Hey everyone, haven't posted here in a while as I don't really utilize the forums anymore. However I need some more opinions on this hand in this past weekend's 1k event. I don't play tournaments too often anymore, just some of the bigger buyin, big field ones like this that have a lot of value.
Here we go.
In the money. UTG is somewhat tight, haven't seem him get out of line or show down anything weak. MP is a donk with a lot of chips, older guy wearing a visor & sunglasses. He has been hit with the deck the last couple hours, gone from 15k - 100ish and is probably top 5 in chips at this point. Haven't seen him 3bet once, and has been flatting a lot of hands since he has aquired a lot of chips. He has flatted out of the bb with J2s, limp called AA, cold called 3bet shoves with AQo. He also has a bad habit of acting out of turn, and has made several comments about how he usually never has this many chips.
600/1200/100
Stacks
UTG 60k (est)
Hero 33k
MP 110k (est)
SB 40k
Preflop:
UTG opens to 2800
Hero calls with 8
8
1fold
MP calls
3 folds
SB calls
BB folds
Pot 13,300
Flop: 10
4
5
sb checks
utg thinks, checks
Hero: Bets 6k. Before I bet I looked to my left and MP was already checking out of turn, he noticed me staring at him, saw I had cards, and stopped.
MP pauses, thinks it over, calls 6k
2 folds.
Pot 25,300
Turn: 6
Hero moves all-in for 24k
Thoughts on turn shove? open to anything here.
It was tough to assign him a range when he called the flop, especially knowing he was going to check it. I thought he would go ahead and bet most strong hands as when he had something post flop he was usually betting it. I assigned him prettymuch AKs AQs/random overs deciding to peel one, 56, 67, 9T, and sometimes sets deciding to check.
Appreciate any useful insight. -
first before bad beaat

fold pre due to an UTG raiser that seems "tight" and u having less than 30 bbs. if u also had over 50 bbs like UTG, then definitely flat pre. as played, i don't mind the turn shove, u might fold out some hands...but i imagine im chking and giving up

Edited By: bluffslv Jun 16th, 2010 at 06:13 PMMy read on him at this point is that he would bet any descent ten himself on the flop. My reason for betting the flop is he was already checking out of turn. Without seeing him check I probably check the flop myself. Knowing this info what hands are you assigning him and are you still check/ giving up on the turn given his perceived weak range?Originally Posted by Gettin Daize
shove seems silly unless u really think he folds a ten which is doubtful with the read u have on him.
I know this goes past the actual hand itself which you might not care to share but what is your cutoff? Are you folding tens here? My cutoff for flatting was 88+ assuming that's wrong how tight should it be sorta deep in a big live event like this? -
Your desciption of him makes him seem pretty passive (you said he hasn't 3bet once) and he doesnt sound very creative (slowplaying a monster), so I would think he will check behind the turn unless he has a big hand.
I think I'd play it slow, check turn expecting him to check and fold if he bets. Doesnt sound like you give him credit to call flop with a plan to bluff turn so he must have it if he bets. If he called with a draw he sounds like a player who would take the free card.
Just doesn't seem like a apot to go crazy in and it sounds like he might check it down and show something like A4 or A5. -
w/ TT i would 3b/call or jam (my past actions at the table would dictate which of the two) either way ur gettin it in...99 would be a gross spot, not sure what id do with them. i dont play live events enough to answer your question fairly, but I just feel that calling with a medium pair, <30 bbs, against a rather tightish UTG raiser is not the best way to go. seems like too much guesswork is gonna ensue postflop

Based on your read of MP, and his out of turn actions, and his declaring "i've never had this many chips", not to mention wearing a stupid visor, do you think it's possible that he checked out of turn for the very reason that you would see it and assume he was very weak?
Definitely a creative move, but for all you know this guy has made millions playing the "tourist having some fun" role.....?
Just a thought...... -
This is the part im somewhat struggling with and pretty much hated life on the turn in general. I had his range so weak that I just wanted to take this pot down and not give any more cards, so I guess in general hoping for a fold, which means I'm bluffing? I'm obv not really happy if he calls, although I would expect to see a worse hand sometimes from this paticular guy. If the turn goes check check, and I check river - I can expect to be bluffed off my hand a lot. He wasn't playing fit or fold. I guess the general opinion is.. flop stab didn't work, go ahead and check fold now, which makes sense.
