  1. At one point in time, we all put our first ever deposit on pokerstars. I'm just wondering, how you guys and gals got your bankrolls to what they are now. Some of you have nice looking bankrolls with 6 digit numbers and some have their bankrolls in the thousands. How did it get that high? did you get lucky and win a nice tourney? or did you grind your way up until you had a nice bankroll to play the higher limits. Also, how long did it take you to get your bankroll to where it's at now?

feel free to tell any success stories.....

    thanks.
  2. be prepared for many i started with nothing and had 55k a week later stories. Ill start it, i started with nothing, after about a year and a half ive made about 10k just grinding 5-20$ tourneys. Nothing great, but im happy to be in the 10% of winning players.

  3. grinded $50 into $1K from NL 50. Then I played NL 200 where I had KQss, i reraised on the buttn, flop came QQ4, i bet pot, he called. turn K, I shove he calls with KK...back down to $800. Got so pissed went to 8/16 limit and lost it back down to $300, Cashed out $250 winnings and bought some lotto tickets won $20K and now I'm back in it baby. that's how u build the roll.
  4. I put $500 online. I have like $36 now. End of story.
  5. very good story david, however as good as it is I'm going to have to check-raise you (so to speak of course)

It all started back in 10th grade. I was 16 and I had just lost my anal V-card when I heard of online poker from a buddy of mine. I started with $50 on PP and after countless coke binges and 32 hour sessions I was up 3 buyins at .05/10. Even though I was winning I realized that something was missing in my game, so I took my new found wealth and invested in a Phil Hellmuth book (best $23.99 that I've ever spent.) Naturally I discovered the other sites and it all just took off for me after that.

To date I'm up that original $30 + $43ish on PS + 3 moneymaker posters.
  6. " I was 16, just lost my V-card" Brag post obv <---.
  7. oops, that was a typo, I will edit
  8. I actually have a very nice success story that turned into a nightmare that i'd like to talk about and it involves bankroll management. I lost pretty much all my $100 i deposited on pstars and i only had $.55 left in my account. I joined a 50 cent tourney hoping i'd make the money so i could afford a $1 SNG. I did very well and managed to get up to about $2. Then i took that and did a SNG for $1.75 and i got up to $8. Then i did a $4/180 and WON IT. I was up to $216 when i then entered a $20/180 and finished 3rd for $400 or so...So i was up to $600. Then i cash gamed it and won a huge hand with 67 of clubs when the board came 8c,5c,As I had to get all my money in on the flop with an open ended straight flush draw when the blinds were $2/$4 the 9c came on the turn and i ended up winning $300 in that one hand. So from 55 cents in 5 days i was up to $1300.... THen here comes the nightmare.....

I buy in to a cash game $5/$10 for $1,000.. very poor bankroll management and i was playing wayyyy over my head. I thought i could own the players because i was playing like a machine the past 5 days. Thats what happens when i go on a big roll, i think i can power my way through eeveryone as if i was invisible. OH how i was wrong. I ended up getting in trouble with pocket jacks over commiting my stack with the board hitting 3 under cards. The other guy had a straight and re popped me on the river for my last 300 and i knew i was beat, but i called because the pot was too big. He showed the straight obv and my heart sank like a rock at the bottom of the ocean. I felt de-moralized as if i had just done something terrible. My hard work and determination was gone in 1 hand. Since then my bankroll has suffered and i regret the poor BR management. BUT i learned my lesson, and i follow proper BR management now. It was a hard pill to swallow.

Anyways back to the point. back in December i won a $15 tournament for $3,500 and i believe I cashed out too much. I cashed out $3,300 leaving me only $200 left. and of course i went broke, Do you think i should have left my account with $3,500 and grind for more? or do you think the cash out was right? I keep telling my friends, i could have had $10,000 in my cashier by now, but they keep saying i would have lost it all if i had't of cashed out.

Anyways, I appreciate your comments and posts. lets keep it up!

  18. my story:

started with a nodeposit of $75 in party poker 8 months ago, played limit for a month until one night in september, with $70 left, made 2 fts in a $1 and 500PP MTTs, ended up with $400.

donked some in sng at stars until end of year, changed to ftp, left some on stars to play mtts, built to $600 until march, made a 3rd place in $3 donkament for $300, then a 2nd in a 4.40 180 man, had like, $1000 by beginning of april, joined PXF, won $4000 in april, and here i am, breaking even this month.

so deposited $0, have now $5k using proper BR management, and im trying to build it more, only cashed out like $200 or so.

that is my short exp so far.
  19. About a year ago I was playing on a $1000 roll (playing underolled). Had Aces, Kings and just about everything cracked in a brutal session. Went on massive tilt and took $5 to a satellite for the $150,000 on Paradise. Destroyed the satellite and then took 3rd in the the tourney for about $16,000. Have maintained a solid 5 figure roll ever since.

  21. Very great article. Im inspired.
  22. My bankroll is were it is today due to tilting on cash games after a couple cocktails. nuff said

  23. i deposited $600.00 on poker stars and started playing 30 & 50 dollar sngs then started trying mtts i won a 55 dollar entry fee 186 man tourney for 2100.00 and final tabled another a week later and now breaking about even to keep it at 2400.00
  24. Maxed out 2 play money accounts (23 mil each) at pokerroom.com, sold all the play money for $10 per million. That gave me nearly $500. Created new accounts (one in my name and one in my wifes name) at all the sites for which Pokersourceonline was an affiliate. Cashed all my promotional points for gift certificates to the sites and 1 nice chipset. After a lot of bonus whoring, gift certificate money, and money won in the cash games while completing the promotions, I had a nice roll nearing $10,000. I cashed out more than half of this to buy a few things and continued to play low NL cash games that I had learned well enough to be consistently profitable.

After a little more than a year of cash games, I had cashed out and built my roll to more than I ever thought was possible online (for me). Then, when the sites starting closing their doors to Americans last year, I started worrying how secure my money was. So I withdrew all my money leaving only $1000 at each site I still played most stars, FT, Bodog, Doyles, & UB. I left only $300 at the each of the other sites I played rarely Absolute, P4E, Poker.com.

My plan is to try to rebuild back to where I was. Although the games have gotten tougher and its a slow climb, they are still profitable and Im slowly working my way back. Ive always practiced bankroll management to the extreme, so dropping back to micro limits has caused me to become burned out somewhat on cash games. Ive recently been giving tournies a try with some moderate success but I find myself gong back to cash games more and more.
  25. after about nine or ten $100 deposits I won a $33 freeze on stars for $2300. Started following strict roll management and have been grinding off that ever since.
  26. started with a 100 dollars on FTP on january 15 grinded it uot in the 45 man 10 dollar sitngos built it up to a 1000 and had a couple of final tabel scores in the 26 dollar buy ins and now im just over 5k not bad..
  27. Started a few years back depositing $50 on PP,,,built that up to $300 playing sng's. Then quit playing for a while and then transfered all of the money over to FTP. Had about $1800 built up and then decided to take a week off and go visit my parents and of course while i was gone my wife(now ex) decided she needed some "walking around money" to help her get by while my lawyer figured out how much the divorce was going to cost me so she transfered my poker money to my checking account and being the nice guy i am i left 2 signed checks with her, just in case of an emergency. Got home a few days later to find my FTP account cleaned out(all but .55) and a note on the kitchen table that read,,,"I will be at my mothers and my attorney will be in touch"

    ty and good night now
  28. 12-18 deposits of $100 a piece over the course of about 18months. Lost it in a variety of ways. Bought PXF in early dec of last year. Won the 30k gtd on bodog jan1 of this year for 8k. Cashed out 6k. Took it easy for a couple of months, ran it down to about 1k and won the 5r on stars a couple weeks back for 6300. My role is now at about 7500 hoping to move up at rapid fire pace.

We see this happen all the time with new PXF subscribers. You have enough bankroll to move up to higher buyin tournaments now but take it slow. Don't jump too far at once. Don't be too concerned about breaking even for a few weeks. Also, try uploading your hand histories into the PXF Hand History Analyzer and review them in detail. Review your stats (especially your action preflop) and track your M using the graphs. It's a great way to find leaks. Great job and good luck!
