Tuesday March 7, 2006 broadcast on CTV Sportsnet, they were showing the HPC "Heads-up poker Championship". One of the players names was Noah Boeken. He lives in Europe and is a professional internet poker player.
Anyway, they did a mini-bio on the guy and visited his apartment to show the daily life of an internet poker player. What I saw shocked me. It was basically a flop pad. In the dining room was a large table. Guess what was on that table? 6 to 8 computers. At each computer was someone playing online poker. The site they showed they were at was UltimateBet.
As the camera panned around the room you could see the elaborate setup. Each computer had it's own telephone modem, therefore they were able to bypass the rule of each household having only one ISP. Each of the players were playing the same game. You could hear them all calling out their hands to each other. At the end one of the guys hands Boekn 4 grand said he owed it to him... For what??? Collusion possibly?
Gee, I don't know what this guy was thinking when he let the network in to interview him. Money makes people stupid I guess. Still feel like playing online??? You wanted proof... There it is! It's all on tape.
Incidentally, at the time I was playing online at partypoker and after seeing what I saw, I called them and told them . I said I wasn't playing anymore. They begged me to come back and put 20 bucks in my account. So the next day I take the 20 bucks and play in a 6 dollar re-buy. I come in 3rd place and win almost 1,800 bucks. Coincidence. Hmmm. ya .. ok ... Pigs fly too. Funny thing is that I cashed out almost 1200 of it and I haven't been able to win a dime since.
I think it was just hush money. -

I'm assuming this is a joke post, but regardless I just about fell out of my chair laughing. Thanks for making my night. -
I just called him... he swears this article is the real, I did not see the show.

ZeeJustin has a picture on his website I believe of a room in Noah's house with about 8 computers, and everyone is being played on ( Esfandiari is playing on one also ). Of course this guy is cheating in some way, everyone knows that.

I believe the article/show. I've seen pics of his setup and sounds like a reasonable assessment. I just found the 'hush money'/tournament conspiracy part of the email humorous. But I am fairly simple, so feel free to just ignore my comments! :)

You're right Jeff, the writer of this article is way too paranoid for online poker. If you feel cash out curses are a real thing, just don't play.
This set up is conducive to an excellent learning environment for poker. I've heard similar set ups used in other situations. When everyone around you is playing poker, talking about poker, and watching poker you can learn much more quickly. However, even if your intentions are not unethical, it can lead to sticky situations, so it may cause more trouble than it's worth.
I'm not saying there is no cheating going on because it's impossible for me to know. Everyone can draw their own assumptions, but I think it is important to realize that there are many reasons for having this kind of set up besides cheating. My guess would be Noah doesnt care to let people see his set up because he and his friends are using it to learn from each other and not to sit at the same tables colluding. -
Amen.

Cal, change this quick before anyone notices
" are not unethical" -
I'm saying you can play in an environment like this without doing anything unethical. However, if people in a set up like this are playing the same tournaments, then the situation can really get ugly. You'd have to not let the others know your hole cards when you eventually end up at the same table. That may be too much to ask, so people in this set up shouldn't play in the same tournaments. However, I do want to reiterate my point that set ups like this in general aren't necessarily designed for cheating.
If you think it's highly unlikely that something like this could exist without leading to questionable situations or cheating, you may be right. It's definitely not good for online poker as a whole. -
cal would you like to buy some land in the everglades?

Yep definently another online pros "school for poker success". I am 100% sure no colluding is going on there. They are obv using 6 different ip'd computers for "learning purposes"

"Hush money."
BWHAHAHAHAAH. Where do you get the shit you are smoking HotFlash? -
DUDE I live in Canada and i saw the poker broadcast that night and I was shocked... the whole story of the article is true... they were all setup on the same table and were playing the same tournament or cash game... late at night only one guy was left and he prolly made the FT and had to give some of his money to the other guys (prolly like 6 of them). I dunno about calling the hands but it looked reeeaal fishy... I'm assuming Noah isnt dumb enough to know that if he knew that what he was doing was illegal, that he wouldn't let ppl film the whole thing.

Read the "title" its self explanatory.

the question is how do we stop this cheating? i'm afraid to play in any tourney bigger than a $50 buy in. i remember reading about pp busting someone and withholding the payoff, but they only were able to bust the cheatplaying multiple hands because someone ratted him out. plus the cheat thought it was ok because' he knew a few others doing the same thing.
