i mean like live casino games in vegas. if it's anything like the 3-6 to 10-20 games at my crappy local casino then i think i can turn pro. i've never been to vegas either so i was just curious.
-
if party poker came back and the games were like they used to be, u can make a decent living. depending on if u play 6-max or full handed, ability, etc. etc.. but say u play 2 tables of 6-max 40 hours per week, id say anywhere from 2500 to 5000 a week if u are a good player and move tables when games get bad, dont tilt, etc. etc. just dont get lazy and take off for weeks and months at a time and persue a pill-popping career and degenerate disregard for money and high stakes pool hall donation sessions and youll be good to go. thx gg

any vegas pros out there? how about alberta? i've played in some pretty juicy games in calgary before too.
-
if u play live 40 hours per week, in at least a somewhat live game, and the rake isnt killing the game too bad, u can prolly avg. 1500-3000 per week, but casinos usually rake 4 or $5 per hand, so only the best 2 or 3 players can really profit because so much money comes off the table. $150 per hour at $5 rake, so u can outrun the rake in 10-20, but barely if its 4 or $5

has anyone ever figured out their bb/100 hands live for this or any amount? thanks
-
I think scarface is assuming you are talking about no-limit. If you are playing fixed-limit then you will see about 40 hands per hour, and with rake and dealer tips you'll be lucky to beat the game unless you play 10-20 or higher. Making $15 an hour playing 10-20 FLHE live would be a very strong player, and if you play fixed-limit well you are better off playing 30-60 online than playing live anywhere.

yeah sorry i shoulda made it more clear i mean fixed limit. I'm going to vegas in a week for the wsop so i guess i'll see how it is when i get there, but i was just wondering if there's lots of drunken juicy games there likr there is in alberta. where i'm from you can't even drink at the table so obviously it's alot tighter but say you played 10-20 fl live in vegas and found lots of juicy games is $15-$20/hr reasonable after a long stretch? So if you made $15/hr x 50 hrs/wk = $750/wk right? is this reallistic? so i guess about 3-4bb/100 hands or can you get more than that?
-
More than 3 BB/100 would be impossible, you are probably looking at something around 1 bb per hour or 2 bb/100 because the rake, tips, and jackpot drop are so harsh. Try Caesar's or the Venetian, they have been very good to me for live games. The games and lack of organisation at Rio make it worthless for cash games IMO, and the Wynn wasn't awesome when I was there either. You may not find a lot of choices for 10/20 fixed-limit, most of the games are no-limit these days.
-
If you want to play fixed limit for a living then you should absolutely consider moving here to the Los Angeles area because at 10-20 limit and higher they don't rake each pot you pay a fixed amount per hour. For example, the 15-30 limit game at the Commerce Casino collects $7 per player every 30 minutes so $14 per hour. Much less then the per pot rake that some casinos charge.

Fox, why do you say playing 30/60 online as opposed to 2/4 to 10/20, are the games softer there? If so, where do I find these games? ;)

lol, seriously any limit pros out there with any advice for the kid??

no, i am 100% talking about LIMIT HOLDEM $10-$20. i played it almost exclusively for a living for over 2 years, before shifting the majority of my time into mtt's in the fall of 2005. feels too much like real work, and u get bored and burnt out pretty fast. hard to deal with the swings sober though. thats a big reason i dont play anymore, along with the fact that it is just repetitive, and doesnt really do anything for me at this particular point in my life. although, i better start making some scores in mtts, or ill have to start playing cash again.
limit holdem is dying, and most of the ppl that still play it are old school grinders. I actually started out playing SPREAD LIMIT, which for instance u can bet 1-5 pre and the flop, and like 2-10 on the turn and river, or just 1-5 the whole hand , or 1-10, etc., etc.. alot of variations u can do. I wish spread limit would come back, because there is actually more poker to it, than structured limit, such as more bluffing, implied odds, etc.
casinos and poker rooms just adapted fixed limit for the rake reasons. it speeds the game up, and basically guaruntees the vast majority of pots to get max-raked (usually $5). -
10 20 at mirage is a very soft game also 15 30 at the B is an easy game. But you cant put a price tag on how much your going to make. skill, hours vested and mental endurance all play a huge roll in your profit.

thanks guys,
i've tracked my stats and i average about $10 /hr playing 3-6 in a fairly tight game 3-6 wise i mean you can't even drink alcohol. so i don't see why $30/hr isn't out of the question for 10-20 in vegas. -
as long as the game has a few live ones in it, $30 and hour is very easy to make in a live 10-20 game .

Thanks Scarface, Who knows, if things go good in vegas, maybe i'll stay. GL in the MTTs
