  1. Pretty basic, but I'm a SnG player that jumped on a promotional opportunity for a small amount free $$$.

With this 'free' money, I want to try and build my BR playing cash. Without any real evidence, I'll go out on a limb and say that I to suck at cash games.

Any basic strategies that I should be learning/incorporating?
  2. What you plan on playing? 6max?

A few tips that have I find beneficial -
    1) Don't just sit down at a table without watching the players play for a few minutes. Get a 'feel' of the table.

    2) Always sit down with a full buy in.

    3) Never, ever play when drunk/pissed off. It is a lot easier to lose loads of your roll playing cash than donkaments.

    4) Run well.
  3. Image and perceived image are king.
  4. With cash games you have the luxury of patience. What I mean is, there are no ever increasing blinds and antes so you don't HAVE to make a move to stay in the game. No need to shove A2o when you're down to 10BB's.

Adjust your strategy based on what your opponents do. Are there a lot of limpers? Be carefull and raise your monsters! A lot of caling stations? Don't bluff too much.

I think the tables at the .05/.1 levels are all 10 man, but I would join in at 6 or less.

    1) Good advice, shall do.
    2) Never understood this and still don't.
    3) Agreed (will have to work on the 'pissed off' bit thou).
    4) I'll definitely take any luck I can get.

  6. Position is obviously key, you will make a lot of money just by isolating weak limpers from LP and outplaying them post-flop. Use tracking software like Holdem Manager to get a good read on the table and don't go broke with top pair/top kicker or an overpair unless it's against someone proven to be retarded or manically aggressive. Only make creative plays/bluffs against good players, don't try to get fancy play syndrome against weak players. As stated a million times before, just try to stay one level ahead of your opponent. My honest opinion would be to subscribe to deucescracked or cardrunners if you really want to own cash games.

  7. Very true, stay patent, you can wait for big preflop hands. If everyone at the table is being overly tight you cvan open your game a little, but there is no eason to try and steal blinds, not worth it. You want to be in position to break people for big pots. Do that by trapping people heads up who play KJ, QJ and other hands where you can have them dominated. Or out flop them by hitting sets or getting straights/flushes with suited connectors. One BIG suggestion, do not play small pairs or suited connectors if preflop it will costs more than 10% of your stack or original raisers stack. When it costs more than 10% it is not worth it since you'll only hit flop with those hands about 12-15% of the time. Patience is a virtue and keeping an eye on what other players are raising and calling preflop with will help you make better decisions when against them.
  8. Please remember I'm new to cash games so I'll be starting with limit.

My thought or MIS-understanding was I would want to play any low pocket pair, suited and un-suited connectors for the min buy-in? Is that not the best way to win a potentially big pot with smaller cards (ie. pocket cards are 33 and I hit another 3 on the flop)?

The advice given in this post has been the nutz. Thanks guyz.

Misread the first go around. I now see what you are saying about the 10%.

  10. First things first. Because I am as old as a grandpa and meaner than an ex-wife's mother, let me suggest you first decide if you are going to "attempt to learn" or whether you are actually committed to learning.
Go into cash games with the wrong mindset and you'll be thinking the stock market looks like a good place for your last dollar.
Good luck. There are plenty of folks anxious to help you with your education.
  11. Harrrington on Cash Games. A no brainer.
