Is this okay? I'm assuming its not, although what is the diff between this and having a friend finish a tourny for you if you have an emergency? Is that okay?
-
i think its fine, i have no problem with this or having a friend take over if u have to go somewhere
just multiaccounting is where it gets bad -
As long as friend isn't playing in same trny, I see nothing wrg w it.
-
I have a very big internal problem with that.
Honestly, it's the same exact thing, even though most people feel that the latter is correct but the former is wrong.
To be 100% honest, I feel that having someone finish a tournament due to emergency (or power/internet outage) is WRONG (it's an unfair disadvantage to the other players in the game), but I cannot honestly say I wouldn't call someone to finish a tournament for me if that situation arises..
I guess it's sort of the same way that I know that breaking the law is wrong, yet I smoke weed anyway. -
ask, they are totally different situations.
but i guess im just kinda laid back when it comes to these things because i also dont mind ppl talking on AIM for strategy during hands.
its just collusion, mulitacounting, and hackers that make me upset
and i also think smoking weed is totally different that trying to cheat online poker but thats me -
If you cannot do it in a B&M Casino then I dont think it is kosher...but no one can really police it..so it is up to the person.
But I say
Sit out..lose you blinds and arrive late in Phil Helmuth style.... -
How about if you have someone, say your girlfriend, play her super tight agg game through the first 2 or 3 hours of a tournament, and then you take over at that point?
-
It is an unfair advantage. Say a player has a 100% tell on you when you are weak. He has been right all game. Then, you leave, and someone else plays for you (keep in mind, he has no idea it isn't you anymore). "You" commit the same tell, your opponent pushes, knowing you are weak. Oops, turns out your weak tell was a "strong" tell to the person who replaced you.
The rest of the table first has to recognize that it is a different player (which is tough), and then adapt and learn a whole new player.
I do not agree that it is no disadvantage to the other players. -
Well here's the thing. I feel it is wrong, yet I am not outraged that people do it. Like I said, I would probably do it if I needed to.
I was just comparing how smoking weed (like having someone else play your account) is wrong and against the law (whereas others playing your accound is against the rules), yet I (and many others) do it with no major public outcry -
B&M and online are totally different
-
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I agree with you Ask, although I sd differently before... good point. I guess it's also true that any tell he had on u is also gone, but that doesnt always equal out.
-
See, it's one of those tough situations. While I personally thikn it is wrong, I cannot say I wouldn't do it, say if I lost my internet deep in a tournament. That is why I call it an internal problem for it. Knowing I am wrong to do it, but doing it anyway, how bad is it of me? Just a very tough situation. Thankfully, I've never had to test myself, becaue I've never been unfortunate enough to be in that situation.
I think why most people find no problem with it is because it offers no real direct advantage to the player having somebody else play for them. In fact, it may be no advantage to them at all, but it doesn't have to give YOU an advantage for it to give others a disadvantage. -
I've done this several times^^^^^^ I ship my gf a couple bucks here and there, and she'll play a dollar game and then lose complete interest. In my competitive spirit I'll jump in and finish it off, leaving the other player's heads spinning. What if 4 or 5 people sat down together, using 1 account playing 1 tourney, and used all of their poker knowledge together to make the best decisions? Of course this is unethical, but is it illegal?
I of course don't support this type of behavior, but can it be stopped or prevented? I think not, one of the unfortunate stipulations that we as online poker players must "deal with".
eh my 2 cents

I have JJ's grammy play all the first levels for me

A couple months ago, i got a migraine headache on a sunday afternoon. I hadnt had one in like 3 years. There is no way i could continue. Even if i could somehow get through the horrible headache and nausea, i couldnt play with the blurred vision, impossible. I was playin 2 tourneys on 1 screen and 2 on my laptop. So i guess the constant eye movement triggered the migraine (i ordered a bigger monitor the next day). I called 2 different friends who both play for a livin, but they are cash game players, and one of em is a prick who i think tryed to lose on purpose after i looked at hand historys. i was real deep in 2 of em, and had big stacks early in other 2. my good friend got 5th in the smallest tourney i was in for $2500 (i was already in $). I still wonder what woulda haappend if i woulda finished em, maybe better maybe worse. how is there any advantage to havin someone take over in an emergency? i was at a disadvantage in this case. i just dont see how it's unethical if they werent in the tournament. someone could also argue that, even if they entered the tourney and busted out already, that that is basically the same thing and there's no advantage to that either.

i have had to leave sometimes and had someone pinch hit for me. Usually they get knocked out right away. I hate having someone else play for me. It like having another salesman talk to your clients.
I can see where it could be an unfair advatntag too. say I was not a good closer I could call a buddy who is have him finish. -
Thats actually my final table ritual. When we go to break at the final table I get ridiculously hammered, and it always helps me. They get so used to me playing a certain way that they get completly thrown off their game.
-
On a scale of 1 to 10 it's a .5 on the unethical meter.
-
So how would you feel if Phil Ivey started off an tournry for..lets says Johnny Bax?
Still the same?
Just wondering? -
Unethical. One account per player.
This is precisely the reason they don't have tag team events at the WSOP. Someone feels like they are being run over, they sub out. In a long session, fatigue is a factor so teams also provide an inherent advantage. It's impossible to police online though.
Unlike a raffle, I think you need to be present to win.
