Most of us that play online know that Annette is a deserving champion, but what about the rest of the poker world?, I sat at a live table yesterday and the discussion of the day was The wsope ME. The non-online players who had no clue to how good a player A_15 is, seem to believe that if an 18 year old female can win a ME, coupled with the recent past wsop ME winners being amatuers, (and Jamie Gold is about as close to a girl as a man can get) that maybe poker is more of a game of luck than skill. One other guy and myself at that table, stuck up for her abilities, but we were the minority, and nothing we were going to say was going to change that. A couple of the bad players who I have never seen ITM or at a live FT in the card rooms were I play that are obv poor players, stated that they are going to stop playing MTT's if anyone can win on any given day, That its become a joke,
So is Annette going to start the downswing of poker with this historic win?, and will every wife, sister, and GF now want to play thinking that its also a female sport?, thus leading to us having to share our Bk roll, and computers with them?. I really cannot see any good becoming of this in the long run, every male poker players penis just shrunk a good inch because of A_15.
Why couldn't she just play with Barbies while growing up like all the other little girls?
Congrats A_15 on your awesome win !!!!!! -
i cant tell if ur serious or just really stupid
-
Its absolutely a good thing for poker, and I think that anyone who would suggest otherwise is asking for a flaming. Anyone that thinks that Annette is getting lucky needs to look no further than OPR, or the pokerDB or any other tracking site that will clearly show shes a bad ass...
People used to think Danica Patrick was bad for racing, but I think she has only helped the industry.
And if your penis shrunk an inch because a woman won WSOPE then your going to be in really bad shape in 10 years.......
Rob -
This is an absurd post.
Any and every winning player should WANT the masses to think that anyone can win a big tournament. If people didn't think that when moneymaker won poker would not be what it is today.
The fact that she's a female only helps. Nothing but positive things will come for the poker world due to her win. -
I would doubt that anyone would really stop playing MTTs because they felt it was purely luck, and if they did, i would be fairly sure that it would be a significant minority.
In no way is it possible that Annette's win can have a detrimental effect on poker. It is a fairytale story (even more of a fairytale for those who don't know how great a player she is).
Can it be as big as the Moneymaker boom? I would sincerely doubt it, but it can only help publicise the game and show that anyone - young/old male or female can win. -
I guess it depends on what your goals are.
I think anytime you know the truth and everyone else thinks something else, that's a good thing from a moneymaking side. If everyone thinks that an 18 year old "girl" winning means it's all luck, that's great. The ones that understand that it's a skill should have a field day.
Also, any man who knows anything about the game shouldn't have his penis shrink at all because of this. This is a skill game, being a man isn't a huge advantage to this. It's not a physical game at all, all people are equal. Would you feel like less of a man if someone in a wheel chair beat you? How about an 80 year old man?
Guess what, you can play Texas Holdem against a 5 year old, and that 5 year old can have a winning session on you.
Sometimes, posts like these really make me wonder. -
Uh....Wouldn't donkeys who have no skill want the game to be more about luck to give them the ability to "win on any given day" ? This is obviously why the moneymaker boom came up...If a no-name amateur can win 2.5 million, why can't any clueless donk?? If they think annette doesn't have game and that any lucky 18 year old girl can win millions, then it's going to have the opposite effect of what you are describing.
Annettes win was good for poker. I predict many new euro donks are going to come to the online seen in the next few months in the wake of her win....hopefully they don't all go to non-US only sites. -
My posts are full of Question marks, maybe I should edit it and make them all bold face ?
This is a Poker Discussion forum , I was discussing poker, those of you who are flaming are also discussing poker on a poker thread, in a poker discussion forum, wether you know you are or not.

Annette's win can only help prove that poker is mostly a game of skill. The WSOP ME is made up of 6,000-8,000 people with maybe %5-%10 being top pros, you have to get really lucky to outlast that field. The WSOP Europe ME was made up of 300+ top pros, to outlast that field you do have to get lucky, but you also have to be an amazing player.

4 yrs at most....>

This is awsome for poker, Just think how many women will be playing now...
-
The biggest, most obvious growth area in this market is from the females . They account for a fraction of the players worldwide currently. They are a growing demographic in this sport and now they have an idol like never before. Watch over the next couple years ( especially when Annette turns 21 ) as the population of female poker players explodes. Great for the game.
-
I recognise the sarcasm cigar...funny post. However, the only side of this that I can see being interpreted is bad is if you're looking at it from the standpoint of girls tend to be more adept in the skills that a solid poker player requires. I know in my 'advanced' math classes in school the girls all kicked our butts, in the realm of self control we men have way too much testosterone. Any woman with kids learns w/in 5 years how to see right through a bluff...and many know by the time they're 8 how to bluff/misdirect better than most men will in a lifetime.
Now, on the up side is the fish who come to the tables...and from a live standpoint the improvement of the scenery. That, and the overall betterment of the game, which we all love and have a passion about. The game will get better, and healthier thanks to this win and her wins that follow. -
anyone who cant fathom that a women can compete with a man at a poker table is ignorent.
the onlything that holds women back when it comes to poker is experience and numbers not as many women play as men.when that becomes more even women winning tourneys will become common place.
And I think she will be a great champion she carries herself very well we need more poker players like her imo. -
Yeah I think the only effect it may have is on females playing the game. If the FT gets shown a lot and people really get to hear about it, then we might get a load of new female players.
But otherwise, why should it have much of an effect at all? She's no Moneymaker. She's not some broke accountant who got extremely lucky and somehow manged to turn $40 into $2.5m. She's a top online player who has built a bankroll, put in the graft, the hours and determination, etc to achieve a dream.
BelowAbove winning the WPT didn't suddenly create a new 'Moneymaker Effect'. Cos most people know he's not just some 'internet donk' who got lucky. He's put in the work to get to where he is. And apart from being a girl, Annette_15's win isn't really different.
What I mean is, to your average Joe (or Joanne) thinking about getting into poker for the first time, stories like 'internet sensation, well known pro in the online world, wins first major live tournament' just doesn't have anything like the same effect as 'completely unknown broke accountant turns $40 into $2.5m.'
It's the dream that matters. And the dream is to turn nothing into something, with apparently little effort. Not graft for years building a bankroll, working your way up through the limits, before eventually progressing to the live arena.
That's why I don't think internet sensations taking down live tourneys will really affect things, certainly not nearly as much as Moneymaker. -
I believe that Annette's win is terriffic for poker. Her win helps solidify the power of pro players in big tournaments to those of us who know her or know of her, yet it also will bring new blood to the game too. For people who have no idea how skilled she is at poker will be thinking "oh, if an 18 year old girl can win $2,000,000 in a tournament, why can't I? How good can she be?" Of course we will know that they are wrong, but isn't a big edge for pros in tournaments all the dead money from the hopeless players (mine included)?
The way how I see it is the more people playing the game, the better it is for all of us.
Annette, if you happen to read this, congrats on the win. For all that you've done for the poker community, no one deserved it more. -
my only comment to this is some guys are very stupid... and just because they dont know any intelligent women doesnt mean they dont exsist
my girlfriend plays poker in alot of local games that i play in and she is regularly the best or one of the best in the room... she could probably do very well online if she cared to play
women are very good players... so if a woman wins and it starts a downswing i'd be kind of surprised.. just a couple retards shouldnt make a big downswing.... -
There are a lot of good female poker players. This is yet another one. I'm not surprised by her accomplishment. But I don't see how it's a "boost" for poker. If she's on ESPN tonight I might think differently.
I do think this story will have more impact internationally. But she won't ever have the name recognition of MoneyMaker or Raymer until she wins the big one in Vegas, and even then I wouldn't be too sure. I think the "poker boom" is deflating a bit, especially with the number of options to American players limited now by the withdrawal of many online poker rooms from the market because they misinterpreted the fact that the legislation had no legal impact on what we're doing.
Women, I think, are more intuitive than men, and I think that if they work on their poker skills, that the combination of intuition and skill will change the landscape in the poker world from a gender point of view.
The only thing I'd be worried about now if I was your average P5er, who I think is about 19 years of age, is that all the hotties on campus will disappear between classes and on nights and weekends whilst they clean our clocks playing online poker. -
Is it that ppl always misinterpret your posts or do you just not know how to express urself? Cuz I see you arguing your point alot in ur threads.
-
Well said, Lordx. I've often wondered how having a penis can help in poker. Card protector? Maybe you use it to hold your cards? Very confusing to all the internal sex organ folk.
"and Jamie Gold is about as close to a girl as a man can get"
Please don't shove him over to our side. -
this is really fucking simple to understand
Annette is not the best female MTTer in the world
she is the BEST MTTer in the world male or female -
"will every wife, sister, and GF now want to play thinking that its also a female sport?, thus leading to us having to share our Bk roll, and computers with them?"
????????????????? -
It gets better...
"I really cannot see any good becoming of this in the long run, every male poker players penis just shrunk a good inch because of A_15. Why couldn't she just play with Barbies while growing up like all the other little girls? "
Cigardad you really come off as an educated, mature, classy, intelligent, wise man....what more can I say...
New thread post: $exi$t A$$ makes post, is it good for P5s? -
Anytime anyone believes that poker is a game of luck is a good thing.
-
"The ones that understand that it's a skill should have a field day....
Guess what, you can play Texas Holdem against a 5 year old, and that 5 year old can have a winning session on you.
Sometimes, posts like these really make me wonder."
Seems to me lordxxetc. has a point here. Two points actually. Both of which are true.
Makes me wonder. -
Are you trying to say she's not really female?????????! zomg
-
BTW,
What's the over/under on how long before she takes over the #1 spot here?
