  1. This forum has a lot of folks who would like to help in getting our game back on the legal track, but don't really know what to do. I have posted several times concerning Senator John Kyl (R-AZ) and how he has spent over 10 years crafting legislation to ban online gambling.

In doing research, there really is no explanation why he has become such a zealot over this issue, but more than any other elected federal official, Kyl has attacked Internet gambling.

    In 1997, he sponsored S474
    In 1999, he sponsored S692
    In 2003, he sponsored S627

There is a way to show your support for online poker though. ActBlue is an online Fundraising site that is monitored by the Jim Pederson campaign (Kyl's AZ opponent)

    PokerPlayers against Kyl

If you can give a few bucks to his campaign, we might be able to be the straw that breaks the camel's back. The campaign has caused both candidates to spend a ton of money and Kyl has deep resources for the final days. It would be cool if this could get stickied and even cooler if P5s could raise say 10k to get rid of this guy.
  2. What has Pederson proposed as a solution? Has he said that he will introduce legislation (if elected) to make an exemption for poker? I haven't seen his position on this issue.

By the way, has ANY politician said they will introduce legislation to exempt poker?
  3. I think at this point it's not necessarily about bringing in people that will do things differently, although that would be the ideal solution (it just might not be possible this year). It's about saying, "If you do this, we will vote you out." Eventually, if enough politicians get voted out of office for not caring about the concerns of millions of Americans who enjoy online poker, the ones who remain or who replace them will realize the power of this group and begin to comply.

  4. Well said Adam. Moreover, this case is specifically important. Kyl sits on two of the most powerful and relative committees to our cause and has shown a specific maleficence to online gambling. He has the ability to set the agenda and get his bills brought up for hearings and votes. Pederson would be a freshman senator and even if he were predisposed against online gaming, he wouldn't have the power to guide it through the senate. He isn't by the way; I spoke at length with his campaign and he feels this issue should never have been brought up with all the other more important challenges to our country.

This is a chance to take proactive action today to ensure our success down the road when a carve-out, regulation or striking down of the bill comes along. Kyl is going to be a giant boulder in the path when those days come and removing him today will help clear the way then. We all were surprised with the way this legislation was ramrodded through without debate and discussion; lets not be surprised again.

BTW, 2+2ers jumped on this immediately yesterday after I posted it. I guess they recognize +EV moves. I'm sure P5ers will take up the fight and show support.

  5. Just to point out an example. The current legislation has a clause:

"The Department of the Treasury would issue regulations within 270 days designed to block restricted transactions."

The powerful Senate Finance Committee has jurisdiction and oversight over the Treasury. Bill Frist is retiring, Rick Santorum is likely gone. This would make Kyl one of the most senior members of this important committee with direct oversight of the department who will oversee the way the bill gets implemented.

  6. FUCK
  7. or fucked.

That's why you should always vote Libertarian.
  8. So far, players have donated a little over $4000.00 to defeat John Kyl. I know we can do better than that. There is 23 million of us, remember?

If you can spare $5 or $10, please do so as now is when those bucks count the most. Pederson is closing to within the margin of error so your dollars might really be the difference if we can get enough poker players to give and defend the game.

Here is the donations link again

BTW, I'm pretty sure this is the first P5s thread to contain the word maleficence

  9. Very cool -- up to $4800 and only 27 donors.
  10. too bad pederson is a liberal who wants open borders, is against the military, and doesnt give two shits about online poker. Any one who would vote for or give money to jim pederson is a total moron, regardless of what john kyl has done. I wont be voting for kyl but it would be a cold day in hell before i actually voted for pederson. Anyone who supported republican ideals for the most part(and im not republican) and who is willing to vote democratic due to the unfortunate online gambling bill just proves that LIBERALISM IS A MENTAL DISORDER
  11. >> doesnt give two shits about online poker.

Thank you, that is exactly what we are looking for. Mr. Kyl does give more than a few shits and has made his service a CRUSADE against our game. If you can elect a conservative who would take us back to a place where government stays out of our personal lives, I would be happy to support them. Unfortunately that is not Mr. Kyl.

  12. Traffic King, you are completely mistaken. Kyl is public enemy #1 to online poker in the Senate. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. The online poker community should be 100% behind Pederson. Another race we should be supporting is the Democratic Seante candidate in Tennessee, Harold Ford Jr who is in a tight battle for the seat Frist is abandoning to run for president. It would be a nice if this seat went Democratic.
