I came across this book and it seemed like it provided some really good insight to professional poker thought. While i personally play much lower limits which don't really require the same type of play as in the aussie millions, this book seemed like it does a good job of showing you the type of thought processes that should be used in every decision, regardless of the limit.
Had to see what the P5's counsel thought before buying it. Good purchase? -
i havent read it. but i heard its a very very good book

considering gus hansen is awful, it's probably a pretty awful book...with that being said, i haven't read it, and dont' plan on it anytime soon

LOL, he's not awful. He donates in cash games, but that is because he is not world class and gets pwned because he exercises poor game selection.

He rocked the Aussie Millions when he won though and seemed to make very good decisions in every hand. He was definitely at the top of his game at the time and his thought process while in that state of mind would be worth money to know. -
Pretty much this. Sweet post though dude, you were not only informative; you sounded REALLY cool.

totallly disagree
-
The book is worth a read.
-
pretty sure gags is just talking out of his ass. I'd like to know how many times he's played with gus.
-
I got it at the Borders in the Vegas airport and read it on my flight back. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's definitely a good read and pretty interesting. I like the format.
-
I read it and it was very good.....and those who say gus hansen is awful, he is a very good tournament player, none of you have 3 WPT wins.
-
This is a very good read. You might be dissapointed if you are looking for a book big on strategy like a Harrington book. However it was a very interesting read and you do get some insight into Gus's mentality.
-
Isn't Gus still a winner in the cash games though? I'm not sure about that area, but definitely one of the better tournament players imo.
-
Gus is a LAG player, so to most TAG guys he seems awful, then agains so does Daniel. the book was actually very good, and i think one of the biggest concepts he covered was the small blind\ante ratio and how that effected his play. He takes chances to accumulate chips, playing alot of small ball, but be careful the reason he can do this is because of his skill\experiance, playing lag is not easy. there's a fine line between LAG\SPEW.
-
By the top players in the game Gus is not considered LAG but more of an active player who likes to see flops cheaply. There is a difference. With that said the book is a pretty good read...don't know how practical it is though.
and LOL at all you flaming Gags. -
It was a decent book. The paperback was cheap, and Gus is a pretty logical player who wrote the book in a pretty interesting/informative way.
He gets a bad rap because people consider him the fish of high stakes games. That doesn't mean he's awful. It just means he's not world-class. -
its a great book...... to break my weed up on
-
Whats the difference?
-
so b/c gus hansen cannot beat Durrr and 2-3 other HS PLO HU specialists he is a huge fish? Seriously, lol at that. Everyone that's posted in this thread so far saying gus is 'terrible' and his book will be too doesn't know what they are talking about.
-
I really like this book, it was quick, good read with some informative insight, but it also groundbreaking because it the first, and only, live complete HH. To me that is amazing. Now there will always a record a live major tourney win from start to finish, as there are for online ones. Again, groundbreaking, imo, and very tough to duplicate (unless one day they put hole-cams on EVERY table).
