Kyl and McCain letting them know for the first time in my life I will be seriously considering voting for the Democratic Party candidates if they continue to push ridiculous intrusions into our lives.
30. Lenny I just reposted your letter on myspace.com I posted it in the 2 biggest poker groups in myspace and in a few others I also sent a bulletin out to all my friends. I urge all of the P5ers if you have a account like myspace or a web page to please do the same. And do it up untill the 15th. Alot of people in life always talk about making a change. There are people that talk and people that do. Me and lenny are people that act on what we talk about will you? If so join us Send out E-mails to all your friends get a answer from them, hit all the messege boards POST POST and POST!!!! Let all Join togeather and have a voice a loud voice!!!!!

Dont talk about It DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
