I've seen plenty of the threads mentioning how terrible it is/would be to ever muck KK preflop, especially considering this +cEV situation. However, at what point do you have to rule out all the hypothetical bs, and just listen to your instinct if it seems that apparent and is actually -EV? Well, I did...so either im the nittiest of all nits, or I made a great laydown and hopefully we'll find out.

Dynamics:

The villain is Ramux, and for those of you that aren't Bodog regulars, he is on the looser aggressive side most of the time (I know it already sounds contradicting, but wait to judge). I respect his play/game/image a lot and have played a ton of hands w/ him. He is a very deceptive player, and is highly capable of making this move imo.

So here are my thoughts:

1. Out of all the hands I've played w/ him ( prob. 1000s), I have NEVER seen him limp...ever...let alone from UTG!

2. He knows most of my tendencies and in this spot has to recognize that i'm not raising his limp lite (esp. bc he has 30bbs).

3. With our prior history, his 3bet is SCREAMING shove (2.2x?)...he even typed in the chat "just fold already" while I was tanking which could be a tell?

4. I haven't invested that many chips into the pot, and if I do just flat call here (im sure many would recommend at least to have done that), I can only hope to flop gin based on my read. Even then, I still might 2nd guess myself out of mucking it based on the flop texture (if i missed) and if checked!

5. My instinct told me immediately after he "limped" that he had AA.

Alright, well either I'll look really dumb here and Ramux will post a HH showing T9s or some sht (that could highly likely still be the case lol), or he did in fact have AA. I'm willing to take that risk. I should also note that there is a slim possibility he could have also had KK, but I doubt it.

Does anyone agree with this thought process?

I can see OP's angle in that villain might be limping a premium hand the way this went down, that said, even if only AKo+, JJ+ is in his range it's a call imo

I can easily see Ramux switching gears here. Obv the right thing to do is to flat, see a flop and go from there or push back... obv can't do this if u put him on AA after the vilian re-pops. That being said, AIB is still chip leader, he has a decent FT, still full, and has some decent players all around him. Folding pre isnt the worst thing in the world. He's getting away fromt the hand cheap as hell and still has plenty of amo to keep playing. If he wins the hand we know the mtt isnt over and there is no guarentee he's at least getting HU. But if he loses the hand to AA, his gut feeling, he's one of the shorter stacks and has a big hill to climb. More often then not folding here is bad but he's getting away so dam cheap against one of the oldest plays in the book (i'm just guessing). Any way SICK lay down and respect it 100%. Just never do it again =). PS, I was a spelling bee champ when I was 20 years old against 1st graders.

okay, so if he's a good enough player, he might notice all these hands he's been playing with you. a lot of times when I'm playing cash with regs, they'll know my tendencies and try to exploit them, so i use the knowledge that they know my tendencies to my advantage. i.e. they realize i don't call 3-bets without a good hand, so every once in a while, i 4-bet air, because i know they'll see that as a huge hand. pretty simple stuff, sure, but this is a situation where that could be happening.

but let's say you are nearly positive he has aces. you've hacked into stars and you see his hole cards. i think, correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you still should flat call that. you're calling 16k to win 145k, so you have 9 to 1 implied odds. odds of flopping a set are 7.5 to 1, and he's stacking off every time if he really does have aces. he also might fold scary flops like q-j-10 and others similar.

if you can isolate his range to A-A, you have a really big advantage. you see his cards, save the suit, so you can predict all his next moves. folding, while... heroic, is bad imo

I'm against folding KK preflop, but, I think doing it 1/1000 time is ok if you have only one instinct. I folded KK preflop once live, but that was to one of my closest friends, and b/c i knew his tendencies like the back of my hand i knew he had it. So, i'd say if you went with your read and folded KK, kudos....

got to agree with just about everything boon siad. You have a good size CL and if you are going to get away from the hand you might as well do it now when it cost you all of 3 BB.

It looks like a very solid table, so any spewage would be bad here as most of those guys are pretty competent.

That said, although I don't think yo ureally have the right implied odds to mine, it's not the worst thing in the world to pony up and call teh re-raise for another 16k. That's not a major dent in your stack at all. And you will have position on the hand.

I don't know how he likes to play flops OOP, but assuming he has AA he might well check to you. If so, you are now likely going to get to see the 4th card free as well.

Also, like lefty said, if he's as shifty as you think, it could easily be a metagame limp of anything. I've noticed lately that UTG raises from me are getting a lot more calls than limps, especially late. So he could be double-reverse deeking you out.

Somebody track that dude down and have him explain what he was doing already... ;)

I def don't intend to make this a habit...obv the first and prob only time I'll ever fold KK preflop...appreciate the optimistic response though fwiw!

sup guysssss well i dont know how to post the hh here but I wanna say this first. I personally think me limping represents anything and in this case could be aces. Like most of you may know 99 % of the field on bodog are donkeysssssssssssssss. most players on bodog bet on sport and donk off sport winnings into poker tourneys and cash games as well. When i limped first it was a mistake because at a ft people will be really suspicios about it, so i meant to raise but i dint, then allinblind raised it on the button, at this point i dont know who raised cause im playing 5 tourneys so i only raised cause i thought it was somebody else. But it was mister allinblind hahahaha, suck to say it i had AA i was gonna just flat but i wasnt paying attention so i raised it and after i did so i realized it wasnt a donk. damnnn nice fold sir....tell me how to post the hh and ill show u i had AA.....glglgl

You can fold KK pre when you're like 200+ bb deep in some spots. But with 30BB this has got to be the worst hero laydown I've ever seen.

Now I know this sounds like a newbish thing to say but how the hell do you people call this terrible? So if he plays it big and loses a bunch he would be a better player? That makes no sense at all. He made the correct read and played accordingly. If anything, I'd say he made an amazingly great play but definately not a bad one.

He saved himself from losing even more...therefore it was a good play. Losing it all would not make it a better play. If you are happy losing all your chips from making "commonly accepted" plays...feel free. But DO NOT tell the person making more than you that they make bad plays.

Would obv love to see it considering the flamage ive gotten for creating this post. For the majority of responses, I understand how terrible it is to muck here, but I still believe you have to trust your instincts over logic in tough spots regardless of how ridiculous your decision might seem...

although i don't think you fold KK there, you should be reassured that (if he had aces) he played his hand far worse than you did; he couldn't even get KK to stack off

BTW: I once folded AA pre, because there was so much action that I was sure some1 was gonna hit a set, flush or str8. I ended up being right, since a guy with 7-8 dd flopped the str8 flush.
