1. So far everyone has been pretty conservative, 9 players still at a 25/50 level on stars turbo.. dont see that often. Board has one over plus 4 to flush. Second pair on board wins, I have 99. Advice, I think i made the correct laydown but advice would be nice.

2. You and me both. I fold top pair with an 8 kicker after two people went all in before I acted. Wouldn't ya know it, I had the best hand. I also wonder who RapidCitySD is? Since I am also from S.D.
3. Sometimes you lay down the best hand. Don't sweat it. I wouldn't have pictured my 99 was good here either.

4. determining the value of your hand is one of the hardest parts of post-flop play.
5. Definitely don't like a check/fold on that flop. What are you afraid of? AQ or JJ-AA probably reraises you, so that leaves 44, 88, TT, QJ and QK as the only likely hands at this point. Not a lot to be afraid of. I would bet/raise hard to get rid of clubs or straight draws.

I might even check-raise All-In here, hoping to get called by a desperate flush draw.
6. I totally disagree. This is a terrible situation. Its either WAY behind, such as when they have TP, and KQ/AQ/QJs are all reasonable calls for a 3BB raise early in the action, or BEST case scenario its only SLIGHTLY ahead. Flush draw and 2 overs is even money. Flush draw and one over is only slightly behind. I just like calling 99 preflop that early in tourney since its hard to proceed with middle pp after the flop unless you hit your set, look for big edges early, like when you do hit a set, or have AA-QQ, and push small edges with fold equity late. Your laydown here is fine, b/c either they have you beat, or they play so badly that the winner will donk off his chips to you in no time.
7. None of what you said advocates a check into that flop though. It doesn't make sense not to find out where you're at with a strong lead.

At least, not in my opinion. I don't play a waiting game.

You're right that QK, AQ and QJ are all reasonable hands for them to be holding (as I said myself), but that's only three hands out of a how many possible holdings?
