Villian has been seeing a lot of hands of late and original raise may just be a steal from the cutoff. My goal was to make the raise look weak, in hopes of a shove. Obviously it's hard for him to get away from A-10 or an overpair here, but in the long run is a flat call more profitable?

  2. Hard to say. We really don't know what the villian had. As you said, he could have been on a pure steal preflop. Even if he had a little something (say A-7), it isn't looking that good now.

Now you reraised him. If he has nothing, even if your stealing and he knows your stealing, he has a heck of a time calling or pushing here (since, by pushing, he's giving you nice pot odds to call).

Odds are though, if he missed (most likely here), he isn' firing out on the turn anyway. Sure, if he has an ace, and it hits, you might get some action, but, it's hard to say By mearly calling preflop and on the flop, you may have already sent him enough information that it's time to bail.

Just because you get a big hand doesn't mean you'll get paid on it. Still, at least you didn't give him odds to runner runner you here.
  3. depends if he has the tendancy to fire more than one shell. I like the raise on flop cause like you said if overpair or A 10 hes prob getting his $ in. Besides, since ur OOP, if u check the turn, hes prob checking behind u than folding to a river bet. I dont see to much value in getting sneaky IMO. If you were IP, much dif story
  4. I dont think you have the stack to be calling here OOP to begin with

On the flop I believe a small lead would be better and look weaker than a checkraise..that way you can induce him to raise you and you can either shove with a lot of money in the middle or smooth call, check the turn, then get it all in on the turn
  5. I think on this hand Flat calling the flop bet is a better play...The board is not that dangerous being 56T rainbow, and its pretty unlikely he has 78 or 34 the only hands you would be scared of outdrawing you. If the villan has been playing agro I would just let him bluff some more chips off to you. If the board was like JT5 will 2 spades or something, i think raising would be the best play. Just look at flop texture, and dont slowplay draw heavy flops.
  6. Kind of what I was thinking. Ideally, I wanted to see a low flop, or a 5 with a King or an Ace. I figured by smooth calling the flop and checking the turn, he's only betting if he hits, and there's always the dreaded runner-runner that I let him see for free. Even if I check the turn and he does behind, he's not likely to call a value bet on the river.

  7. fold pre> call, esp oop +ur stack

  8. I know calling OOP here isn't the most popular play in the world, but I like it in my case.

    1) I'm in for 100, and it's only costing me 500 more. I can check fold any scary flop and still have 26 BB's before the ante level. I've heard pros say that you shouldn't set mine for more than 12% of your stack. I just barely fall in the safe zone.

    2) If I get a favorable flop I can stop and go. (You'd be surprised by how many people in these $26 tournies insta call with A-K and A-Q on a 7-high flop)

    3) If a flop a set, I'm most likely going to win the pot.

    4) This was my 7th pocket pair and I guess a little part of me felt due :)

In retrospect, I really like the advice for a small lead on the flop. That still gives him the chance to bluff at it with two overs.

    Thanks for the replies guys!
