  1. thechemist83 and I were talking on AIM about a hand involving a board of 10-10-9-9

[17:18] thechemist83: so only hands that beats me would be Tx, 9x obv
[17:18] thechemist83: and i'd call not putting him on that from his preflop flat call AND his flop flat call
[17:18] All In At 420: u keep ruling quads out
    [17:18] thechemist83: i don't rule it out
    [17:18] thechemist83: i said Tx or 9x
    [17:18] thechemist83: that includes TT and 99
[17:18] All In At 420: lolololoololololol
[17:18] thechemist83: but highly unlikely obviously
[17:18] All In At 420: no it does not lol x = airball
    [17:18] thechemist83: heh
[17:18] All In At 420: this is not algebra
[17:18] All In At 420: lol
    [17:18] thechemist83: x = anything
    [17:18] thechemist83: it's a variable
    [17:18] thechemist83: lol
    [17:19] All In At 420: poker x = airball
    [17:19] thechemist83: ok
    [17:19] All In At 420: algebra x = anything
    [17:19] thechemist83: Tx, 9x, TT, 99
    [17:19] thechemist83: better?
    [17:19] thechemist83: lol
[17:19] All In At 420: that's def an interesting argument tho
[17:19] All In At 420: i almost wanna create a P5s post and see what ppl say
[17:19] thechemist83: in my math oriented brain, i view it as x=any card

Dumb question barely worthy of a post, but thoughts?
  2. Beh, when I hear 9x I'm thinking 9 7 or 98 or something.

You don't say Ax for AA.

Agree with x = airball in poker.

But I can see where he's coming from.

Imo screw this algebra shit and go balla and change it to calc. integrate the 9x and solve for the range of 2-9.

  3. I'm a math guy and agree with thechemist

    x = variable

Sure most of the time you say TT, or AA instead of Ax, but you'd also say AK instead of Ax if that's the hand in question. x just covers every card relating to the one you're talking about.

  4. lol stonerments

  5. ^^^^^^i'm obv voting that "lol stonerments" clearly means that Alex sides with me. screw u mhoddi, back to 2-1 me.

  6. [17:19] All In At 420: poker x = airball
    [17:19] thechemist83: ok
    [17:19] All In At 420: algebra x = anything

i do agree w/ this part btw

    srsly tho, pass the J

  7. seems to me it meant the exact opposite and was siding with me... can we get a judge's ruling please?

  8. I would say in poker x = airball..when typing in a hand you type KJx the x refers to a card that is rather meaningless and has no bearing on the hand (aka airball)

  9. General poker discussion... Tx or 9x does not equal TT or 99 ever.

In the context of this hand, where "You're only beat by Tx and 9x," IMO it includes quads since I'm assuming we have a hand like AA and we're only beat by Tx or 9x... true statement, but it includes quads in this context of the board.

I abstain from the voting who's right because both are imo. We have to know the exact question before answering. Either, "In this situation, does Tx or 9x include quads?" Or, "In general, does Tx or 9x = TT or 99 sometimes?"

  10. I agree with thechemist x in this conversation equals anything

  11. whoever passes the J i agree with...im truly a math whore and i have to say in poker x = doo doo. Agreed that Tx or 9x never equals TT or 99. X may be a variable, but for poker reasonings it always means doo doo

  12. x def = air
  13. matt is getting greens on this one

  14. In poker x = airball, imo. However, if you're not beating Tx or 9x in this hand it doesn't matter much that you're not beating quads either.

Like I said to Matt, this is probably the most pedantic argument I have ever seen, though that will likely change if I go to law school in the fall.

  15. lol @ Ax possibly meaning AA

  16. x def means airball.... fuck poker.

  17. lol @ this thread getting more than 5 ppl to respond

  18. i always assumed x meant "card that means nothing to situation"
  19. 10x 9x includes, (1010 or 99) 910, 109.........it really should be 10x 9y then it could be 1010, 99, 109, 910

    right?

  20. agree

  21. [17:18] thechemist83: so only hands that beats me would be Tx, 9x obv
[17:18] thechemist83: and i'd call not putting him on that

if you think that 9x and Tx can = 99/TT, then how can you group these hands into a range, saying you "cant put them on 9x" for example, if youre going by the chemist's argument you would group 99 and 92 together.

this is why for poker reasons, the x is used to denote a brick, not just any card.
