  1. Hey been playing poker a few years for recreation but I've decided when I graduate university this summer I want to start playing part-time after work everyday. I've done a lot of reading on BRM and I don't ever want to deposit again. I deposited $25 about a week and a half ago and I'm up to around $80 now.

Question for you guys/gals in similar situations ... what kind of games are you playing? I initially started 8 tabling 45/90 man turbos with $0.55 and $1.10 buyins. I noticed (even though its a small sample) a huge difference in ROI from 45 vs 90.

45 man games I have 16% ROI for 8/37 cashes at 22% ITM
90 man games I have 201% ROI for 10/27 cashes at 37% ITM.

I know it's a very small sample but I'm really noticing how much of a shoving donkfest the 45s are. The blind structure hits you so fast unless you get a few double ups early you're not making the final table. I feel in the 90s I have a big advantage because of the slower structure which awards aggressive play. I'm not playing regular because the rake is too high. I like the speed of turbo and always had a good idea of when to shove/fold. I also like the fact in the 90s' structure I can make a lot of plays I can't make in the 45s.

At what point would you start mixing in $3.25 90 man turbos? I read these play almost the same as the $1.10s. 100 buy-ins seems a little too conservative ...

P.S. What kind of stats should I be using for PT3? So far it's VPIP/FPR/AFq/hands ... I noticed in the 45s there was no point in having all the extra stats like steal % or fold to steal % because there arent enough occurences to generate the stats.
  2. I think you answer your own question in the sense of what tournament you should be playing and as far as BRM goes if you have read up on it I would say follow the BRM guidelines you read about. If you only have $80 dollars and 8 tabling at a dollar a piece it won't take long to go broke on a downswing.
  3. I would throw them in occasionally, if ur not comfortable losin a few of them, then stay at the 1.10's
  4. I found this to be an interesting article, and it gives you info on how to move up stakes.
  5. Hey thanks for all the responses so far ... I think I might 6-table instead right now to possibly try and fix some leaks I have ... I used to play less tables but now that I have a HUD it makes decisions much easier.

I found HITTHEPANDA somehow and checked out how he built his bankroll ... unfortunately it involved many 45 mans (not sure if it was turbo at $3.25 level), and a lot of $4.40 - 180 MTTs. I think regular speed is where it's at building a roll wise, but very punishing at the micro level.

I'll take a look at the article ... and I know what you guys mean about downswings. Had my first losing session today, all the way down to 67 ... at $73 currently.

OPR updated and here are the new stats (notice the trend):

    45 mans - 5% ROI with 8/41 cashes @ 20% ITM
    90 mans - 206% ROI with 11/29 cashes @ 38% ITM.

I think I'll be sticking to 90s ;) ... If anyone is an up and coming player (or at least believes it like I do lol), send me a pm maybe we can talk/player some turbos and talk it over on skype.

  6. Update: Not enough players playing the $1.10/90 man turbo to get enough volume to progress my BR. the 45s are getting 3 games up by the time the 90 fills ... but the 45s are not profitable for me. I have $96 in my account.

Should I just stick to the same format and grind it out ... or maybe switch to FR cash where I can get more hands in? I've also been told that FR/6max cash have skills easily transferable to MTT ...

I basically want to get to the point where I have a big enough stack to be playing ONLY $2.20/180 man turbos and the micro turbo scheduled MTTs on stars. I'm assuming I'm going to need roughly at least $220-250 for this.

So grind out the $1/90s over and over until I reach this BR size ... or switch to 5NL?

    Any advice would be great.

  7. mix stt satty's to the 1/4 milly imo.
  8. Stick with the games you are playing and winning. If the 45s are not profitable then play the 90s. Just feeling comfortable playing in a game makes a huge difference.
  9. Solid advice so I guess I'll continue the long journey haha. Maybe I should make a blog :p

  10. take a step back and mix in some $0.55 45-man turbos to learn 45-man strat a bit more. They really aren't a post-flop game, they're a shove/fold preflop game. If you can learn those you will profit very nicely.

If you really don't want to play 45-mans, always can throw in the $.55 90-mans as well just to increase table volume.
  11. i agree with Mattieboy. ur sample size is too small to know if you know what you are doing in the 45s or are just experiencing variance.

I played the $.25's and $.10 until I got to $25 and then I continued, but would take a few shots at the $1.40 90s. I would say that as long as you have over the 100 buy ins, then take a shot here or there at just the next level up.

You can PM me any time.
  12. I know the sample size is small I just feel there is too much luck involved in the 45s' structure. Also said above the satty to the 1/4'million is gold so I'll be playing those also ...

Question is how many 45s should I play unsuccessfully Combined with bad ROI before calling it quits? I like how my roll has been increasing ... :p

Thanks again for all the advice ... Keep the ideas coming tho!

I don't believe this is correct. You need to study your push / fold game and get in a lot of volume.
  14. try the $2 180 mans sng's...very profitable...lots of exploitable plays...marriage hurts volume and peace of mind
  15. ITs a grind dude.. Increase volume if you can.. You said in your stats you played 70 games total.. Thats pretty much a good 2 hour session of 180's once you get used to multitabling.. ANd if you only want to play 220 180's and you want to practice good BR management. You better increase your br to like 500.. Because sometimes you hit really fun and downswings like this the last 1500 games or so..

  16. well i wanted to use 2.20 / 180s as a BR builder because the blind structure is nice along with the payouts. I want to eventually start playing turbo MTTs and regular speed MTTs in the summer when school's done. i guess theres nothing else to do but just grind it up :P.

i hope the 45s don't suck me dry though lol

  17. Dont be the jack of all trades be the master of one, then you can master the next thing. If you are building a roll, keep with the profitable/comfortable game. When roll is built and game is mastered you can branch out... Play the 90s till you can do it in your sleep.

    It only makes sense.
  18. I'm where your at after some recent training from high ranked pocket fiver ive turned my game around and now I'm building my stack or winning back what i initially lost lol any how I am making a profit at the 45's but like you stated the blind structures are not for everyone and I also like the 90's and 180s better. the only way to have a lower bank roll and play these 2.20+ buy ins is to increase your ITM% and most people do that by lowering there table amount but then you lower you rate since your at less tables lol so the choice is yours.
