I usually 4 table in sets. I have been even over the past 2 months but that is only roughly 350 or so SNGs. Do any of you math whiz's extrapolate anything I need to work on here?
  2. I think you're doing very well.

  3. what program are you using to compile those summaries?
  4. Start owning the bubble! Pushbots ownnnn!!! Your ITM looks solid, but could easily boost that ROI with more firsts.
  5. Yes, they mean something. Specifically, those stats indicate to me that you are playing JJ too aggressively. You limp too much with suited connectors.
  6. Lets see. You played poker for 127 hours and got paid $7.54 an hour. Not bad for an illegal alien, pretty shitty if you are a corporate lawyer.

From a mathematical perspective, you are doing okay when you cash, with equal probability of each position. But to show skill would need to have more firsts than second and more seconds than thirds. As it stands, your finishes ITM could simply be random.

Out of interest, do you know how much you have paid to the poker sites for that profit?
  7. Ahh you're skipping over some key facts here though.

For most people, it takes a lot of losing before they win money. If you stick to low stakes, you can keep that losing to a smaller amount than it would be if you jump straight into say $100 tourneys and lose for the first 6 months you play. Once you start to beat those games, you have added value, in addition to the money you make. That added value is, specifically, experience. When he starts playing higher limits, he will hopefully be good enough to either beat those games starting out or learn to beat them fairly quickly. In the meantime, he's making what some would consider a subpar wage, but he's also doing something he enjoys and learning a higher level of competance that can lead to future earnings.

If we judged everything on current value, no one would ever take unpaid internships. There's just more you can get out of something than "money right now."

  8. Adam has a good point. Be glad that you are winning, and you are trying to improve so your winnings will probably increase. If you really want to kill SNG's a few lessons or a training site membership would help. We do a lot of work with SNG's on my site at pokerfox.net.

It will also help to work with an ICM or with SNG Power Tools which is just a fancy hat on an ICM anyway. Read HOH 1, 2 and 3, Sklansky's Tournament Poker for Advanced Players, and Adam's SNG article here on pocketfives.

Get PokerTracker and track those games so that you have more specific stats to look at as well.
  9. Responses:

    1. These stats come from aleomagus's spreadsheet, which is awesome for SNG tracking. It imports right from pokertracker or you can type in results yourself.

    2. I am finally going to invest in SNGPT as I think my bubble play, while aggressive, is sub-optimal.

    3. I am currently a member of cardrunners as I have been transitioning to cash games more and more but I am so busy with school I don't spend enough time studying.

    4. I have read HOH 1 and 2, 3 is coming from FPPs soon hopefully as is NL Theory and Practice.

    5. I am going to throw my laptop in the river if this break even streak doesn't turn for the better soon.

    6. AA<Q8o on the bubble for chip lead.

    7. I got 4th in 7/10 tournaments at one point yesterday

    8. Thanks for your replies. I love poker.

    9. OBV I paid $653 to the site for that profit other than a couple of reload bonuses I took advantage of. Rake for these is $1/SNG.

    10. WTF? I hope you aren't a corporate lawyer either.

Karnagious, 52 games played, Ave. Profit $1, Ave Stake $3, Ave ROI 47%, Profit $50

  10. Own the learning curve
  11. - Multitable less. 9% roi could become 18-25%, and net you more per hour. 2 tables max. Maybe 3.

    - You aren't finishing ninth enough. Get more aggressive early with the goods. Be less afraid to overbet a great hand. I believe this is costing you the chips that are causing many of the fourth-sixth place finishes. Read epicatc's article on opening up earlier in sng's, it will benefit you. Seems that you might be too tight early.

    - Steal more blinds fourhanded.

    - Overall, you are winning and looking to improve, so I think you are on the right track.
  12. I'm sorry I have a really hard time believing that cutting the # of tables in half is going to double (or better) his ROI. These are 1) $16's b) TURBOs c) SnG's... in the words of Scott Fischman: BE THE ROBOT. Get SNGPT and learn the math down pat. After 700 of these you really should be a machine and there's really no way that just 2 more tables is killing his ROI. Unpossible.
  13. =)
  14. ive been quad-tabling 6.50$ turbos (9, 18, 45 man) for the past week and have netted a 400$ profit. (200 of which i lost playing high stakes limit :( ) . Now that my BR is at 250 im going to try a few 16$ to see how that goes...... if ever my BR goes below 200, i drop back down to 6.50$ sngs.

Here are my stats, maybe we can compare them to the above stats (although these stats are for 6.50$)

  17. Can someone hook me up with aleomagus's spreadsheet please??

    Thanks in advance.
  18. Cool, where did the stats come from? Does it say how long that is over? Have you been stalking me? Naughty. Not a bad ROI though eh? And you cant embarass me by pointing out the micro stakes I play at, so dont bother trying. I play to relax in the evenings and I dont measure my worth as a human being by my bankroll.

Anyway, my point about the lawyer thing was that your earnings are relative, that is all. I wasnt passing judgement.

My point about the ITM placings is valid. If you were to assume that placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd was completely random, over a larger enough sample size, lets say 253, the results will look almost exactly like yours. The expected finish is 5.5, so 4.3 is good. 3.9 would be money though.
  19. Here is a perfect example of variance and just what it can mean in my opinion. Below are my 6.50 turbo stats. The play at the 16s is noticeably better but not 5x better like my ROI difference.

  20. I know im riding the good side of variance right now. I dont mind :D

Although I am playing VERY aggressively on the bubble, which leads to many 4ths and many 1st where I win the tourney 4-way (for the 18mans). What I mean is that if I am CL and we are 1 to the money I will raise ANY 2 against medium stacks if there is a short stack that is folding his stack away trying to grind his way to the money. Sometimes they play so tight that they are all micro-stacks with me having about 2/3rds of the chips in play by the time it gets to the money. I win those tourneys on the bubble. Its sick, and I love it.
  21. So, after 216 tourneys at the 6.50 level you decided to move up? Im at 141 tourneys right now and im doing so well im tempted to move up. I tried 3 9man-16$ turbos today and got destroyed in all 3 :(
  22. wierd seeing the people i play with all the time. Sippin are your numbers really close to your shark scope?

I think there is a lot of room for imporvment. As you get comfortable again you'll get alittle more aggressive, which i think you need :/ I don't think you'll ever be able to get to your 6turbo ROI you listed below. But I think you will bring your ROI up atleast to 15-20% v soon. (Edward Norton pwns btw)
  23. Wrong you can EASILY play more than 3 turbos. These arent cashgames, not much thought is needed honestly. I play 5at a time, and i think i should be playing more
  24. Your bankroll is a bit low. "Protected" is 50 buy ins... $750. I mean buying in 5 sngs to play a session would leave you devestated...read Fox's Bankroll article from last year

(side note- Dental School was a good decision, good job!)
  25. I play 4 only cause I have a single laptop screen... i could probably play 8 turob 650s for a nice profit... its really straight up ABC poker . THey make all the mistakes and give you all their chips. You dont even have to work for them really :)
