I am new to this site and always wondered how all these regulars that play every sunday in almost all of the high buy-in MTTs, seem to make the money on a constant basis and some even make the final tables back to back.
Is it because they have the bankroll and the time to consume, and is it based on trial and error. We only see their success stories, how many times before they make the money do they lose.
I have been playing poker for the past year and I must say I get better as each day goes, but for some reason ONLINE play is like the devil. I obviously am doing something wrong when I just make small profit levels every week. I play in SnGs ($10-20), MTTS ($20-60), CASH (1-2 NL). But I just seem to seldomly make a profit at the end of the week.
I do not depend on poker to pay for living expenses but it would be a joyful thing if I could just have a nice finish in one of these MTTs but I always seem to bust out.
However, I am a GREAT live player. I always make the money in the tournaments I play around the city fielding 50-200 players, and buy ins of 100+. Same with live cash games 1-2 NL, 2-4 NL, I seem to rock at them.
So the question is, WHY is there a variance in my play ONLINE compared to LIVE. My girlfriend says its probably because you do not take online as seriously and the chips are elctronic and a call is easily made and your all alone so you dont have to show face to anyone while your alone. But I seem to play the EXACT same strategy and hands and style I play when I play live, but online I come up behind but in live I come up on top.
I do wish some of the top online poker players take a read at this and maybe reply to me via this post or private, I would appreciate any help given. I am even willing to give out shares to people that can adjust my game play ONLINE (mainly in MTTs).
Thank You in advance, as I appreciate every attempt at a reply.
Regards,

As I didnt read your whole post, I will only comment on where you said the top players always make the money. If you check the stats of all the top players, their ITM is usually between 15-20%. Which is very good, but nothing spectacular. They do however push any edge and +ev situation that usually allows them to not only make the money, but make it deep in the tournys they play. They all know the real money in every tourny is the top 3. They do not fold to cash, they play to win. This may or may not have helped you at all.

There are a lot of answers to your questions, and Im too tired to go really in depth right now, but I think the general agreement is that live play is generally softer.
For instance, if you go to a casino, 1/2 nl is probably the lowest game you can sit in, where as online there is .01/.02 and .05/.10 etc. So a 1/2 nl game online will generally be much tougher than a 1/2 game live. -
You say you do well in live tourneys with fields of 50-200 players. The online tourneys have fields that are often ten times that large. It's a minefield to get through. I think the key for the ranked players is volume, volume, volume. They may play play 10-20 tourneys daily. Pushing all situations when they think they have an advantage allows them to gather enough chips early to have a shot at going deep. If they bust they just move on the the next tourney. The main key I think is volume. I can't count the times I've seen Annette open push with a small pocket pair and double up. I also think that some of the major players share a bankroll for the big tourneys. Wish I could join the club.

I guess all your replies are correct. Maybe ONLINE play isnt just for me or for my budget since you need a huge bankroll to have the edge against players and push all in everytime you see an edge against another.
