Would appreciate any/all comments on following hand:
$1/3 NL HE at Caesars Palace Vegas.
I've got about $320 behind, been at the table for a couple of hours and have some good reads on the villians.
I'm on the button (seat 8) with Qh8h.
The two seat raises UTG to $10. To this point he's raised a wide range (QT suited and up) preflop and been a calling station post-flop, willing to call off his chips to a showdown with a decent, but not great, second-place hand (e.g. top pair, top kicker vs. top set). He's rebought a couple of times.
Three callers before me so I call. The SB calls and the BB folds so 6 players to the flop.
Flop comes 9TJ with 2 diamonds, so I've flopped second nut straight.
SB (nine seat) pushes all in for about $200. This is a 21 year old kid who bluffed off 60% of his stack about 5 hands previously and appeared to be steaming. He came into the table uberaggressive, raising any two from late position and trying to push people out of pots. My read is his overbet is a total bluff.
Two seat makes a slow call. I put him on 2 pair. Seats 3 and 4 fold.
Seat five goes in the tank for at least 2 minutes, then reluctantly calls. He's been playing tight-weak, only raising or betting out with 2 pair or better.
Action is to me. I'm worried about only 2 hands, KQ and 2 diamonds, but it doesn't feel like either the two or five seats have these hands. The nine seat is already getting up so I know he's got junk and didn't want any callers, let alone 2.
I decide to push all-in with my made hand and get an immediate call from seat two - but he's only got about $35 left so no worries.
Seat five tanks again and reluctantly calls (he has me covered).
The board blanks out.
Hands:
Seat 9: unknown - he mucks and leaves the table
Seat 2: TJ for two pair
Seat 5: 99 for a flopped set of 9s
I scoop the $1300 pot, amazed no one had diamonds or a bigger str8 draw.
Thoughts? -
you have 10 dollars in the pot and are thinking of calling 200 without the nuts?
KQ and 2 diamonds shouldnt be the only hands that worry you, the other two callers have plenty of outs for sure.
Not worried about the overshove, just the two callers
your hand is great but youre basically flipping for your stack with nothing invested
note* i probably shove because i <3 flipping getting nasty odds -
1. The only hand you worry about here is KQ.....if someone has 2 diamonds......so be it. Its def possible 2 ppl are sharing a diamond draw so they might be sharing outs anyway.
2. The players are so bad live that this is a def call....if someone flopped the nuts so be it........its $200 to win $1300 with 2nd nuts.
3. Op is obv a solid player from the midwest(milwaukee area) who watched me run over the 2/5 game earlier in the week and obv knows what he's doing. :)
4. Its honestly not the best spot cuz kq is a very likely hand for one of the flatcallers to be holding......but given the pot odds Im puttin my money just about everytime. -
Thanks Akat11, appreciate the comments. In my mind came down to too much $'s to fold after the second caller, especially when one was a calling station and the other I felt strongly would have reraised with the nuts.
Sometimes it all works out... now let me tell you about flopping the flush in the SB with Js9s versus the BB's AK (no spades) when he refused to chop (after he looked at his cards)... he couldn't wait to get his $'s in with top pair/top kicker... LOL!
Lesson is, always chop! -
No.......the lesson is NEVER CHOP.....:P
I really dont care about chop either way.......just as long as the person is consistent and sticks to their chop/no chop the entire time. Cant choose when you wanna chop....either u chop all the time or none of the time.
