Does anyone else play these stupid, irritating shove fests--specifically, the Aussie and Poker After Dark freerolls? If so, have you ever gotten anywhere with them?
-
I once took first in a NL holdem freeroll at 11:40pm
It took until about 5am
Definitely not worth the time or effort if there is any way you can make a small deposit.
At my tables, it didn't seem to be a shovefest, definitely wasn't that way after the first couple of hours. People were actually playing pretty tight and predictable once we got near the money (except for one nut job who ended up busting in 28th).
In short, I don't advise it if you're playing in them to build a bankroll. If you're just playing for fun, I recommend going all in a few times at the very beginning with average plus hands to try and build a stack that will make the tournament worth playing. -
Yes, got 2nd in I believe the Poker After Dark one which only sent the winner to the next round. Ever since then I've lost all interest.

the day i downloaded FTP I won a freeroll and got like $14 or something like that...

Razz Freerolls are dreamy. 1st 3rd and 15th in the 3 ive played when bored.
-
I had the same experience, ppyb. Got third in that one, wasting two hours. If anyone actually won their trip package through three rounds of these freerolls, I bow down before you. You're a hell of a lot more patient than I am.

I got 2nd in a PL omaha freeroll on FTP. Won $12 woohoo
-
I played in that poker after dark freeroll and made it to that January game- I think between all the levels it was well over 7 hours....very long time
-
I played in a couple when I couldn't sleep and nothing was on. It was kinda funny how fast people got knocked out. I just waited till I got a big hand and pushed preflop and was called by about 4 people. Was able to hold out till 11th but had a stack nowhere near any of the other stacks. Then I realized that it was way better just to play in a dollar tourney or something lol.

I PWN these..I think I might have the most FTP freeroll wins of all-time, i consider myself an expert on them..PM me for details/advice etc

What is the best overall strategy for these freerolls??
-
not play them
-
The FTP Ironman freerolls are worse, I shoved 15 BBs on two limpers with AT and got called by A7, river 7 ended my day, bunch of morons.

One night a few months ago I signed up for every Poker After Dark and Aussie Millions freerolls for about 2 hours. I was using it as multitabling practice and had, at one point, 11 of them going at the same time. Kinda cool for multitabling practice if you are a multitabling noob.
