All former players, petition to paradise to get this private tournament back again. It is quite unfortunate that it no longer is running. Encino is very loyal to paradise poker and wants to keep the tournament there.
There have been some of the best players online that played this tournament. Great competition and great challenge. i for one miss it.
NSXT2, please bring this up to paradise poker.
Some of the best paradise players around used to play this thing. I know a lot of you are p5'ers.
NSXT2
Budman
FNRIVER
Riverwalker
my3sons
This list goes on and on of people that have played.
Lets show Encino some support.
Thanks,
Schnerbs -
We shall all continue trying. NSXT2 has said he'd try ... but nothing so far.
Please Todd --- one more effort. What can be so bad about having an evening tournament with a $44 buy-in named Encino (or E44 or some such)? Doesn't need to be private (we all hated having to put in a password anyways.)
Oh well, Schnerbs, maybe we'll never be able to bring back the good old days... -
I' m with these guys Todd any help would be appreciated E is a great guy and he had a very nice little following, I hope they re consider.
CMAC8T2 -
Hey guys, Why did Paradise stop allowing these? And why won't they let them start up again? I never really had the bankroll back then to play these regularly, but would be very interested now. E44 seems like a very nice guy. Hope these get started up again.
clizzark -
I rarely got to play this as it was on a little too late for my English ass but when I did play in it, it was great fun.
With all of the positive changes paradise has made recently, this would be the icing on the cake!
Come on Todd!!! I'll buy you a David Hasslehoff chest wig if you get this sorted! -
Paradise committed great effort to improving their site this past year. They took on a strong advertising campaign and have increased traffic at least double. In doing so, they have felt they didn't want to be "burdened" with the hastle of dealing with private tournaments.
Well, actually we never really wanted them to be private anyway - the password was freely given out. -
paradise no longer has password protected tourneys for members. I am speaking with dise as I type this about Encino. Trying to make an exception. The David Hasslehoff chest got me motivated...... whatever the fuck that is.
One note, if it gets done, it can not be called Encino--has to be paradise name but no matter I hope. -
thanks Todd,
The fact that you are even making an effort is appreciated.
sincerely,
Schnerbs -
Compared to Des Moines, Encino IS paradise.
But, oh well. -
Bring it back, Great tourny. It should be on Paradise forever.
-
I played alot of encino tourneys and have not had as much fun since they went away. PLEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSEEEEE Paradise bring them back.
We have a loyal following and we all play alot on your site.
We also refer players based on the fact that we like your site.
Don't turn us off or we might turn you off
freitag -
Thanks for all the kind words, folks - maybe we'll get "our" game back!
Here's the last thing I sent to Paradise on the subject:
<<Dear promotions,
The players of my former private game continue to ask me if Paradise is ever going to bring back my $44 "encino 44" game, so I am again asking you. Is there some way you could please add a $44 entry fee game to the regular schedule, one with 15 minute levels?
You don't need to call it the "Encino 44" - perhaps something more in line with the other game names. I think "Shark Tank" would be a great name for it. That was sort of an unofficial nickname for it, anyway.
The name alone would warn newcomers that this was a game with experienced players. It would be a great game for many of Paradise's best and most experienced players to compete against one another and for the new players to have a shot at taking out some of Paradise's legends. I would even consider supplying a logo with the "44" being formed by the dorsal fins of two sharks. Shouldn't be much of a stretch :)
I believe the best time slot for this tourney would be concurrent with Coral. It would allow most of my former players to play and as long as it was a $44 buy-in with 15 minute levels, they would still know it was "their" game, and I'm sure they would play it just as regularly as they did the original.
Based on prior games that accidentally played without passwords (which had around 70 players over a year ago) I think you could easily be looking at over 200 players per game, for $8800 in the daily pool, dwarfing the previous game. I doubt it will take away from other tourneys much, as many of the players have gone over to other sites (but have sworn to me they will come back and play this game if I can get it going again) Why not try it and see? You could even win back some players!
Thanks for your consideration.
Encino Mann>> -
...is not important to me. If you guys think Paradise might like the "Shark Tank" name better, tell 'em!
As far as not being able to name it after a player, there's still DKBlue. 'nuff said. They can do it if they want to. If they don't, well I guess we're just wasting server space!
Thanks again, y'all - much appreciated!
E -
I Agree with you all, the Encino 44 was where I began playing Texas Holdem. I was new to the game and always felt at home in this tournament. BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think the name or password matter, we just want to have it back on the schedule so we can again play our FAVORITE little home game against skilled competition.
Todd use your juice card and get it back on the schedule with any name....Thanks
Keep at it guys and gals and we may win this war.
Thanks

I was just reading about the "Triple Crown" and took a look at my records to see how close I may have gotten recently. Damn... Check out the days around 1-22:

Missed it by a nose on both ends. Ugh. Maybe I can get an honorable mention, considering I had TWO qualifying wins on the same day? Also, I defy ANYONE to win that crazy freakin' Riptide game two weeks in a row - I don't care if it IS only two bucks. It's almost as bad as a damned freeroll! Ok, so they WERE on Christmas Eve & New Year's Eve & I didn't get home early enough either of those nights to take advantage of the drunks in the earlier games, but hey - a win's a win!
If anyone cares, my lifetime net on Paradise is now north of $25K, going back to my first game there on 12/30/03 :)

A couple of things here:
1. Those are sick, sick numbers. Well Done.
2. Not to take anything away, but TC has to be done on 3 different sites, I think.
3. Did you mean 250K ?, as it looks like you've made over 40k last 2 months.
again, sweet numbers.
clizzark -
I agree with all of you. I have been dedicated to paradise poker for over two years now. If we have to take the game to another site I will follow the the group and stop using Paradise. I play in all the big tourneys as well as many large cash games. I know one person doesn' make a difference to them, but if we all leave it may.
I know "the foxx" "gatorstyle" "Double*D are with us on this. They all said they would be willing to relocate to play in the E tourney again.

1) Thanks, clizz! I was almost sick by the end of that noon-to-1:05 am marathon on Jan 22, but it was sooooo worth it! :)
2) I could have sworn it was any combination of 3 wins in games with 10k+ pools on the list of sites they cover in any 7-day period, but now I can't find the link back.
3) 250K? I WISH! Didn't you notice how few "day games" were on that list ;) Here's how my Paradise results break down:
'03 - was up 2k in the two days I played, mainly because I got 4th of 1122 in the 20K (now the 80K) on New Year's Eve in the first online multi I ever played. It finished just before midnight, giving me time to walk to the liquor store for a bottle of champagne ;) and it paid $1,991 on a $30 buy-in (no re-buys back then). Hooked for life.
'04 - lost 7K
'05 - won 4K, mainly because of my 2nd place in the 100K back on 3-4-05, which was my biggest prize to date ($14,583).
'06 - net + 27K so far. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile, maybe even 6 or 7 :)
All my best,
E -
I am glad this thread got rolling.
70 more days till i am off work for 6 months to study. A nice present during my 6 months off would be to have a nighly tournament so i can study for my CA exam (CPA equivalent to you Americans) and take a nice nighly break.
The best thing for me about Encino tournaments was proving to myself that i could play with the big boys. I am a 24 year old student/worker who does not have the time to commit to poker like a lot of other players. I have been playing for 8 years, my first 6 there was no such thing as a poker boom. i was every opponents dream, i played rarely, had no conception of pot odds, always overbet big hands, just checked when i didn't hit, bluffed at dead pots etc. When the poker boom started, I was unemployed, put $50 into paradise poker and built myself a nice bankroll playing continous 10 single table tournaments. The book that changed my game was Helmuth's book playing poker like the pros (sad but true)
I eventually started trying my luck at multi's and made a nice chunk of change finishing 8th in the sunday 100K guaranteed. I moved up levels and found the Encino 44 private tournament. I got to play against the best that paradise has to offer and i did quite nicely for myself.
Encino tournaments will always have a special place in my heart. Guy is a classy dude and i got to make some friends online. I am not a pro like sheets, bax, gank etc. I don't sit around and railbird them and pretend to be their friend. I respect them and like reading their posts. Encino gave me the opportunity to make online friends. I have since lost touch with almost all of them. Good group of people. lets keep this tournament alive in some form or another.
thanks for listening,
Schnerbs -
Out of curiosity....does anyone know what the private tournaments they currently have on Paradise are for? Are they Paradise's sponsors' events? like the JBM Poker tournament that is going on right now...the Daily $75...the PokerForumCA...NDNPT....GF League...chipsahoy. For a site that doesn't have private tournaments, they have a lot of them on the schedule.
-
I wondered the same thing OnPo1nt. Also, I wonder how much of a burden pivate tourneys could really be when you have one of the top sites like pokerstars with all their traffic allows them, and some of the lower traffic sites like Absolute that allow them. A powerhouse like Paradise should have no trouble I would think allowing private tourneys. IMO
clizzark -
The 44 was yet another great reason for me to stay up until stupid hours of the morning - would be fantastic to see it back up again and you knows it i'm gonna be there soon as PP get something sorted!
pity the password system can't be kept up - would keep some of the riff raff (murderer for example! ;o) ) out of the game! heh heh heh!
Spaggy. -
A really nice thing about the E44 tournaments was the statistic keeping that Encino Mann did. I mention this so that all the pocketfivers who might read this and are unaware of these tournaments might be able to appreciate.
The tournaments were called Encino44s not just because we had a $44 buy-in, but also we had 44 games to a "series". E kept stats of each game and accumulation for each series and overall across all series. (Terry's kind of a stat freak). And we always had an "All Star" game at the end of each series.
Originally e mailed results to all the players, but finally he got a web site up to track things:
http://www.ckatcorp.com/emann/encino.htm
There are links here to all sorts of stats and charts there. One I really like is:
http://www.ckatcorp.com/emann/overal...it_leaders.pdf
From these charts, you easily see all the terrific players that at one time or another played in these.
Another neat thing Terry added near the end is Prize Ties! WSOP has their bracelets, but Encino44 tournaments had Prize Ties. I have my 4 ties proudly displayed in my office here at work! (Danged if I'll wear one though. Thank goodness we don't wear suits and ties anymore these days.)
Fortunately, the best part of the tournaments was all the friends we made. It's always great to run into each other at the tables, or from the rail.
Bud -
I need Encino back up.
the last 2 rounds i played brutal and fell to 22nd in overall profit.
