Was at a home game last night (not a game amongst friends but a game run by someone) The flop comes out and there are about 4 or 5 to the flop. The first guy bets out and as he bets the guy to his left is about to call. This guy is holding his cards up a little I guess and the original bettor says to the guy about to call, "I can see your cards."
At this point the guy running the game tells the guy who had his cards seen that he has to turn both his cards face up!! I'm like wtf? I chime in and say, "You're telling me that the correct ruling for someone who doesn't protect their hand is that they have to turn their cards face up in a 5 way pot?"
So the guy turns his cards face up and has top pair Q with an 8 kicker and proceeds to fold. Surely this cannot be a correct ruling ever? He didn't even ask the guy to say what the cards were. If this were the right ruling then I could just say I saw the guy's cards next to me and then he has to turn his hand over. -
Unfortunately home games and people have their house rules. Truthfully the guy who saw them should have just had an advantage over everyone else. If a guy sees your cards and the person that sees your cards continues in the pot obviously you are beat if your cards are spotted. i say let the game continue.

Show one show all rule.. is a rule in poker. Moral of the story protect your hand from been seen.
-
that's not the show one show all rule.
-
that show one show is mainly for showdowns i thoght. if i showed my hand tosomeoen after raking in a pot. but becuase somoen saw ur cards, that is just stupid, i would refuse to do it due to the stupidity around that rule.

While I don't agree with the ruling, home games like this have some quirky nuances that you wouldn't find at a card room under decent management. That being said, if it was a juicy profitable game and they weren't my cards that were being shown; I'd do two things:
1) Protect my cards like they were my children whenever I was in a pot.
2) Keep my mouth shut so that I could profit as much as possible from these douchebags. If you have an image of not making waves in a dispute that doesn't really involve you, you are more likely to be invited back into this profitable situation. -
Sounds like someone running the game is on a powertrip. Im sure if someone saw his cards he wouldnt be showing anyone else.

Can you deliberately show your hand to the guy sitting next to you? What would happen in that situation?
Why would things be different if you do it accidently? The outcome is that same. One guy at the table knows what you have and everyone else doesnt. -
If you run a home game like it's in a casino and you decide to be a rule nazi, you won't have a home game for very long. You don't need strict rules like this amongst friends. You don't need a freakin' betting line, or to strictly enforce string bets, or to force people to leave money in the pot if they accidently call after it's been raised. Stuff like this is ridiculous in a home game. Make the newcomers feel welcome and relaxed. Even if this was the right ruling, it's the wrong one, because the donkey who can't even protect his cards let alone his investment in the game will probably never be back again.
