I was in a $35 dollar buy-in live tournament yesterday when this hand happened. We were nine handed and I was one off the button. I was unfamiliar with all the players at the table except the two players to the left of me that started the tourney at the same table as me. The player under the gun an unknown raised 2.5 times the bb to 500. The next four players folded to me and I looked down at QQ. The player under the gun and I were basically even in chips both with about 6-7k. I originally put the guy on a big hand before I even looked at my cards. I thought his pre-flop raise was an action raise and he might be on Aces or Kings. So after I looked down at my cards I decided that I need to see where I stand, so I re-raised to 1500. I figure if I were re-raised he was indeed on Aces or Kings and I could get off my hand now verses losing my whole stack if the flop comes 10 high. The player to the left of me went all in for 1600, the blinds folded and it came back to the original raiser and he reraised another thousand. Again this bet made me think he was big AA or KK. In fact I decided that those were the only two hands he could have and I folded. I thought about the pot odds that I was getting, nearly 7-1. However I put him on a big hand and didn't want to go broke on a low flop. I folded the player to my left showed AA, and the player under the gun showed JJ. I am wonder if my play/thinking was correct??? Even though I thought I had an under pair is 7-1 good enough odds to call, and if I do call and the flop is low like 10 high and he bets out what do I do then????

i cant decide whether this is really bad play or clever play by the utg with JJ. once u reraise him and then a push, JJ looks no good, with only 500 invested i think he should fold. But his reraise to 2600 makes it look like he has a monster and wants you in. If you push, whats he going to do then? fold with over 1/3 of his stack in middle already or call all in for a 3 way pot facing surely better hands. I like your reasoning here with QQ and as you say 7-1 pot odds looks tempting but if he leads out on any flop other than a nice Q for you, what then ? I like your play here and just not sure about the utg play with JJ !

The utg play with JJ is absolutely ridiculous, but you made a good laydown to say the least.
