  1. Constructive, non-smartass comments only please, I know that's tough here but give it a try.

    The Basics
From 18-30 players per NLHE tourney, we play two a night every other Friday that count toward a quarterly point standings championship final, with starting chip amount based on standings.

Currently we have a $25 buy-in, $2500 starting chips, 15-minute levels, starting blinds of $100/100, one rebuy allowed when busted - or $1000 given for an unused rebuy thru the first 30 minutes.

Money is pulled from each tourney for the quarterly final as well as a small amount for a str8 flush JP, which we are doing away with after this quarter (first place will get an extra 100 until that stash is gone).

We give the top three quarterly point leaders a freeroll into the $25 championship final and allow only those three to rebuy if needed. There's usually about $1000 in the pot with the top three getting 50 30 and 20 percent and usually 4th to 6th place $25.

We only recentlly started the one rebuy limit from unlimited rebuys because the tourney director (Joe) felt some of the fish were spending too much.

    The problems
    - So what if some idiot wants to donk off chips with five or six rebuys? We've all done it, learn to take advantage of the weak.

    - The first tournament is taking at least three hours, and while a cash game starts up, this seems too long.

    - Why not leave the str8 flush JP? Joe already pays a place or two too many each tourney.

    - One week should feature at least one game of Omaha High, pot-limit, and/or 7-card stud just for a change of pace.

    - What is the proper way to move a player to a new table? We've always moved the third from the button, but now Joe is making them pay the big blind they were due at the next table, so we get two BBs and a SB. Doesn't make sense to me, the new player should take the seat of the busted player, as we used to do.

    - Nine- or 10-player final tables? I prefer 10 even tho we have a lot of fatties playing (on round, non-regulation tables) because you can lose too much waiting to get down to nine.

    - With just one rebuy, we should bump the starting chips to at least $3000 if not $3500 and even up the unused rebuy chip value to at least $1500.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
  2. All I know is that you were likely going to get some good advice, but then you wrote your first sentence, now you'll be lucky to get much of anything useful.

First off, just remember, it's a home game. So, whoever is running it makes the rules. If they are more comfortable with a one rebuy so no one loses too much that day, it isn't a horrible thing (especially if its mostly friends playing)

Everything else is really up to you. Though, adding chips will extend the the game longer than 3 hours, not shorten it.
  3. i dont understand..3 hours is too long, but you want more rebuys, and more chips. That could be a problem

The fairest way is to immediately stop play when tables need balancing.

If the last busted player (that created the need to balance) was sitting on the button for his last hand then the guy who you are bringing over to his seat should be the guy who just played the button on his table.

This way, his status in relation to the blinds never changes.

All the rest is purely discretionary and up to the guy running the show.
  5. 1. I hate the structure. 2500 chips and blinds start at 100/100? 15 min blinds? If the game is taking 3 hrs anyway, why not do away with rebuys altogether and start with stacks and a structure that are playable?

    2. Is there a payout at the end of every tournament or are people just playing the tournament hoping to qualify for the Quarterly Final? If there's a payout at the end of each tourney, I'd want to know exactly how much is taken from each buy-in for the straight flush jackpot and the Quarterly. Is there also a rake for the house?

    3. I like the idea of switching up games. Maybe every other week do a HORSE tourney. I'd present the idea and let the players vote.

    4. I'm not 100% sure how players are moved from table to table. As far as I know, it's all seat-dependent. Like if I'm going to be big blind next hand at Table 1and you are about to be big blind next hand at Table 2, but you bust out during the present hand, I would be moved into your seat if your table needs to be balanced. There should never be two big blinds.

    5. I prefer a 9-handed final table. Especially if there are a lot of fatties playing.
