Got heads up in the $550 WSOP Circuit Event #2 in Indiana. Had about 790,000 in chips, opponent had like 1.74 million. 1st paid $52k plus ME seat and ring, 2nd paid $27k. Blinds were at 20,000-40,000 with 5000 ante when HU play began. Opponent offered me an extra $8k for chip chop and I give him 1st including seat and ring. I would say my opponent was relatively equal in skill. Was this a good deal or should I have played it out? Also, consider $8k is a significant amount of money to a low volume mid-stakes player like me. Took the chop for a $35k payday, pretty happy with the deal but having some regrets.

basically, ur a fool

your opponent was not equal in skill. he in fact has you crushed in skill. iamthematador/feltin'donks/deadmoney627/ joel shulruf. gittindrunk is his p5s profile. his live run as of late has been sick. and you were destined for a 2nd place score and only 27k. you made a great deal. be happy.

Not a terrible deal, but definitely not a good one. If you chopped it up like stars does with chip counts(both of you get 2nd place money and the rest is divided by chip equity), then you would've gotten $36k. If the guy wasn't a good player, then there's no way in hell I'd take this deal. If he was good, then I'd consider it if he let you sign tax forms for 2nd place money. The ring is a moot point imo and is probably only worth $300 or so. So so, but not good.

He is in fact on a good run right now so I agree w/ this.

I do only have to pay taxes on 2nd place money, IN doesn't officially allow chops, and we took that into acct when we made the deal knowing he would take a tax hit on my $8k.

not a terrible deal but if you believe you are good HU I wouldn't chop for less than half and the bracelet in the middle. If you double once or take down a sizeable pot you are 1:1 or better. Nice job though, congrats.
edit: ring -
Joel is a very good player and nice kid, but def not significantly better than me. Just because I am lower volume hobby player doesn't mean he crushes me in the skill dept. In fact, I am pretty sure that he made a few critical mistakes that I would never have made, but luckily they didn't cost him the tourney. I'm happy for him though and hope his success continues.

no way in hell i would take this deal..... u lost out on 17k differnce in prize money , 5k main event seat and imo what u want most.. the title, the ring...... u still had a great stack with 20 plus bb vs a midocre player who had u outchipped only 2 to 1.... i would of played it.... anything could have happened with that much room to play...

First of all Grip is my buddy and is obv exagerrating about the skill advantage. I thought the deal was fair because of the taxes im going to have to pay. If the taxes are about 30% (which it was if i decided to take them out before i got paid) then I have to pay over 15k taxes for a 44k score (i am taxed on 52k, not 44k) and you have to pay 8k for a 35k score. That means that im only walking away with 7k (2k in cash plus the 5k seat) more than you and i had a 2-1 chiplead going into heads up match for 25k. It would of been a good match, but once you consider the taxes we have to pay the deal sounds fair to me. Good tourney and good luck in the future!

A chop is fine but I would have left 5k or the seat in the middle with the ring after the chop.

First of all, I would like to say that I agree with you in regards to the amount of luck and variance involved with heads up play. A perfect example of this occurred about a month ago when you and I met heads up for the Bodoglife.com 20k Guaranteed Tournament just a few weeks back. You had at least a 4 to 1 chip lead against me, but I proceeded to win the Bodoglife 20k Guaranteed. On the contrary, I don't appreciate the "midocre player" comment from above. I believe it's spelled MEDIOCRE Mr. Tyven...but nice effort! I can confidently say I am better than mediocre, but at the same time I do realize that I have a long way to go before I can wear New Era fitted caps with my name etched in cursive...so cute Killa! In the meantime good luck at the tables Mr. Tyven! -
Agreed, regret is a bitch though, so I just thought I would post and try to learn for next time if I did the right thing or not. Thanks for being a good sport and breaking it down for me, your a classy guy. I think the money deal was good for me but I regret the missed opportunity for the glory of the win(+ ring) and the seat. I'll get over it though, next time I think I play it out and see what happens. Take care and best of luck in the main event, I will be rooting for you! AC
