Played the 20K guaranteed 5.50 buy in on stars yesterday, 30 left and really all the money is from say 1-6. Anyways I would really appreciate some inputs and thoughts here. Thanks
Blinds at 8k/16k and ante i think 2000 and I have 643,000 and get dealt pocket 99's. Now the table has been active with a lot of 2.5 raise, 3x raise and most pots won pre- flop. The UTG limps for 16k and UTG+1 who has been active (nothing maniacal, but normal,) makes it 32K, how do you play the 99's with almost 40 BB and 8 players in the table...so i have an M of 15..
I shoved the 99's hoping to pick up the 42,000 already out there and ran into AA. Not being results oriented at all, but with the 40 BB and M of 15, should i have played it by raising it to say 112K, but then what the heck to you do once he C-bets on a flop with face cards? let's say it's all rags, then do you put all your chips in.
I am just trying to figure out the optimal way to play this hand or may be what i did was the right thing and ran into a cooler.
what would you do if you had AK, JJ, QQ, 1010 here? -
Personally I fold pre...too much action behind you to shove and you have no clue of the range of your limper
-
seems to me to be a good spot to see a flop, and possibly stab at this post flop, or you will quickly find out why he just min. raised this hand, after he either smooth calls your post flop bet, or 3-bets, you will get a better idea if your hand is good or not. I think you should be able to get away from this hand post flop, regardless of a rag flop, or all face cards obv.
Another option is to 3-bet pre, to probably around 130k or so, and fold to a reshove..with hands like TT,JJ, and even QQ. I think most people would disagree with this because they look at the buy-in, and its who cares, its $5 and its automatic 'just shove'...but your fairly deepstacked and best hope is he forcing AK here..
fwiw, my strength is in SnGos, i suck in tournaments...you must have done well to get to over 600k in a stars tourney..so maybe you should be giving me advice:-}
P.S> post the H.H. next time dude
just my opinion..but fwiw..i really suck at dee -
if you reraise to 112K, the initial 32K raiser is probably getting it in preflop here..... so you are then left with a difficult decision of calling off your stack (im assuming he has you covered) or folding (after you have already put in about 20% of your stack)
it really depends on what your position is here... if you are on the button/SB/BB im probably just calling to setmine and dumping my hand if i dont hit... otherwise im folding pre....
fwiw, id prob give your position and stack sizes... would help alot -
Thanks to all those who replied, I was in SB and sorry didn't post the HH. Will do it next time. I was in the SB and thinking about it, I made a bad mistake here, I think the best course would have been to call pre flop and check fold if there are face cards, or bet and know if you are behind when he smooth calls or 3 bets me. Either way i would have lost 15-20% of my stack, but not out of the tournament,
Kinda sucked playing for 7.5 hours getting so close and then one bad decision, live and learn.
Thanks again guys, truly appreciate it. -
Thanks man, I actually play a lot of SNGs myself, but also play tournaments. night before final tabled the 11 dollar 20K guaranteed and lost to a suckout in 7th place, was hoping to have a good result in the 5.50 20K, but out so close....Thanks for your reply though. appreciate it

you..uhh...shoved 600,000 chips into a 42,000 pot? do you ever expect to be called by worst than 99? just flat and see a flop.
edit; 4 betting 99 w/ your stack after utg limp + utg1 min raise for 18% of your chips is insane. when he rejams on top of you you can't ever call, maybe you can pray for AK but I doubt it. i don't think i'm folding pre here even oop. you've got like 40bbs and it's 2 to see a flop. just set mine here. also it's hard to say if set mining is profitable vs that opponent cuz you didn't give us his stack size. but assuming he also has 600k in chips yeah it is....anyway, bottom line, there are very few reasons why a 40x jam w/ 99 (4 bet) is good. -
his stack was close to mine as well, i made a big boo-boo, I realized it as soon as I shoved, my bad (arghhhhhhhhhhhh), but what do you do there if you had say JJ or better yet QQ, do you still set mine or do you 4 bet and if re-jams, I have to pray he does not have AA or KK....
thanks for your answer, appreciate it -
big difference between 99 and QQ. if he's been tight then i flat, if he's min raising oop a lot i make it 112k and see what happens. if he jams i need a real reason to raise/fold QQ. if he flats and it comes AK2 i guess i can get away from it cheap. if it comes 459 we can still pot control or go broke. 40 bb's is starting to get somewhat deep you can lose 5bb's and be okay. if i have KK i'm going broke. also when are the blinds going up? 10 min? 1 min? makes a difference because 40bb's might not be 40bb's next hand.

bottom line imo: if you don't feel comfortable playing oop "deep" fold <QQ in this spot. QQ is marginal. KK gg, AA 1 time flush please. -
thanks, I got your point, the blinds were going to be 10K/20K in the next 3 mts so eventually the 40 BB was gonna be 30 BB. At any rate, I should have played this much different than the shove. Thanks for all you folks for helping out and good luck to everyone.
