I go an email about some face the ace qualifier and how some other guy could'nt make it so I was next in line. It seemed a little sketchy because they asked for my SSN. Is there any number I could call to verify that the email is authentic? Thanks!
-
Well did you take second in the tournament? Odds are a new brilliant scam, post the email in this thread!
-
dude......could you be more dense? they asked for YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!
-
Hello Justin, One of the qualifiers in the Face the Ace freeroll is not able to attend the auditions in Las Vegas. You are the next place finisher, please let me know as soon as possible if you can attend. All the details are below. Congratulations on winning a Face the Ace prize package valued approximately at $3,000. Your package includes airfare for you and a guest to and from Las Vegas, five-star hotel accommodations at the South Point Hotel and Casino, $500 in spending money and an audition with the show’s producers for the opportunity to appear on Face the Ace. (Please note, you are responsible for getting to and from Las Vegas Airport to the South Point Hotel. There will be an abundance of Taxi's so you should not have a problem finding transportation.) You will arrive in Las Vegas on the morning of August 20th and are required to attend a mandatory orientation meeting at 3PM on the 20th. We will then begin the auditions at 4PM on the 20th and continue on the 21st. If you are selected to appear on the show, the tapings will take place on August 22nd and 23rd, you will depart on August 24th. Please reply with the following information as soon as possible: Your Name: Your Age: Your Phone Number: Your Address: Your Social Security Number (To be used for a criminal background check): Guest Name: Guest Age: City and Airport you would like to depart from: Once you have confirmed attendance and provided the information above, we will deposit the spending cash in your account and contact you with a proposed flight itinerary. You and your guest will need to provide ID showing you are both at least 21 years of age. *Note if you are not a US citizen, we will need your passport, ID or relevant documents to be used for the criminal background check. Also, if you do not reside in the US or Canada, you will need a visa to travel within the US. Full Tilt Poker is not responsible for assistance with your visa and will not provide any documentation to be used in obtaining your visa. If you cannot obtain a visa, if you are not at least 21 years of age or cannot attend the auditions for any reason, the seat will be awarded to the next place finisher. You will not receive any compensation or consolation if you do not attend. Please let us know if you have any questions. Regards, Steve Full Tilt Poker

Yeah it does, minus the "let me know" at the top. I would have thought he would have said "us". I've never heard of any poker related spoofing scams. Either way I'm paranoid so you should reply asking them to call you....actually wouldn't they call you anyway about this unique opportunity? Idk def shady....ur not that dense tho =)
Do an IP trace of the email. Isn't FTP staff located in Isle of Man or Ireland or something? -
i mean the email looks pretty good but i would def get some other form of verification. email them at an address you know is full tilt (they may not answer back in a month tho), a phone number, some way. you shouldnt just give your ss # w/o being completely sure its fo real. and also, what email address did it come from?
-
nice brag about being the 1st person to get an email from fulltilt in August
-
thanks for the input guys! the email came from events@fulltiltpoker.com. im trying to find a phone number but no luck yet.
-
well, did you recently finish on the bubble in a face the ace tourney??? ifso then its prob legit cuz events@fulltiltpoker.com is a real email address.
-
I dont know if events@fulltiltpoker.com is a legit full tilt email address. I can't find a link for it anywhere not even on google.

And even if it was a legit e-mail adress. it's no guarantee that it's real. There's not to hard to "fake" an e-mail!

Best bet is to initiate an email to support yourself, they will be able to verify if this is legit or not.
Certainly seems legit, scammers usually go for the large scale volume, this (if a scam) would be directed solely at a few people at the top of the face the ace tournament, and then the scammer would have to be able to get those few people's email addys? -
Could FTPDoug be so kind to chime in on this? If so, maybe edit the title of this e-mail.
-
Sounds sketchy to me too but I'd e-mail security and see if they can help me verify that the e-mail is legit.
I doubt highly that they will EVER give up a phone number that you can contact them on.
If it turns out it's legit. congrats & GL! -
Did you play any face the ace qualifying games? Just send FTP support the email and ask them to verify. Wish i got scam mail like this to check on.
-
No site will ever ask you for your Social Security Number, so I am confident you should give it to them so you can then come back on here and tell us how they ruined your life and be the martyr!
Thx, gl -
Obv brag about getting spam.
-
if it sounds too good to be true......it probably is
-
yeah why would you be next in line unless you finished 2nd in a qualifier.
-
if i was u i would just contact support@fulltiltpoker.com about the e-mail u recieved and just wait for a response and see what happens
-
making an email seem like its coming from events@fulltiltpoker.com isnt hard.
If you make a new email and address it to events@fulltiltpoker.com it would be extremely hard for them to get access to the emails they dont know the password for/couldnt make personally.
Basically I could send you an email from abc@ftp.com but if you replied I have basically no way of receiving it unless I actually own that address..
idk maybe things have changed since I last sent fake emails ;) -
Yes I did bubble the tournament. I sent security@fulltiltpoker.com and email and they forwarded it to the events department? Then the same guy (steve) emails me saying this: Hello Justin, I received this from our security team, the email you were sent yesterday was legit. I also received your email this morning and tried calling you to get your social security number via telephone, but there was no answer, please let me know the best time to call you to further discuss. Regards, Steve Full Tilt Poker
