I remember seeing some criticism in the past from reputable p5ers... do these guys still stick by their story? and what was it all about to begin with?

I'd say at this point its a well known fact that BigDog is an amazing player...
that being said he runs way too good against me.
sicko tho without a doubt -
He plays higher stakes than me so I don't get to play with him too much. In my limited experience with him he makes some pretty bad wreckless plays. That being said, he obviously knows something the rest of us don't and makes up for his supposed leaks in other areas. Congrats on the success bigdog
-
Yea he knows those "bad wreckless plays" aren't actually bad or wreckless, its just aggression that you dont understand and cant successfully implement in your own game. Puts people in tough spots that they dont see very often which is why he crushes kids. Ship the chips to the BigDog.

edit: btw, don't want it to come across like i'm flamming him. he's obv a better player than me. but yeah i see him make some pretty bad plays at time and no it's not just some third-level thinking that i don't understand -
Edited By: revieceD Oct 4th, 2010 at 09:52 PMI've seen him 4-bet T9s all in and crack AA( vs opponent that is very capable of light 3-betting ), looks pretty redic in a vacuum, 4 betting JJ/QQ all-in vs an aggro opponent doesn't look redic, but which hand is in better shape when your opponent rolls over AA? food for though!Originally Posted by MarleyGroup

ive seen pull off some ballsy bluffs in key spots, and some bold moves against opponents he has history with. Reckless abandon or calculated aggression???? you tell me. its a fine line and he walks it meticulously and the results speak for themselves basically.
oh and send a PM to DINHO from australia for his thoughts and feelings on how the bigdog continues to ruin his sundays. -
what it seems like is not many people are actually rolled for the mtts and or cash games they play.. so they are unable to implement the correct strategies with the finances of under rolled players for the higher stakes are at a distinct advantage.. quality player and again runs +ev vs. me but much respect

Ive seen him 4bet/call a Qhi flush draw on an Axx board preantes for like a million BBs. Don't care how much he's won, he's still a spewtard

I dunno, he looks like a pretty big guy....Who would sleep on him?

If any of yall get really good at mtts someday, you'll stop worrying about being "spewy" and just do whatever you feel like is gonna give you the best chance of winning. Theres a lil thing called gameflow, and when thought of properly you will see that hands cannot be viewed in a vacuum and that often times something that looks really bad on paper is in fact the optimal play. But hey, Im just sayyyin.
-
devil's advocate:
you can be really good at poker and still do suboptimal things from time to time -
maybe he doesnt allways play his A game.... I mean seeing bad moves of somebody here and there doesnt explain somebodys (A) game. Im sure there are some players who have seen me openshove atc or just make idiot calls with 75 or a naked ace when i was prob drunk or heavily tilted. So tough to evaluate somebodys game overall IMO....
Not saying im a player of bigdogs'calbur hell no, i have no idea, but anyway spewtard or not, you just need a whole bunch of luck in MTTs, I sometimes like the "gotta get lucky somewhere so wtf" attitude :)!!! -
There are definitely plays that are bad every single time, and can be viewed in a vacuum, although prolly not as many as we'd like to think.

HH please lol. Actually nm just had to respond because this comment made me lol. Guess I suck at poker look at the authorities that say so. But as long as im making more money then 99.9 percent of the mtt regs out there. Guess ill keep playing. Flame away :)
-
Lol...
FTOPS ME run with doubledave22 two or three series back.
Case closed.
The only person running farther ahead of expectation in the game at this time is Jason Mercier; and even then it's close. -
hes def really good, but everyone makes mistakes
bigdog also plays diff than a bunch of regs too, especially shoving ranges
my most notable is open shoving 26 BBs in MP pre ante
i wont post results, but i just dont think its optimal, but then again, everyone makes mistakes, and i for one am uber spewtard on most sunday nights so i wont fault him
but guys a beast and is killin it so grats and gl -
This is what I was gonna say...didn't know ppl slept on him. Does he like being slept on?
But seriously, I'd rather be a lucky spewtard than be sollid and not winning flips and crucial pots. Not saying he is one but I'm almost to the point of doing whatever brings the money in, even if it means being bad to my peers. -
just gonna throw it out there.. but coming from certain people I personally take being called a "spewtard" a compliment.. im just sayin.. for example take golf for instance.. when professionals are putting (which is 70% of their total score at times) they wont to error on missing their puts on the high side of the hole.. now correlate this mentality with a professional poker player error on the siding of being too aggressive.. its all relevant to an extent but just that was an interesting perspective..I mean who wants to be like Helmuth and blind out of shit.. not me.. aggression is rewarded and hell sometimes were not always right.. but thats life and poker.. hate it or love it its the game we play..
-
lol wat?
putting is 70% of ur score?
