1. Seen a lot of people slipping in comments about 'fold equity' when talking about hands and am wondering if anyone has a good explanation of what this means exactly? Have just picked up most poker terms (i think) but this one I really dont get. Google did not help either so here I am :)

    Thx
  2. uhhh first result in google

Fold equity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fold equity is a concept in poker strategy that is especially important when a player becomes short-stacked in a no limit (or possibly pot limit) tournament ...

  3. Fold equity is basically having enough chips that the person can fold a marginal hand.

    Sometimes absurd examples help

Say I have 23 preflop and I raise it to 800 chips. It folds to you who pushes all in for 801 chips. It costs me only 1 chip to win over 1600. So, even if you flipped over AA, I'm still going to call. In this scenario, you have no ability to push me off of my hand. You have no fold equity.

Same example, but you raised all in to 6,000. Now, I have to put in over 5,400 to win about 12,000 or so. Now, my 2-3 doesn't look as hot, so I fold. In this spot you have fold equity, you can force someone off of a hand.

    Does this help?
  4. Yeah ok thanks so... When ppl are talking about situations where they make a questionable raise for example, but justify it as they had 'fold equity' because even if their shove was not the best given their holdings, they gain value from the fact that their opponent may fold and they take the pot...? haha i think i use that a lot in turbos anyways, just didnt have a name for it.

    Thx hombres! ^^
