  1. A bunch of guys from my regular game had a game on Saturday, but I didn't go because I was busy. So today I'm asking my friend how it went and he tells me the following story.

    They're about 2 hours in, 7-handed, top 4 are getting paid, $40 buy-in.

My buddy (Rob) goes heads up in a pot BvB with a new guy (not one of our regulars) to the game (Brian). Roman, the host is dealing. The stacks are about even with Rob in front by about 2,000 chips.

On a board of 2-3-9-K-Q with 1,500 in the pot (blinds only) my buddy bets out 2,000 holding K-4. Brian raises to 7,000, Rob thinks a minute and shoves for around 20,000. Brian goes into the tank because this is his tourney if he calls and loses. While he's tanking, the host says "you should think hard about this, Rob could have nothing and just be pushing on you, if you have something you should call".

Rob calls and flips over K-5 and his kicker takes down the pot.

Did Roman go too far with his advice?
  2. Yes. Nothing should be said by anyone who is not in the pot.

  3. without a doubt. imagine if dealers said things like that in the WSOP.. that'd be extremley entertaining
  4. 100% too far. I would be pissed if someone talked someone into calling me and then i lost

  5. Yes, but it's hard to throw him out of his own home game
  6. rofl, sick limp pre w/ K4o
  7. Obviously....no 'ifs' or ands' about it....

  10. General agreement I see.

Now for Part 2 of this exciting drama.

Rob says that Roman was out of line in talking so much during the hand. Roman says "that's poker, I was just saying what I would do". Rob disagrees and says he should have just kept quiet.

At this point, Brian says that had he not heard from Roman, he probably would have folded and he offers to split the whole pot and effectively make it like it never happened.

Roman said no and the game continued.

Should Roman have allowed the split?

And yes, I'm having second thoughts about playing with Roman anymore. And no, Roman and Brian do not know each other, this isn't an issue of collusion.

  11. well, it's his home game...so I think he can do whatever he wants as long as he is not blatently stealing or benefitting from his actions. Nobody HAS to play there...it's all a choice and if you don't like the way the game is played...then don't play obv.

NO it isn't.. You just pick him up and find the sliding glass window then you... well you get the point! for the record YES he was crazy out of line!
  13. cosing to most of the responses here, that comment is completely atrocious. horrifically out of bounds, no other way to put it. "you should think hard about this" alone is borderline at best so when he keeps rambling on giving blatant advice and suggesting what the other player may be doing its grounds for getting an ass kicking. if this happened at a casino im pretty sure a few people would end up getting thrown out once a brawl ensues.

  14. i think this is why its a house game. he prob had no idea he was doing something wrong and he prob wont do it anymore although thats not the point.
  15. I agree that it is out of line but it is pretty standard/common in most home games.

I think this is a fair point. What are the rules of the house in the past? Is this something normal for their games? I play a $5 game where talk not only is common, but you can pass around your hand and solicit advice (assuming no one has seen both hands).

I don't know how big a buy in $40 is to the players there. This might be more for fun than anything else.

So, I would think this is more of a home game thing than anywhere else. In a casino, wrong, at home, depends on the rules.
  17. If his name "Roman" didn't confirm enough that he was a fagbag then certainly this bullshit he spewed sealed the deal.
