  1. "You may want to think twice before inviting Duane Crittenden II to your home game.

The 28 year old Florida man was arrested over the weekend after stabbing and shooting three other players who participated in an all-night private poker game.

According to local police, the game started up on Friday afternoon and lasted until around 6-7 am on Saturday morning. Police also said that it was a "high stakes" poker game.

Apparently Crittenden left the game "enraged" after feeling that he had been "cheated". He came back at around 9 am, and brought with him a gun and a knife.

He proceeded to stab Robert E. Ford multiple times and shoot him in the head twice. I am assuming that Ford must have cracked Crittenden's pocket aces or something, because it seems like he received some extra special treatment when he was murdered. The other two victims, Richard Smith and Jerome Henry, were both shot once in the head. This triple homicide occurred over the weekend just outside the city of Palatka in Florida.

After the murders, Crittenden scooped up as much cash as he could from the game and took off. Police estimate that he took between $2,000 to $9,000.

Police initiated a massive manhunt and soon found Crittenden. Police have said that the motive for the murders was that Crittenden had felt "cheated" by the other men in the game, and decided to exact some revenge. It's unknown whether the men had actually been cheating Crittenden II or whether he had just succumbed to some particularly bad beats and lost his mind.

All four men involved had criminal histories. Crittenden led the pack with 18 convictions, but police said that none of the convictions had been for anything "violent".

Just another reason that you should think twice before playing in a private poker game. Not only do you have to worry about police breaking down the door and raiding your $1/$2 private No Limit Hold'em game or armed robbers breaking down your door and stealing all of your bankrolls, but you also have to worry about homicidal players flipping out and shooting everyone after taking a bad beat. pokerstars sounds pretty good to me right about now."

  2. The pocket aces joke was pretty poor taste even for me, and I'm a jerk.
  3. WOW
  4. That was my thought as well. Thank goodness we all play online or you would probably read this same thing once a month.

  5. this would have been standard in the doyle brunson days..... thats truly sad tho

  6. <<<<<<<<<<BAD BEATS
  7. $9000.00 on the table at the end? High stakes?
  8. pretty large stakes for a home game
  9. meh, I guess..

The 1/2 games around here get $5k on the table no problem.
  10. $2,000 to 9,000

aka, $9,000 until the police had their taste
  11. we still dont know how he was cheated. bad beat? superuser? what did he think they did?
  12. "pretty large stakes for a home game"

    Not really.
  13. shit like this is why i stopped playing home games. i used to have a $.50/1 game when i was in college, but eventually i stopped hosting it. the guy that took up the game after i dropped it had his place robbed at gunpoint, and 2 months later, said that he was told the same gunman robbed another home game. there are too many sketchy people in this world for me to advertise that i have a few thousand dollars sitting around in my house/apartment while we're playing cards. imo, the guy in question deserves the death penalty for sure. life in prison at a minimum.
  14. No chance of him appearing on the next series of 'high stakes poker' then. Now that would be an exciting tv show. lol
  15. imo, the guy in question deserves the death penalty for sure. life in prison at a minimum.

my god, i would f'n hope so.
  16. Can't say I ever had a problem in homegames here in texas. 2-5 games have at least 8k on the table. Then again most of us have our own guns including myself, and its usally regulars.
  17. This will provide ammunition for the people who support the ban of online poker, when in fact it should provide evidence as to why online poker should be legal. Politicians are not the smartest group of people, an that is why everyone is so frustrated by our political process.
  18. the guys an idiot, he should hav shot himself before he gets caught and spends the rest of the time in prison. donkaments.
  19. Holy Crap. This is freaking crazy.

I'll admit that I've been a little nervous playing at some home games. The game that I play at occasionally has an armed security guard - most nights there is anywhere from $15k to $30k in the room depending on if they have 1 or 2 tables running. If someone wanted to rob the game they probably could, but it would mean that they would have to deal with the possibility of getting shot themselves. I think that it makes ppl think twice about robbing that game as opposed to other games around town.

Will he be allowed in next years PCA. IMO he didn't break any of PS rules so he should be allowed.
  21. Messed up thing is that some piece of shit attorney with no soul will claim extreme emotional disturbance and 12 people who are too stupid to get out of jury duty will let him off with a much lighter sentence if not send him to a mental hospital
  22. Not saying it justifies murder, but surprised noone here has entertained the idea that he was actually being cheated and the guy who was killed had it coming to him

  23. There was actually a home game in Orlando that was robbed a few months ago. Word never really got out because the guys running the game didn't want the cops to show up and their game to be shut down. Several people were hurt pretty badly with one guy actually getting pistol whipped and knocked out cold.
  24. Lets keep a little perspective, he could have been cheated and still that doesnt entitle him to end peoples lifes....

As for the guy i guess he belongs at a mental institution, i agree with the comments about the perils of home games.

dont see how the fact that the stakes were high or not is any relevant, this is a horrible crime and it saddens my heart that to se how people has lost respect for life.
  25. i think the focus here is not the stakes man, people got killed, thats the story, the fact that they were playing for nickles or millions makes no fcking difference...at all
  26. ya that's true
  27. yeah all my friends are broke so guess we just slum 20 $ tourneys instead of cash games
  28. online poker safer then live poker now?

  29. ...because online players cant read? I dont follow boke....
