  1. Hello,

I've recently begun playing-- I've been focusing on SNGs, mainly the 10s at party. My question is how do you improve your game?

When playing chess, I improved by reading books, analyzing masters games, deeply annotating my own games to see what I missed, and practice, practice, practice, especially against stronger players.

I also for a time played online RTS games, and the method there was somewhat the same; watch replays of excellent players, watch your own replays looking for holes, and play against good competition.

The problem is I'm having trouble translating this to improving at poker. I read, of course, but I have little idea how to analyze my hand histories for holes or bad betting. Furthermore, is it common to analyze the play of better players? Lastly, I don't see how I can play better players, as I did in the above, without going broke, or even if that would be worthwhile.

Can anyone offer any guidance, or methods that have worked for them?

    Thanks,
    Rich
  2. I played chess before poker. Never read a book or anything just went at it playing better players. Like you said poker is different, if i could do it all again I would have went to "poker school" that is pretty much it and play micro first.
  3. Are these schools reputable, and can anyone who has used one recommend them? It would be nice to have someone look over some play and comment on the most egregious mistakes...
