  9. Nice win Dragon. You sound pretty humble about your performance, but I thought you played well during the time we played together. You made two very strong moves when we were down to the 5 and 6 table range that I wanted to comment on.

First, you pushed on me when my stack was about 19k and you had about 8k. I raised with AJ from MP and you went over the top. The hand that I had, the stack I had, and the stack that you had, made this a perfect play. I had to have something very strong to call you. This was perfect situational poker.

Later I was up to 25k and you had 9k, blinds were 400/800. I raised UTG with AK to 2400. You pushed all-in with JJ. I felt that I had to call you; your pair held and you jumped above average. This was a very strong "I'm gonna take a shot to get into position to win the tournament". A lot of people would have played JJ slower against the UTG raise because my only realistic hand range would be 99, 1010, QQ, KK, AA, AK, and AQ. Either way, you knew you were gonna get called, but you were prepared to take a shot even though this was bubble time.

I wish I would have learned from you at bubble time. I picked up 1010 vs a 2nd chair raiser and wasn't sure if 1010 was good or not. We both had about 9.5k in chips, and after his raise I think a push would have gotten him to lay down what turned out to be AQ. I think he would have laid it down because of the bubble time. I ended up flat calling pre-flop. The flop came Q52 with two clubs. The EP raiser pushed in. I read this as AK or something besides a Q, maybe even a club draw. I called and he put me out.

Anyway, congratulations on your win. If you keep playing like that, there'll be many more big ones to come.

  10. Thanks for the kind words. I am very happy with how I played the middle part of this tournament. I lost a big pot with AA vs. JJ right before the first break. That left me with around 1500. I was basically short-stacked from that point up until right before the money bubble.

    A few things:

    1. The AJ hand- I honestly have no recollection of this hand. I doubt I was pushing with something worse than AJ. I would have known you were gonna make that call a good % of the time.

    2. JJ vs AK- Like you said, I just took a shot to try to go deep in the tournament. I thought there was a decent chance I had the best hand at the moment. The hands played themselves from both sides on that one. With your stack, I would have insta-called.

    3. TT vs AQ- You can't really beat yourself up over this one. You had a series of tough situations that hit you all at once. I think you had to lay TT on a 9-high board before this (which I believe was the correct play). As far as your bust out hand goes, I'm not sure there was anything you could have done. I doubt he dumps AQ preflop no matter what the action is. I thought we were already in the money at this point, so I think he would have gambled. Regardless, I don't think you played it poorly.

Thanks again for the encouragement. I will hopefully see you at a final table soon.
