he definitely gets acknowledgement for trying to win $10,000 starting at 0 via freerolls and micro games. i attempted the same stunt and after several months have grown so frustrated with bad beats that i'm thinking about going back up to higher limits. have no clue as to how ferguson plans on reaching his goal as people with no qualms with calling with K 3 off suit and OUT of position call rainbow flops like Q 7 2, turns like 6 in the hope of catching a K with a rag on the river (and inevitably catch it, killing my Q that i bet hard the entire way)
gl mr. ferguson! you're gonna need it lol -
I'd rather die than play micro limits
-
But, above, if you bet that Queen hard the whole time, most of the time they will not catch that King on you, and you make a Fortune (relatively). Remember, these are bad calls because over time, the player making them will lose money. They don't catch every time. Remember, everytime that you get that fold on your river bet, after betting all the way down, those are times they didn't catch on you.
This is definitely doable. Fergeson will need luck to do it quickly, but if he has the patience, I think it's a foregone conclusion that he'll eventually build that $0 into money. -
I just tried the $1 challenge. These people in the micros are terrible! Why don't they play with play chips. I can't even remember the bad beats anymore. They call more than AT&T. Playing the micros this way really screws my PokerOffice stats up. It frustrates me, I've asked several time if the was playing 20/40 instead of .02/.04 would they be calling the same? The majority said why not? It is these people that add the fuel to the debate is poker skill or luck. IMO poker is an art and science... the art is in the science.
I saw a commercial on ESPN the other day for full tilt. It says "if poker is luck, then why do you see the same people at the final tables." something like that. I wish the knuckle heads would go play bingo if they are going to play this way.
When I choose a table, I try to pick on with a lot of hands/hr and low average pots. It tells me people are actually playing.
In poker office I can view table trends. What is everyines opinion of playing with the table trend. i.e. call call call? -
Micro Players suck, so you lose to them? UMMM?? This concept defies logic. Kobe Brynt does not lose a game of one-on-one to William Hung b.c William sucks. Kobe Bryant just wouldn't lose that game, ever. If you fight through the beats and keep on truckin', you will rape those micro playin' mental-midgets.
Keep in mind that they don't play for money, they play for fun; act accordingly. -
Very doable - as long as you run ok at the start, and get an ok score in some sort of MTT, then play your best game within your BR.
I cashed a 500k play money freeroll for $3, won a $1.25 90 man SNG for $22, played way over my BR in cash games (ran ok - as in hands held) and got to $40. Then played cash games, within my BR (as much as possible - i.e. had to start $10NL with only 4 buy ins) (one tip if you are thinking of doing this - i found $25NL easier than $10NL - and started playing it when i had around $100, so maby take more shots early). Now play $25NL and have a BR of $1000, Thinking of moving up soon but want to have ~ 30 buyins before i take the next step.
Also - if you are able to deposit, and it is taking you several months to get started, stop trying, get a job in the time you would play and put that $ online, it is not worth the time. -
Under the O, 69, dude!!!
-
yea and if kobe gets pushed off a girl and gets the mase he doesnt quit he just gets right back on her and hits her a few times, come on man this could be done oh by the way moosdebator that was the worst analagy ever

Bad bankroll management and a bad tilt habbit left me with 4$ in my account. I refused to buy-in again. I figured it was my punishment for being so stupid. I never want to play micro again.
I am up to about 6K now. -
Nice Job! how long did it take, and how did you do it?
-
It took me about 4 months. On fulltilt, started with the 1$ turbo sngs. This field is hard to play against, nobody really bluffs, and everybody wants to see a flop. My ROI at this level was negative. At the 2$ turbo sngs, people are starting to bluff, but it's still a very tough field to play against. I was on a good run at the 2$ table, and had enough to afford a 6$ sng, I figured this was my chance so I took it. I won the 6$ tournament for a whopping 27$. I played an 8$ satellite and got my 26$ token. I had a good finish in the 26$ mtt for about 400$.. from there I was able to play my usual stakes and this time tried hard not to fall back into my old habbits.
-
For me and you it was all about that first little push. That gives you the chance to withstand some (very small) varience, if you are a winning player you will be able to build it up from there. So far it has taken me 1.5 months to get to $1k - what stakes/game do you normaly play?
-
I had a similar situation... I typically have been a lowlimit $5-$10 tourney player... usually playing outside my br, and cashing out ... after cashing out around october I had about $100 left, went on a bad run at the tourneys for the first few days after i cashed out... usually I wouldnt mind just putting some money on because I had cashed out winnings... but I had started reading about br mgmnt and thought it would be a nice challenge to really try to work it up... I was at $4.54 and I got it to $1k by december... and I didnt have any huge score either... I played the 45 man $1 tourneys on FTP they are so soft, and if you play them late at night its almost impossible to not go deep in them... worked it up to a couple hundred, started playing some $5 and wasnt as successful, but still was winning alot of them, mixed in a little bit of .10/.25 at the end... my biggest score was a $5 mtt 3rd place for like $120 otherwise i only played the 45 mans which is $17.1 and $85.5 for the $1 and $5.... havent deposited since...

this is how i started 2 bucks in a freeroll =roll on ftp led to wsop ft til i started on stars 2 bucks to 70-80k in a year

woohoo, pure unadulterated brag posts- my favorite!!!!!!
Mar. 22 i had 15$ in my account. I played some 10NL, got up to 30. Then played 25NL and got up to 50. Then played .5/1 PLO, got up to 120. Then I went to 50NL and hit a heater and was up to 300, all totaled was about 3 hrs that day. Steadily I'ved turned that 15$ into over 10k now in less than 6 weeks. (only $1400 from MTTs)
Take that Chris
PS, i love brag posting -
Comparing one on one basketball to poker is ridiculous.

reads well on paper, but really not true at all. my AA, KK, QQ and other top 10 hands have been busted today (18 X alone) by guys going over the top of my large raises with rags or low pp. and they flop sets, 2 pair, straights, etc. equating kobe's NOT losing to a william hung doesn't really fly here in the sense that kobe's game relies on his ability alone. but once someone who pushes with 2 5 os against your KK and hits 2 7 2 on the flop....well, let's just say there ain't much u can do.
