I have recently been feeling some strain in my eyes from playin online poker. Im guessing its from staring at a computer screen for a while. Anybody else go through something similar? Can anything serious happen like diminish eye sight?

yeah but so can reading books. thats why all those nerdy people wear glasses.

Lol...staring at a computer screen for hours and hours won't damage your eyes or decrease your eyesight...neither will sitting too close to the tv for that matter. People tend to blink less when they're looking at a computer screen, so make an effort to blink more so that your eyes don't dry out too much. If you're farsighted or nearsighted and aren't wearing your glasses, I'd suggest putting them on :)

I've noticed that my eyesight (once close to perfect) has diminished, especially since I started doing 10+ hour sessions. My eyes would feel dry and I was using Visine a lot, which apparently is a really bad idea as over-using that is enough to damage your eyes alone! Anyway, what I do is try to focus on something as far away as possible (I look out my window across the street) at least once an hour while playing...glglgl

Are you sure it won't affect eyesight?

My eyesight has gotten noticably worse over the last two years and I'm pretty sure my eye doctor said excessive computer screen was was the cause... He also said for every hour you look at the monitor you should look at something non illuminated for 5 minutes. -
Looking at something off in the distance every so often is a good way to relax your eyes (to avoid something called "accommodative spasm"). Also, while the old train of thought used to be that excessive near-work worsened your vision, current studies show that it's mostly due to genetics (ie: If your parents are nearsighted, you're more likely to be nearsighted). Looking at a computer screen all day may play a small role, but it may not be the only thing making your vision worse.

I like to keep my tables fairly large, sit pretty far away and turn the brightness waaaayyyy down.
