  1. I thought I'd bring this information to your attention.

A recent EU court ruling (bwin v State of Portugal if you wish to take a look) has allowed countries like Portugal to retain their gambling monopolies. This means that citizens from Portugal cannot access online bookmakers or gambling agencies, instead they are forced to use the state-run supplier (this is also the case in Germany, Greece, Norway and to some extent France).Without the competition of other suppliers, the prices for consumers across the industry go up. The precedent this ruling could easily be used in the future to target poker players too! There's a petition at http://www.right2bet.net/ trying to address this situation. It's in all our interests to keep the markets open and prices down!

  2. Yep, it's like that in Norway. Only norwegian bookmaker is Norsk-Tipping a government owned company. It sucks. But Norway hasnt blocked the access to other bookmakers online yet. But these bookmakers arent allowed to show commercials on TV.

My fear is that they in the future they will block the access to pokerclients, bookmakers, etc.
  3. I dont think this could ever happen in the UK, we have many big bookmakers/sports betting companies like betfair, ladbrokes and William Hill, no one entity is greater than the other and they all run poker sites, the only bookie that doesn't is totesport and they are fairly big so in the UK we are atleast safe for a few more years but you never know what will happen in the future.
