  4. This thread is getting a little boring so I figured I would add some more Mike Tyson quotes because they are just so awesome.

“[He] called me a ‘rapist’ and a ‘recluse.’ I’m not a recluse.”

"I paid a worker at New York's zoo to re-open it just for me and Robin. When we got to the gorilla cage there was 1 big silverback gorilla there just bullying all the other gorillas. They were so powerful but their eyes were like an innocent infant. I offered the attendant $10,000 to open the cage and let smash that silverback's snotbox! He declined."

"One morning I woke up and found my favorite pigeon, Julius, had died I was devastated and was gonna use his crate as my stickball bat to honor him. I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher. I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand he was out cold, convulsing on the floor like a infantile retard."

[To a female reporter] "It's no doubt I am going to win this fight and I feel confident about winning this fight. I normally don't do interviews with women unless I fornicate with them. So you shouldn't talk anymore... Unless you want to, you know."

  6. I find it great when there is talk on the table for several reasons.

    1. I want the bad players to hate me on the table - makes them more willing to get involved with me as opposed to other players. And they'll also want to gamble more against me.

    2. Get someone on tilt, especially if I've gotten lucky against them. Again - more willing to get involved with me with a lesser hand.

    3. Get the big stacks on your side. Hopefully you get them to respect a few of your raises or 3-bets.

    4. Image - if I am talking a lot - it makes people think I am looser than I really am.

Look - the berated player is not going to change his playing style because you got the best of him in one hand, one tourney or one conversation. All you should be focused on is getting the chips from that player - and if you can do that via berating him - so be it.

I have so few advantages in the game because I've never used a training site, read the right books, installed assistance software, talked on AIM with anyone regarding a hand or actually, you know, worked on my game. If I can use some table talk to improve my results - I'm going to do it. If you don't like seeing the berating going on - just turn off your chat or block the individual.

  7. I've been going on about this topic for, I dunno, 5-6 years now; I'm delighted to see a highly respected young professional singing the same tune.

Look folks, there are a million good reasons for not berating bad players, but let me give two extremely important (and very different) ones here:

    1. It's bad for the game. I agree that few players will actually start playing better if you berate them, but some will get up and leave - I've seen it happen many times. Furthermore, it takes the "Fun fun we're here to gamble" quality out of the game. When that happens, your EV goes down.

    2. It's bad for you. Life is short and there are not enough smiles and laughs in it. Far too many tears. Whether you're playing poker to pay the rent or for recreation, make your time at the table (B&M or electronic) one of those times that you smile and others smile. It's wonderful for your karma. I'm not surprised to see that ImaLucSac picked this up from Tommy Angelo - Tommy is a zen-master of this stuff.

I hate sounding like an old guy giving advice to young folks, but hear me now and believe me later:

Creating friction and bad feelings at the poker table is bad for your bankroll, but that's nothing compared to what it does to your karma.

  9. I agree with the OP and I appreciate what he has said. I really hate it when someone taps the tank. But you are dealing with a game where the majority of online players are very young and they think they know everything. Just like this site, I enjoy reading it, but I post very little because of the idiotic responses from immature children that need a little attention.

Try posting a hand history from the Daily Dollar or a $4.40 180 player sit n go. You may eventually get some help but most of the replies will be berating the player for playing such low stakes or giving bad advice trying to be funny. Like why even ask a question from such a tournament. It shouldn't matter what the buy in is for the tournament. The player is asking about the ONE table they are playing in that game.

Try being mature at the poker table and here on P5's. There is a place even on P5's where you can act like a fool and get away with it. It's called OT and it's great.

No matter what it is, people are going to be rude and nasty when things don't work their way... ESPECIALLY when their money and time is involved. Anyone that can't chuckle and keep playing when someone tools off on them needs to put on their big kid panties .....and gtf over it.
Donks are going to forever play , people with bad tempers are going to forever play. They are just going to have to coexist just like any place or time in life. Does it hurt peoples feelings? .. sure ... Is it hurting the game? minimally
