I was playing in the stars $11 NLHE tourney last night (9:15 PM EST start time). We were down to about 35 players and I’m UTG +2 with K10 suited. The blinds are $5k/$10k at this point and I have $70k. 2 folds to me, so I push. I get called by the guy two to my left who has about $150k. I assume I’m in trouble since it was a marginal push. He shows 9s. I catch a K on the flop and the rest of the cards are blanks. I’m up to $150k! The guy then starts ripping in to me. Calling me a lucky donk and some other things in Spanish that I don’t think are very nice. I never really responded to him, instead just letting him stew. But I thought about how the hand played out and realized he was full of crap. I was the one who pushed! He called my all-in. I realize K10 suited is a marginal hand, but I pushed hoping to steal, but also hoping if I did get called it would be a race, which it was. Now if I had simply raised to $25k and he pushed me all-in and THEN I called, I can see his beef, but that is not what happened. He lost a race, which you must realize can happen when you call with 9s. I had 2 overcards and I hit. It happens. BTW, I went on to finish 4th in the tourney, so I must be an EXTREMELY lucky donk.
So my question is, did I deserve the abuse or was this guy just out of line and tilting? -
The internet is some serious business.

you had 7 BBs...roughly an M of what--3?

You should be shoving damn near ATC...aka he was out of line and tilting. -
These are spots that I wonder about too. I mean you have 7 BBs...Do you think you will get a better hand than K10 suited in the next 4 hands? Once the blinds pass you are down to 50K and no fold equity on your all in...depending on the other stack sizes. I don't think its bad, but I'd love to hear what some more successful players say.

KsTs (70,000) blinds 5K/10K since you are short stacked; this is auto-ship 7bb's.

Screw the guy that calls with [99]. You played [KsTs] perfect in this situation.
Take the abuse as a badge of Honor. You deserved the chips because you made the +EV shove with a good hand.
KTs is 62:38 favorite versus random hand
KTs vs 99 is 48:52 flip.
If he turn his cards [99] face up before you take any action; you still ship it in for the price to double up PFTW -
Shove all day while high fiving your monitor. This guy must have been playing with the last of his life savings to get so upset about nothing I guess.

i got called a lucky donk twice yesterday in some sit n gos. First hand: Q6 on the big blind with 3.5 big blind stack I called and beat AT. Second hand: cutoff jammed in 5bb i was button and isoed with KT and beat his A3.
Point: make a note on people who berate you for standard plays because they are clearly idiots -
I was in a sng yesterday and had just lost a pretty big pot. Blinds were 100/200 and I had like 900 chips. I was on the button with 78 suited and nobody opened. I shoved and the bb called with Q 5 and went on and on about me being a fish. Guess I'm supposed to wait for aces with 41/2 bbs left. You did nothing wrong. Take his chips and let him bitch about it.

I'd be more concerned as to how assuming this is a non turbo u allowed yourself to get to 7bbs or an m of 3, seems like u should have found some spot earlier. Yeah this hand is fine though.

i got berated the other day. after getting it in on 2 10 J 10, with A10, against 22 and spiking a J on the river. i then proceeded to get it all in on 10109 flop with AA vs KK for 250bb pot. K spiked turn, and the guy i previously beat went on for the rest of my duration in the tourn about how i donked away the chips i had donked from him.

People who berate are generally losing players who are frustrated by said losing
20.5bbs is actually prolly too much to shove 78 ;)Originally Posted by Jmill88

basically anytime your opening is OK........ calling ranges are open to flameage,

i flame donks all the time, but its always because they air call off thier stack with ace rags then they spike an ace. -

It was only 4.5 bbs. I would def not be shoving 20 bbs with 78 in a sng. -
Who cares about the abuse, you played it right.. Let him think you played it wrong.. Its rarely a good player that will berate in chat and the ones that are good that are berating are doing it to either put you on tilt or are just wasting energy..
Also, if you raise to 25k and then fold to his 3 bet, this is horribad (for 2 reasons, shove should be your best option and you can't fold once there is that much already in the pot).. -
nh, wp. Don't worry about the abuse, its pretty standard imo.
-
Let the bugger cry all he likes-you made an absolutely necessary play, and should have a shoving range far wider than this better than average hand.
-
Cut the caller some slack. For all we know, he could be stuck down in that cave until after Christmas.
-
bro don't even worry about it. i'm not ranked or anything but i'm definitely a winning player ($60 to over $50k past two years)... i've been called everything from "piece of filth" to "fucking slut" (i'm a guy, what the fuck?).
grains of salt, that shit is so meaningless -
I never get berated at the tables but yesterday it happened to me and I was laughing about it. Im in the BB.. UTG+1 limps in with less than 10 bb, folded around and I checked. I have J8.. flop comes down JJ8. I check and villian shoves and I call.. he shows J7 and I knock him out.
He ended up calling me a fucking idiot and I said, "dude, lol you limped in with J7 and you had under 10 bb and all I did was check and flopped the nuts". -
If your not getting called names you are prolly doing something wrong =). Dont sweat what others think and if it REALLY was that bad you would know it 100%
-
Did you OPR the guy? I'd be willing to bet my roll that he's never been even semi-deep in any tourney if he's that upset about you shoving KTs w/ 7BBs and winning a race. Losing player....make a note....hope to see him soon again....

I usually just kill them with kindness. Sometimes I even make a friend outta them after. Plus I think the poker gods like it when I say nice things at the table.

Edited By: qjuice14 Sep 18th, 2010 at 09:17 AMYou do not deserve abuse and I think his call is marginal, depending on the stacks. I know that stack sizes have nothing to do with the equity of Q5 vs. your range, but in sngs the chips you lose are more valuable than the chips you stand to win so the bigger the blinds get (up to a point) the worse the call becomes.Originally Posted by Jmill88

That being said, I do not believe you should be shoving 78 in this spot. I would prefer you having 7.5+bb's. With only 4.5bb's, you have no FE so you're going to need more showdon value. -
Edited By: Jmill88 Sep 18th, 2010 at 01:56 PMyeah, I see your point. There were only four of us left though, and the blinds were coming quick. I was hoping for a coin flip and couldn't ask for much better than a call with Q 5.Originally Posted by qjuice14

If this is for me, then maybe I do need some insight. I think I actually had like 835 chips. blinds are 100/200. How long can I wait? Honest opinions from guys who play sngs.Originally Posted by random.chu
the fact that you think that finishing 4th proves that you're not a donk shows that you're probably less clued on than you think.
I just checked and maybe it was a little light. Guess I was steaming from losing the big hand.Originally Posted by Jmill88
