I like competition and money and poker is meh to me....it's just the only thing I've found so far that contains those other 2
-
I am competitive, love maths (especially statistics and probability), love multi-tasking and have ADD, so fucking love it.
The fact that I can only play about 20% as much as I would like to compounds that love even more.
OMG that sounds pathetic. -
I'm at work right now looking at Pocket Fives poker discussions (don't worry boss, I'm getting the work done too), so that must mean I love it more than my job...but I don't guess that says a whole lot...
Its like a drug, maybe meth, highly addictive you know, "I'll only try it once, I don't want to end up like that guy". But wait, I would like to end up like that guy (Gettin_Daize, Gboro, mementmori, etc...) so I guess its not like meth. Maybe its more like a nice bong rip from some fire...it leaves me dizzy wondering how that guy caught a straight to the 8 when we got all in preflop with my QQ against his A6.
It's easy for me cuase it's only a hobby at this point, so I get to love it. Its NOT a job. This game brings the balance to my life that I need after a hard day grinding through the maze of cubes...And I can easily take a week off when I start running bad, I still have a biweekly paycheck on its way if I don't play... -
Love the competition, challenge, analytical aspects but the game itself is gross so only LIKE it...
-
I hate it, but I've profited from it.

enjoy playing poker at weekly home game and at casinos, online is just a grind
-
it's better than bejeweled blitz
-
I like it quite a bit but mainly for the freedom and money it provides for me. If I won a few million in a live donkament I'd probably only play on Sundays for fun or something as I def. wouldn't be grinding like I am now.
-
It pisses me off to no end and makes me throw things constantly. However, I contine to play, so there must be some inherent love for it somewhere inside of me.
-
i love poker. its frustrating at times when ur not winning but i never woke up in the morning not excited to play. im doing it fulltime right now but want to try out a regular job for a few years and see how i like it.
-
Love it quite a bit, but still just a hobby, don't think if I had to do it day in day out to live I would still love it.
-
Used to absolutely love it back around 04 when I would get butterflies in my stomach all day before the local charity $20 tourneys. there would be a few local tourneys each week on separate days and each one of those mornings I would wake up so excited w/ anticipation. Or when I would leave college early just to goto the campus library to grind a few $5 sng's on betonusa.com or partypoker. Now it's the opposite and I can't stand the grind.
-
try cash games they are way better thats what i play. You can take tons of breaks during the course of the day and play a video game or whatever. I just play tournaments once in a while

More like an obsession but it's not a job...yet lol. No matter how bad I run one day I'm always stoked to play the next day or even after a short break.

I think about poker while at work and can't wait to get home to play. My wife gets pissed at me sometimes when she thinks I'm playing too much. I've had my ups and downs like everyone else. I just never had the feel for bankroll management before and always cashed out my winnings too soon. Now that I'm building my bankroll up again, hopefully I will be able to better supplement my income than before. That being said, I wouldn't call poker a love or an obsession...more like a dirty rotten affair that keeps me up at night.

My hat is off to those that can sit there and grind SNGs all day. I'm with a lot of the non pros in this thread, we love to play because we only get it do it 2-3 days a week and at this point it is a profitable hobby, not a job. How cool is it that we can play with some of the best in the world everyday? (Currently getting raped by Gettin Daize at a $75 6max) However I can totally see the other side of the coin where if this was your job, and you work all day long at it and by midnight you're down a few grand (or more?) I'm sure its hard to get up the next day and get at it again and I commend you guys for it.

Whenever I have a win, I usually cashout 85% of it and lose the rest. It sucks. My bankroll management is bad.

As far as the wife goes, she also plays poker and thank fuck for that.
I love poker for many reasons: it helps me analyze situations, it helps me battle against emotions and allows me to take control of them (ha that's a laugh, I go on tilt so easily). When I've played a hand perfectly, poker can make me feel like a God.
When I play bad, Poker can make me feel like a dumbass that has no clue what he's doing. I also like the fact that playing poker can you make you the type of money that you will simply not make in a average job in your lifetime.
I love Poker, for the challenges that it presents and the possibilities that it offers. -
I loved poker back when I had no clue what I was doing. I'm definitely a little jaded now, but I still have passion for what I do. I think that need for creativity is an overlooked factor in a job. Poker, at least in the beginning, was like this huge mystery to unravel. It just seemed so complex and fun to delve into. Only a few years into the journey, I am a little worn-down now. But there's just so much room for improvement that most of us here at P5's have. Even the top 10 tournament players on this site probably can delve deeper into poker, maybe by trying high stakes cash games and seeing if their skills match those guys up there. Poker may get a little stale, and in the end, we're just sitting in front of a computer clicking buttons... but it all depends on your perspective.
Right now I'm reading up on music production. I'm really interested in how music producers create songs and rhythms that people enjoy. It's such a complicated art, and even though I have no clue what I'm doing when I open FL Studio or some other sound editing program, it's still fun and interesting to me, just like poker was at the beginning. I think balancing doing the things you enjoy with your poker time is important, and if you don't do it, you'll burn out. -
When im winning i absolutely love it obv, even when im not doing so well im still usually pretty excited to play. I also love the lifestyle of it the freedom and all, not having to go work a shitty job everyday when i dont feel like it. I like that there is online poker and live poker. I always have a ton of fun playing deep in tourneys. Somedays it competely blows obviously but overall i like it quite a bit. Have also met alot of intresting cool people because of poker.
