How about when you're 3 of 11 and go out 11th when you get coolered by the big stack AIPF KK < AA or something.
Big fun. -
well than you would finish 28th-50th and still complain

Thats why i really hate the payouts a lot for large MTTs, dont know why they dont change the payouts to reward the top 27 more and top 5 a lot less so it was not so top heavy.
Would make it more worthwhile for people who regularily make the top 3 tables but hardly ever finish 1st-3rd. -
hehehehe.

Nah man, that would be awful. If you are a winning player then this would just kill you ROI, simply have to put in the volume to consistently score big and it will become apparent why all the big money is 1st-3rd, 'cause when u hit it it makes up for all the BS that came before, imo.

But then again the cycle starts all over again and u have to wade through a bunch of bs to do it again. -
I agree to a certain extent....In a large field 1000+ they should take the top 2% and escalate the payouts more evenly..... It sucks when you get HU and your playing for the difference of what the guy in 4th/5th got! and most likely the variance at the FT is the highest. Twice at FT's ive flopped a nut flush only to have a runner runner FH beat me and finnish 5th and 6th...

Yeah, I know the feeling about a month ago I was super deep in the $2.75 micro tourney and I was second in chips with 35 to go. stars servers crashed so they paid out the remaining funds. They say it's the fair way to do things but as we all know it's not easy getting deep. As if.... okay I'll just do it again tomorrow. Hurt real bad.

work from 730am -5pm get home shower --get online-- 2$-8$ tourney starts at 6-8 ish -- play for ever get down to last 10-15 people- and -bust out at 130-2 am and make 30 bucks--- get back up in 5 hours do it again
i play cash now -
Evening the payouts among the final table, or rather final 6 or so, is A LOT diff then evening them over 27 players. I agree that in certain tournaments with poor blind structures for the end game, a more even final 6 payout would be reasonable.

This would actually help grinders overcome the final table variance you speak of, while not necessarily hurting their roi too much since the variance is so high their 1st-3rd place expectation is significantly lower, and especially their 1st place expectation, where as you say the jump is usually just huge compared to how many people both players just waded through.
Though obv no matter how high the variance is, the better players will still have an edge so therefore even this would should be a significant damper to them in the long run. Would just be a much longer long run then evening the payouts of last 27, lol. -
The first time I quit poker was when I got 11th in the 3 rebuy after having KK < 66 and then KK < AK and then shove Ax to go from CL to out in one orbit
