  1. Beginner here.

I haven't played online for a long time, as i used to play horrible and tilt like crazy, so i refused to deposit again after losing "my limit".

However recently i've been left with a lot of spare time so i've deposited on Full Tilt again to have a bit of fun and try and win a little bit of money. However, i just seem to be either playing bad, or getting unlucky (which of course happens to us all). I'm wondering, is it worth playing recreationally at all?

    scratch cards

I really can't afford to lose too much money, but i can't even break even right now, it sucks. I'm pretty sure my problem is tournaments, i like to think i'm good at tournament poker (for a beginner at least) but i don't think i have the bankroll for it, i'm just losing money.

Since depositing $10, i worked that up to about $20 in ring games then came second in a $1+0.10 rush rebuy for $60. I withdrew it all except for $10 as i really didn't want to lose my money again, but now i've lost that $10

Should i deposit again and try and win a bit of money, give up completely? or something else...?

I'm guessing you're going to tell me to stop playing MTTs but i really enjoy them and i can't afford to put in $100+ to have a decent bankroll for them

  2. don't give up. just build up your roll again and don't cash out unless you absolutely have to.

  3. imo you shouldnt be gambling if you CANT afford it.
  4. How are you going to make $$ off of 10 dollars assuming you aren't Chris Ferguson? I think you should save up that 100 bucks and then when you can afford to lose it; stick it in your account and try and make some money. Until then...??
  5. Definetly don't cash out if you only have $60. It's too hard to build up again. Keep it in there and set a goal. Maybe something like $200-$500 and then maybe withdraw some if its necessary but, who knows, you might be rolling by then! Just make sure you practice good Bank Roll Management(BRM).

By the way, I think you can do it with $10!

  6. If you don't apply a correct BRM, you cannot avoid being broke one day or another... Even Gboro or Chris Ferguson can't so as said hereover, play a solid BRM according to the amount you have on the site and then if you play +EV you cannot be broke.
You need 50-100$ minimum to play the 1$ Rush.

  7. of course it can be a hobby. my other hobbie is playing golf and pool and I guarantee you that i spend shitloads more on that than poker and probs down around $2.5k over the last 3-4 years.

However considering I used to spend about $500 a month on roulette and racked up 6k at 1 stage on Credit cards, playing poker has saved my life! now I just play micro stakes, generally deposit about $50 a month and grind that for the whole month. money well spent considering I have great fun Im part of community. and u never know...1 lucky score and im running!
  8. whyd u withdraw that amount of money ! i mean u cant do anything with $60 except buying couples of beers and a Pizza ! shoulda saved it n put some time on it ~
  9. MTTilter. Cheapest hobby I have ever had.
  10. If you cash out 50$ from a 60$ BR I think you will lose alot of money in the long run. You will just keep depositing over and over like u said, so stop cashing out smallish amounts, because you know for sure it's going right back in.. It's all about experience, and it seems you understand that cashing out evrytime you get a BR is wrong. Either stop doing that or stop playing at all

  11. all things considered, poker is much less expensive than my other addiction - women
  12. When I see these type threads I immediately think the poster is 15 yrs old.
How can one only have $10 as a bankroll and ask if playing poker as a hobby can be done.
$10? sheesh. Get a job. Not sure if you have one.
Save up money for a few months and deposit atleast $100.
If your worried about winning $60 and withdraw $50 then the answer is NO!
  13. If you can afford to lose the money you deposit, it's all good and yes you should play. Poker is fun. It's supposed to be anyway hehe

But If you want to put yourself in a position to be a profitable player you should really try to keep a proper bankroll for your games. Save up enough to have 50-100 (I like to have 200x) your buy in. This will allow you to fight through the variance of poker, which is impossible to avoid.

And then, if you don't cut the 'proverbial mustard' and go bust. You at least put yourself in a position to be successful and likely got much more 'fun' out of it since your bankroll had a chance to fluctuate upward here and there.

And If you really don't like to redeposit over and over, you've got to find your niche in the poker world somehow. You said you played ring games and then went on to play in a rush tourney...

You might be a well rounded player and can change the way you play, but I'm figuring you are not (most of us aren't!) and you need to determine which arena you should be focusing on. Meaning sit'n'gos, or cash game, or tournament.

But, It sounds like you like the game and I don't suggest you quit.
  14. Im confused.. is this like a hidden brag or something?

you mention that you deposited 10 and got it up to 80 and withdrew 70. you lost the remaining 10, and then tell everyone that you are a losing player, cant break even, etc.. How many other times did you deposit?

From what you've told us, you have a 700% ROI?

its called variance. Dont deposit, win, then cashout and leave yourself no room in your BR for a downswing.
  15. i dont get your question and your first post.

if u play it as a hobby, its just like going to the movies or watching a soccer match. you pay for it, enjoy yourself and thats all.

if you cant afford however, you shouldnt be playing, but then again, its like going to the movies or watching a soccer match... if you cant afford buying the tickets, you just shouldnt go...

    its that simple!!!!!

if u want to make money out of it, then its a whole other business....

  16. Treat it as a hobby and dont care if you lose the small amount. dont cash out less than $100 in your roll you are just setting up for redeposit. Keep grinding tho and stop calling ten dollars a bankroll
  17. Just play the freeroll tournaments until you can save up a bankroll. You still get to play and work on your game all while not spending the money you can't afford to lose.

  19. Not sure if anyone has said this yet but if I were you I would play nothing but freerolls and try to build a small roll that way.
  20. You should not have cashed out at $60. Since you did, you can still consider that your BR, and deposit up to another $50 (assuming you don't need that money). I built my current four figure roll after my brother transferred me $50, so don't give up. Above all else, as others said, it's one of the only hobbies that pays you back now and then. So, as long as you're having fun, keep playing.
  21. if you can afford it and enjoy then just play. as long as ur not spending money you cant afford then you will be okay.

But if you view yourself as someone who would like to make some money playing this game probably best to build the roll up atleast over $200 until you start cashing out.

you would probably want to be rolled for $5 buyins just b/c you avoid the higher rake of $1-$3 games.
  22. def disagree with grinding freerolls for poker monies...end up with tons of bad habits when you move out of em
  23. the real question is how did you cashout on tilt so quickly? i'm assuming you already have your money?

but seriously if you can't afford to lose $10 then don't play. you said that you have a lot of spare time recently so maybe get a job? idk call me crazy but if I had lots of spare time and couldn't really afford to lose $10 playing online poker then I would go get a job.
  24. minimum wage (in canada at least) is like $10/hour... if you cant afford to deposit $10 then your cost of living must be ridiculously high, or you have no job. For the first case, maybe consider moving to a cheaper neighbourhood? For the second, just get a job. If you want poker to be a hobby you should also have a job. If you want poker to be a job where you make money, get a job first and save lots, then try learning from a training site or something.

  25. Have you ever thought how long it will take you?

  26. Poker is fun. If it stops being fun then why play? It doesn't matter if 10 dollars means a lot to you cause many ppl play way out of their bankroll. Grind all day every day if u enjoy it. Just don't let it prevent you from buying diapers for your kid, family first.
  27. op is so nice, you had to post it in two different poker forums.
