  1. Probably too late, but what the hell, I had 10 minutes to kill.

    Dr. Frist:

Following the events of today, I have gone from a staunch conservative to embarrasment over the state of the party I have held an allegiance to for years. You are as much a hypocrite as the idiots in the left. Who are you that I need your "protection" from "the danger of gambling?" This ridiculous bill (that you had to sneak in like a snake) will attempt to ruin the evergrowing popularity of poker and a poker community in the United Sates that has been growing exponentially in recent years. The whole notion of being a Republican is to lessen government involvement in people's personal lives. I consider myself the "everyday American." I have yet to meet ONE person who ever voiced concern over online poker. It is a mystery who you trying to appease here. Mr. Frist, you have become the embodiment of Ellsworth Toohey-all power, no "talent."

People all over the world are playing poker, talking about poker, etc....poker players are a huge community numbering in the tens of millions in the US alone. No other country feels the need to baby their citizens this way. In fact, the growth of poker in in other countries can only be described as astonishing and I can think of no other thing so engrained in American tradition that is so accepted in countries abroad.

The fact remains that poker is a game of skill, not chance (this im sure you know because I refuse to believe that you dont sit down on occasion to play a hand, like millions of people do everyday.) I am sure you have heard the stories that President Nixon financed his first run for public office with the poker winnings he amassed in the military and regularly held poker games while president. Your hyprocracy only comes to light more when, for some inexplicable reason, the Act makes exemptions for lottery and horceracing, PURE WAGERS OF CHANCE.

I suspect you know, however, that the chances of online poker being completely eradicated are very slim. Somone will find a loophole somewhere, and we in the poker community will continue to to what we want, not out of obstinance but the basic need to be free to do whatever the hell pleases us at any given moment as long as noone gets hurt in the process.

So while I know you must be fretting over the fact that your dear colleague has been caught trying to solicit sex from a sixteen year old boy, please keep in mind that you have alienated this voter and millions like me.
  2. This is beautiful. Very well done. I'd die for writing skills like yours.
  3. Amen, it's never too late to tell him he's a douche. Vote Libertarian!
  4. This is beautiful. Very well done. I'd die for writing skills like yours.
  5. not a bad letter but i do have one problem with it..."The whole notion of being a Republican is to lessen government involvement in people's personal lives." this is not true at all. republicans do not want government involved in businesses and the economy. they are notorious for limiting personal rights like gay marriage bans and television censorship for example. democrats are the ones who want less government involment in personal rights issues.
  6. Very good point bumhobo, was about to make the same. Dare I mention Pro Choice.
  7. dont even get me started

    lol
  8. Your writing skills suck.
  9. First off, you might consider addressing this to "Senator Frist"

    sorry,
    tc
  11. i think the proper way is the honorable senator frist
  12. this is just sick how the republicans can justify their thought process behind this, my dad raised me republican and in the recent years, i have become as far away as possible from anything he and other republicans believe in, i dont understand how they feel they are responsible for "saving" people from gambling, its their hard earned money, let them do what they want, im in shock...

    fuck frist

  13. I wish I could say I am surprised by these reponses but im not.. Every thread on this site seems to denegrate into some childish pissing match, Not that it matters, Senator Frist is a doctor. Anyway, keep discussing how he should be addressed, its really important.

  16. Ronald Reagan is spinning in his grave

  17. "democrats are the ones who want less government involment in personal rights issues". (what planet r u from???)

    SAVE THE BABY WHALES
    KILL THE BABY HUMANS

This statement is patently false, TRUE conservatives such as Barry Goldwater were against banning gay's in the military (gay marriage was not an issue then but it is almost certain he would have been against a gay marriage ban), he was pro-choice, and wholeheartedly a Libertarian. Please read Conscience of a Conservative written by Barry Goldwater, this is basically the bible for modern Conservative politics, and it shows just how far the Religious Right has gone away from the root principles of Conservative politics. What you described in your post sir is not Conservatism, but rather the bastardized 3rd cousin of it, which was bred by some hillbilly religious nutjob, in the mold of some antiquated Puritanical minister.
  21. I don't know if i've mentioned this before, but VOTE LIBERTARIAN. limited goverment in all aspects- which is exactly what us degenerate gamblers want anyway.
  22. I will be the first to say my vote will not hinge on this issue

  23. That is the point rp. Today's Republicans are not even close to Barry Goldwater's vision for the Republican party. Party's agenda's change over time. Today's Republican Party's agenda is not for less government. It is for more religion in government and limiting personal rights. So no that statement is not false. He did not say what conservatives believe in , but what Republicans believe in, which you basically admitted is true today.
  24. Don't worry Shaaarrrp, I think you can find something else to make you not vote republican. Shouldnt be too hard...
  25. The whole notion of being a Republican is to lessen government involvement in people's personal lives.

    kjhgfdrghjklhgfvdegfhjjkm looooooooooool...

if by "people's personal lives" you mean "big business" then yaaaa maybe.

"The whole notion of being a Republican is to lessen government involvement in people's personal lives."

I know this has already been commented on but I just can't pass on it. If this is what you've been led to believe about the Grand Ol' party, you've been sadly misinformed. The Republican party wants nothing more than to get more involved in the personal lives of American citizens. They're pro-life, anti-gay, and recent opposition to stem-cell research are less than mild examples of their desire to limit our personal choices. Their strong christian conservative backing would leave them if they didn't take hard line stances on such issues.

That all being said, none of these views are as disconcerting to me as supporting/engineering such a misguided war as we are presently in. Instead of spending the hundreds of billions we have to essential blow up a lot of concrete, we could have built better schools, given money to first responders, feed the poor, or just plain pay of the deficit... oops.

  28. Apparently you are libertarian and didnt even know it.

    Rank tucker carlson.
  29. "Kll baby humans"?? WTF I would like to see you teach an aborted fetus how to walk.

You are anti abortion, but I'm sure you support sending husbands, fathers, wives, and mothers with established lives to Iraq to be killed in a hopeless war.
  30. "The whole notion of being a Republican is to lessen government involvement in people's personal lives."

You are all taking this the wrong way. The OP is talking about what Republicans and conservatives USED TO STAND FOR. He is using this to point out that they have strayed AWAY from those values, and are now intrusive in people's personal lives.

Conservatives like Barry Goldwater where pro-choice, and didn't mind gay people at all. Their philosophy was limited governement, which is what I happen to believe in. Most democrats today believe much of what true conservatives believe in... it's just a shame that the republican party (the "conservative" party... what a joke) had to go to shit over some extremist views and straying from what I believe the conservative party should be.
