Getting US tax refunds for Canadians

    Hi, I am a Canadian player who won few $ in poker tournaments in US and would like to file my tax refund.

    Does anyone know any good company in Canada that will help you getting refunds on your poker winnings in US?<span> </span>There are some companies that offer that service with different fees.<span> </span>I would like to hear any suggestions/experience in dealing with them.<span> </span>

    I'm in the US, but I'm thinking this is a pretty easy return to file. Give yourself 2 hours, you could probably figure it out (you'd probably just need to file a 1040, you can get those for free at IRS.gov).

    But, I would think any tax service that handles US returns there could do this. You aren't filing as a poker pro, just want to get whatever refund your owed. I'd just get out the phone book and call around. Though, you are late in filing your return (unless you got an extension), so you may be paying penalties.

    I don't think he wants US tax return info. What he is talking about is he won money in the US and the US casino or poker room took out their cut of tax because it was probably over the 600 dollar amount or whatever it is, and since gambling winnings in Canada aren't taxable, there are companies that will get the tax back for you from the US. I have no idea if that made sense lol

    I used Refund Management Services (RMS) which is a Toronto based company but they took 25% which was kind of ridicilious. I think Sorel uses it too but after talking to Cory Caroll at WPT Fallsview he was saying that some people do it as little as $200ish (I think?) which is mega cheap as I spent thousands of dollars to retrieve my 30% withholding tax back.

    My tax was close to $10K so 25% fee is pretty significant compare to $200s fee. I heard some companies charge pretty cheap but I don't know them and I am not sure if they are for real. I wonder if anyone ever used any of them. Thanks,
