Now I'm not gonna go out and say that I think I'm better than any micro stake player, but at times I feel its hard to give them credit for having a big hand most of the time. I find it hard to credit most of these players as "thinking" players. I think this might be a leak in my game. Do you micro players try to immediately try to identify the better people at the table with notes?
-
not usually but when you play with them long a few rounds you def figure out who's going to be playing tight and trying to move up. those you should give credit to.
-
Depends on a lot of factors. If the guy only raises AA, KK and QQ then if he raised pre you have to give him credit. It's not impossible for a micro non thinking player to pick up a hand you know....
Edit: I think it's more important to sit back at the start and watch the action to try to determine how each player thinks. Note how each player plays certain hands. Its not a good idea to label a player as bad or good. Just note how they play how they think so you can narrow their range better. -
I dont get it. In micros you play ABC poker. Super TAG poker. I dont really see how this is a problem
-
well obviously not everyone plays the same so that wouldn't work with every hand...
-
Give me a example of these "should i give credit" hands.
-
I tend to give everyone credit until I know better. But I do watch for people who play in obvious ways, and take advantage of that when I can. I think at the beginning of an MTT, about half of the micro players are pretty silly at how inept they are. By the time you get into the money, it's a lot easier to assume they're going to be playing more correctly.

Button has limped about everytime its been folded around to him. Theres some draws out there, but his play is odd. Do I give him credit for a bigger two pair? or maybe flatting the flop and catching a straight on the turn?

you just got outplayed thats all.
-
Looks like a good fold
-
wait arent you a micro player??
-
yes I just wanted opinions of other players at this level. When they sit down at SNG's and MTT's.
-
i play micro and i think i think im a thinking player
-
the micro stakes players are much easier to identify....calling stations, tight, loose, ect... as far as thinking goes, not much, and for the record its hard to play a normal thinking game against them too as at times you will fold to much value.
-
If the line makes sense then yes give credit because micro players are rarely semi bluffing, running multi street bluffs, etc.
Assume everyone sucks until proven otherwise, cause most people do suck. -
This is closer to what I'm getting at, I feel at these levels I find myself thinking to much and many times folding a better hand
-
All players "think". I mean seriously how many straight up droolers do you run into in a $5 tournament? and before you answer that, think back to 2004 when half of the field was just smashing buttons. I think a more appropriate term these days would be unimaginative or lazy. but I get what you are saying.

I play micros and most players are at least aware of basic starting hand requirements, are somewhat positionally aware, and have some idea about push/fold ranges. Are there people out there thinking on multiple levels and taking creative lines in order to get you to fold? Probably not! But even if there are, they are in the minority. so why worry about it. Just treat the whole feild as level 1 for the first hour or two and you should be fine after that I leave OPR open and adjust my read based on volume and type of games played.
If dude plays 40 4.40 180 mans/day, then it should be pretty clear where he is as a player. Similarly, If dude plays 4 MTT tournaments/month then it is a safe guess where he is as a player. After that it is just about applying what you know about these types of players based on thier volume and putting that together with the information you've been getting from the game you've been playing.
