So lately when I play poker, this Norton warning pops up saying HIGH CPU USAGE. First it was in my IDT performance (which has to do with my speakers, I think) and the last couple of times it has said it was with my Poker SQL which is to do with my PT3.
Now I am an idiot to computers so any help would do.
I have a HP Pavillian Laptop with 4 gigs of memory in which only about 10% is used with an AMD II Dual Core Processor. I would think that would leave plenty of room for processing. (I mentioned this to a buddy at best buy and he ask how much memory I had available)
This only happens recently when I have 4-6 tables playing and PT3 running with the HUD. Last time I played FTP was lagging just a touch, but annoying. Also open is Skype, 1 browser (Pocket 5)
Any one encounter this -
just played another session after doing the housekeeping and it seems to be running without the lag, maybe that was all. I have over 80k hands and have never done it.

This could help. It really helped my PC, because I play like 20 tables + HEM + tournament shark, so it was fucking up -
tracking software takes up helllllllla of your cpu...a lot of comps can't handle them

Edited By: Polar_Bears Nov 1st, 2010 at 05:50 AMYou didn't mention anything about your processor speed, but if you have 4 gigs of memory, then you probably have a descent processor. If you are an idiot with computers, then it's going to be hard to help you here on the forums. From everything you stated, there shouldn't be a problem at all! There is absolutely no reason at all why you should be running into problems with your computer playing poker from what you mentioned. I tend to think you need to look for other problems. First off, if you are going to play poker on your computer, you need to not only address, but make sure you are taking care of these things on a normal basis. I am not going to hold your hand through it all, but download this stuff and make sure it is running on a normal basis:Originally Posted by gamble153

* first off....are you running anti-virus software on your computer ALL the time? If you are going to play poker, I wouldn't run Norton....get AVG internet security software http://free.avg.com/us-en/download I personally have a licensed copy but you can run the free one.
* http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Sear...contentBody;1d is the next one I would put on my computer....the free version is fine
* http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebyte...ml?tag=mncol;1 again free version is fine
* I would also learn how to "defrag" my computer (hard drive)
Like I mentioned, I won't hold your hand, but learn how to use these utilities on a normal basis. I would venture to guess that if you take care of all these things, including defraging your hard drive, you will be fine.
Oh yea...one other thing....learn how to do maintenance on your database (holdem manager or poker tracker) which will also help a ton! I am sure if you can figure out all this stuff that I mentioned, it will alleviate some of your problems. If you really are that bad with computers, then find someome that can connect to your computer and help you with it :) -
thanks polar for all the info.
I am running Norton and I guess I will keep it for the duration of the subcription. (Norton was showing the warning, not my PC)
I did do the "Housekeeping" on PT3 and played another session and everything seemed fine.
I appreciate your help. -
OP- your issues are clearly PT3 related. You should post on their forum - they'll tell you all the stuff you should be doing. Housekeeping is one, but defragging your hard drive and some other things should be done too.
If you don't do he housekeeping at the recommended intervals your machine will croak under the weight of it. Also, check that you have upgraded recently to the latest version- it takes care of some of the housekeeping for you. -
You're welcome brother....if you have specific questions you can PM me....you have enough posts where I wouldn't mind answering some questions ;)
