Hello, PocketFivers...
On 16 April 2007, a terrible tragedy occurred on the campus of Virginia Tech. People from all over the world have responded, offering their thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes to those affected.
In the week-plus since, we have seen feedback from players wishing to help, both in the forums and in emails.
This Saturday, 28 April 2007 at 3:00pm eastern U.S. time, pokerstars will host a tournament to raise money for the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund. The Fund has been established by Virginia Tech to cover expenses including, but not limited to: grief counseling, memorials, communication expenses, comfort expenses, and incidental needs of those affected by the tragedy.
You can find this tournament under the Tourney/Special tab on PokerStars, under the name Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund - $20 fundraiser. $0.01 from each entry will go toward the tournament's prize pool. The remaining $19.99 from each entry will be matched by PokerStars and then sent to the Fund. Registration is open now.
For those wishing to contribute directly to the Fund, information on doing so is available on the Virginia Tech website.
All the best,
Bryan S.
PokerStars Tournaments Administrator
P.S. As a VT alum, I would be remiss if to this post I did not add my thanks to those who have sent messages, emails, IMs, etc... offering support in general and in specific asking for PokerStars to host a tournament such as this. Our community in Blacksburg is reeling from the events of last Monday, yet we are humbled, honored, and truly touched to the core by the compassion shown by those in the wide world. Thank you.

Hi folks -
My two cents of assistance: I'll send a personally autographed copy of Winning Low Limit Hold'em to the winner. If the winner ends up getting something cooler than that, I'll give it to the first finisher who doesn't get something cooler.
Regards,
Lee Jones -
um AWESOME. thank you pokerstars and lee jones.
but reading and re-reading this sentence still has me baffled: "If the winner ends up getting something cooler than that, I'll give it to the first finisher who doesn't get something cooler." -
vn Lee, and VVVVVN PS.

A nice start time too, so us Eurodonks can get involved and show some support too.
Thanks pokerstars.
My calendar says the 27th is Friday tho???
EDIT - just re-read bryan's post and he does clearly say Sat 28th. You might want to change the thread title to avoid confusing idiots like me lol. -
Thanks, PSTARS, this is definetly appreciated

Yes, def sticky this....and now I have to find a way to get $ on stars b/c Paytru isn't working on me and I can't trade anyone on Bodog b/c they dont do p2p transactions, aaaahhh!!
Very nice of Stars to do this....I hope this tourney does well. -
Awesome!
If I had a highly successful training site, I'd give 1 month memberships to the winner.
I don't have one though,
I do have a thorobred handicapping product delivered every weekend and I'd be glad to give 1 month access to that to the winner.
Not as many people play greyhounds but I also have a handicapping service for that on weekends as well. I'd give access to that to the winner as well for 30 days.
Cheers -
Why is this not a sticky?
-
Agreed, this should be stickied. Heh, stickied.

hokie hokie hokie hi

GO HOKIES -
I just registered. It's up to 155 people. I really hope they get at least 1,000 people for this...
-
If there isnt 1000 people from this site alone signed up for this tourney it would be a complete disgrace in my opinion.

Anyone want to side bet that is actually playing the MTT?
Thinking of a $10 last longest contest with whomever is interested, winner take all, just to make this fun as well as charitable.. -
hopefully some of the educational tutoring sites offer prizes to juice up the pot also, i think that is where lee jones was heading when he said is 1st gets a cooler prize (ie pfx free subscription or free P5 bundle to any P5er that wins this.
