i've played quite a bit of 1/2 NL at the local charity games but never really played much cash online so just getting used to it. charity cash games are an entirely different monster. just wondering if theres any way i should ever be folding at the river...no read at all as this was his first or 2nd hand. and is there anything i should have done differently before this point?

As played I'd call. Maybe raise more on the flop.. Your inviting draws to come along. Probably not folding and pray to god he has 88 and not KQdd or something like that.

I would overlimp to ensure no one ISO's pre.
A min raise on the flop is definitely warranted.
GL in the future! (these games are cake :P) -
You only fold in this situation when you are playing within the Full Tilt Poker client.

thanks for the responses. any more help is greatly appreciated

Just for the record, AFink is the person you should be listening to here, not these other two worthless responses.
And yes, you have to call.
