  1. I forgot to save the actual hand history, but I'll try to recreate it the best that I can. Here's the situation:

I'm in 10th out of 19 or 20 in a UB $30 tourney. I started this hand with about 22000 chips. The blinds are 800/1600, I'm on the button. It gets folded to me, and I'm holding Q 10 off. I raised to 4800, and the big blind, who has about 44000, ponders for a few seconds and comes over the top of me with a reraise of 4800 more.

I have no idea what to do here... I'll tell you what I did do, and that's call, and fold immediately after a flop of A 7 8 comes.

There was so much in the pot already, and so many chips that I had already committed to the pot with my steal attempt. I didn't really know what he was holding, since he was fairly new to the table. I figured that if I hit the flop hard, it's an automatic double up because a reraiser will almost always bet the flop hard. My question is, how do you all handle a hand situation like this. Keep in mind I'm playing to win this tournament, not get to the final table.

    Thanks
  2. That's a pretty easy fold for me. There are too many hands that the big blind would reraise with that have you beat, and there's no such thing as a safe flop unless you get lucky and flop the nuts. If you really do feel committed, you're better off pushing all-in. That'll get him off any hand he doesn't feel real comfortable with. I think folding and waiting for a better spot is a better idea though.
  3. I think in this instance, with you putting in just under 1/2 of your stack if you only call, you need to either push it in preflop, or fold it. By saying you wanted to hit the flop hard, you sound like you're not analyzing the whole situation. At this stage in a tournament, stealing from the button is commonplace. It's a great place to have a hand, because you won't get credit for one if you raise. The BB popping you back is his way of saying he's not going to take your stealing - and him being a big stack, maybe he's being a little aggressive to you and wants you to fold. I think if you're going to stay in this hand, push it in here. If not, drop it now, and wait for a time you're more confident putting it all in.

This isn't exactly my forte, however, so I am also very interested in what other players have to say in this instance - particularly players with more experience in their end-game (and just experience in general).
  4. easy fold

Calling is the last option. If i'm going to continue with the hand... i'm just going to push it all right there. His hand is either really strong, or he's just testing you out to see if he can resteal for the minimal price. Your hand isn't going to hit the flop hard very often... your only going to hit a q or t 1/3 of the time, still.... if you get any piece are you going to cal his all inl if you read him as strong?... these odds are hardly worth just calling half your stack with those blinds. His stop and go play is almost mandatory on any flop.. no matter what he is holding.

You need to fold here and just sacrifice 1/4 of your stack, still keeping you around 9bb right?, instead of being in pretty big trouble with 5-6bb. If i'm playing qt at all in that situation on the button, i'm just going to push it all, obviously hoping for a fold. You just can't count on button steals to work for 1/4 of your chips at this stage in the tourney, good players know what you are doing, and if they have you covered they WILL test you. He read you weak... I think he had a weak Ace at best
  5. What it comes down to is live cards. If you call with 10-Q and the flop comes 7-9-Q, are you really comfortable that you have the best hand if he leads out? No....even if the flop comes something like 10-Q-J, youre still not comfortable....your cards are not likly to be "live". Now, I fold here most of the time, however, if I WAS going to call here and try to win a big pot, I would be much more likly to do it with suited connectors, say 6-7. If I call here and hit a big flop, like 2 pair, a stright or a open-ended straight flush draw, I likley have the best hand. Probably 80% of the time I get reraised I fold. And its probably folded back when I reraise about 80% of the time.

    Hope this helped!!
