I decided that I needed to improve my patience, so I fired up a $22 deep stack, which was originally going to be the discussion point, as to whether playing deep stack tournaments help or hurt your game and if so, how much? However, I now have been subjected to unexpected company which includes 3 of the most annoying and misbehaved kids I know, so I'm basically trying to blast KMFDM in my ears to prevent myself from tilting off my chips. I guess the discussion point now is will dealing with this help/or hurt my game in the long run? If so, how much? Finally, how do you typically deal with these situations?

blunt to the head + headphones = +EV

Find out what scares the kids the most, and use this against them.

The tournament itself is stressful enough. I do have a bit of a nitty tendency, but even I don't enjoy playing this slow. I'm only doing it because I think I've been too impatient lately, and I think (thought?) playing it would help. I think all it's doing is making me more impatient cause everyone else is mega-nitty right now, and none of my hands are getting paid off, unless I'm beat, of course. It's just frustrating.

Extra stress and outside irritations are ALWAYS going to hinder your game. Extra distractions that alter your mood and/or peace of mind hurt your game everytime. I'd just recommend not playing in these situations, try and find times you can play with peace and quiet where you can focus, unless listening to music does it for you and doesn't hurt your game. Listening to music usually zones me in more.

In my case, I tell whatever adult is responsible for bringing the kids over that I am working and they can either control the brats or reimburse me my entry fee plus a percentage. People need to understand that poker involves investing money with the intention of gaining a return greater than the investment.

People may need to, but in reality, if your not a pro, good luck getting that respect. I have an amazingly knowledgeable/understanding wife when I play, and yet, we still have some situations (this weekend, I was a bit upset going out in 8th of a large MTT, winning 10x my buy in when it could have been 100x if I won), and she couldn't understand why I wasn't elated to get that deep before losing.

So, your best thing is to try and figure out when kids are coming by, and avoid the situation. Next will be to try and get people settled down, but practice ignoring them. Just focus on the game (this can help, because if you play live, you'll have lots of noise around you from the casino, cocktail waitresses in short skirts/tops, etc all trying to distract you, this will be good practice.
